OOooh, new tracker thread.... well, I guess not that new, it's already 18 pages long, but still...
At some point [when open] I'll upgrade Peri and Kurono. :)

Are forms for the Aquatic Tracker still open...? :3

Tracker Dog Application Series 1
Username:
Satamoru

Tracker Dog you want:
3

Name you'll give it:
Current

Reason why you want it:
Because I've been obsessed with mermaid/siren/deep water creatures for years now. When I first saw there was Aquatic Trackers, I thought it'd be perfect if my first Tracker was one; imagine my surprise when I finished reading through the front page and discovered one up for adoption; and a beautiful one at that.

Will it be used in any kind of story?
Most definitely; I think she'll fit right into my 'Siren' universe. I have two other mermaid-type characters, whom I've built a very intricate world around and which I eventually intend to archive on the forums - Current, I'm sure, would fit into this world wonderfully

Describe its personality:
Current is a playful, slightly coy tracker. When it comes to her job as treasure-hunter, she takes it very seriously and focuses on nothing but aiding her diver in locating their objective. However, when "off the clock" as it were, Current becomes a bit of a troublemaker, pulling harmless pranks and causing light-hearted mischief among her fellow sea-creatures. She has a habit of 'playing with her food', catching fish and releasing them only to chase them down again. Generally she's seen as a nuisance, but all her play is good-natured, and she's always careful to keep it light and harmless.

The only times Current ever bares her teeth is when someone messes with her diver; in such cases she becomes all about business, and wastes no time in punishing anyone who attempts to harm her diver - whether verbally or physically. Though usually open to making new friends of her fellow beast, Current is extremely suspicious of humans, as she prefers to assume they may be a threat to her diver until proven otherwise.

Write an introduction for your Tracker:
Ah - treasure hunter, eh? I've seen plenty of you round these parts." The man's lazy drawl caused the hairs on the back of my neck to stand on end. Truthfully there wasn't anything overly unpleasant about his voice or his posture, but there was a slight gleam in his eyes that spoke of a perversion that threatened to make my lip curl. Instead I smiled, a tight smile but a smile nonetheless, and gave a nod I hoped didn't look to suspiciously stiff.

"Well, this island is pretty well known for its underwater ruins...I suspected I wouldn't be the first to come, and I suspect I won't be the last either." My reply came out a tad cooler then originally intended, but the arrogance in his eyes must have sunk deeper then first suspected because he didn't seem to notice.

"I suspect so." He eyed me cockily from behind his counter, hands absently scrubbing the dirty lenses of a pair of goggles with an equally dirty cloth; and I couldn't help but wonder if the goggles had originally been dirty, or if his 'washing' had made them that way. "So, I 'spose you want to rent the set then?" He seemed to finally reach the conclusion that I was in his diving shop for a reason, stuffing the dirty rag into the collar of his shirt and raising from his stool.

I considered several ways of answering that question; 'yes' was to blunt, 'so that pretty head of yours DOES have more then just lint filling it' might offend, and 'no, I'm here to examine your floor tilings' may be too sarcastic for him to comprehend. I decided to go with a simple nod, as that seemed to be the less offensive answer. No conversation passed between us for several moments as the man scuffled about; gathering a wet suit, a pair of flippers, goggles - clean ones, thankfully - and an oxygen tank. Then he dropped them rather unceremoniously on the front counter, leering at me in a way that very much made me want to smack him over the head with my purse.

Oblivious to my desires of inflicting cranial damage to him, the man shuffled back into place behind the counter. "That'll be a $60 rental charge - bring everything back in one piece, get half back." He drawled with that smirk still present on his filthy face; I barely quelled the urge to force feed him the rag now sliding out of his shirt.

Grimacing, I reached into my wallet, withdrew the money, and made the trade; my cash for his diving equipment.

"Be careful!" The man's sneering voice called after me as I exited his run-down diving shop. "I've heard tales of a sea beast round these parts - bright, glowing blue eyes; it'll gobble a pretty young thing like you up in one bite!"

I didn't even justify him with a sarcastic snark.

------------------

An hour beneath the waves had my patience and my oxygen running low; sixty minutes and the shiniest thing I had found was a school of particularly slow-witted fish. Though frustrated, the rumors bubbling inside my mind of countless gems lying beneath the surface of the bay held me fast, and I merely gave a thrust of my feet and sank deeper into its depths.

Something glimmered - my heart skipped a beat and I gave a sharp twist of my body, angling towards the sudden light. However, the closer I got, the more apparent it became that it wasn't any sort of hidden treasure - it was much too bright. Mildly wary now I slowed my progression. Angler fish, perhaps? Certainly not...I wasn't that deep. Maybe....?

I've heard tales of a sea beast round these parts - bright, glowing blue eyes...

After a moment longer floating in my hesitation I gave a shake of my head and continued my progress towards the glow.

If nothing else, I figured, it might be the flashlight of another diver. It would be nice to have some company in this otherwise boring treasure hunt. Yes, actually, meeting another diver would be very....nice....

I'll admit, my brain fuzzed out a tad when I rounded the corner of a reef and found myself gazing into the bright, glowing blue eyes of the most beautiful tracker I had ever laid eyes upon. Okay, scratch that; the only tracker I had ever laid eyes upon.

The majestic beast hovered in the water before me, hopelessly tangled within the confines of what was once a very well-crafted fishing net; it was quite faded and tattered by now, though whether it was time or the enraged tracker that ravaged it I could not say. Either way the net, though shredded, held well enough to keep the poor creature trapped. It was clear the tracker had fought hard and well to free itself, but it was just as plain that it was completely worn, doing little more then growl weakly in it's throat and stare at me with bright, distrustful eyes.

I was frozen; torn between fear and pity. On one hand, I had little to no doubts this beast, if granted freedom, was more then capable of tearing me to shreds had it the desire. On the other, to see such a glorious creature held captive in the world it ruled raised a bitter sorrow in me that was impossible to ignore.

We contemplated each other for what seemed like hours, but which surely must have been mere minutes else my oxygen would have run out; then the tracker's lids closed, extinguishing the bright blue glow of it's eyes which had drawn me here. That was all I needed to make a decision.

With a sharp kick of my legs I propelled myself towards the net and the tracker; the latter of which didn't even stir at my approach. Reaching into my suit I withdrew the knife I often carried for the purpose of fending off possible predators I may meet in the ocean's depths, and began making quick work of hacking away at the ropes knotting the net together.

The net was old, and my knife sharp. Within mere minutes the net gave beneath my swift strokes, releasing its captive with several loud snaps as the string holding it together unwound and separated; and suddenly the tracker was free.

It seemed just as surprised by this sudden occurrence as I; we both remained frozen for several seconds, blue eyes blinking ins-inc with brown. Then the blue lanterns flickered upwards to meet my brown, the tracker slowly tilting its head to the side as if to question why I had saved it.

As I was underwater and wearing a gas mask as life support, I wasn't able to vocalize an explanation; besides, I wasn't sure if it would understand me even if I could. Instead I just stored my knife in its rightful place and gave a small shrug of my shoulder - the tracker merely tilted its head to the other side, considering me carefully.

I gave another shrug, a small wave, then with a flip of my fins I spun myself upwards and began to make my way back to the surface; as much as I longed to stay and examine the tracker further, my life beneath the water was limited, and my oxygen was surely running low.

Breaking the surface of the bay I paddled my way over to the shore, climbed onto the sandy beach, and released a great cry of surprise into my mask when I turned to find the tracker now standing on the sand behind me.

"What on earth are you-!?" I gasped as I ripped the mask from my face, glancing up and down the shoreline to see if anyone else was witnessing this; the beach was empty. Blinking in bewilderment I returned my attention to the tracker, which was now observing me with an almost quizzical expression, as if trying to puzzle out the reason for my shouting. "I...What are you doing up here? Get back to the ocean!" I gave a "shoo" gesture with my hands.

The tracker took a few steps back as if alarmed, its expression clearly stating its worry for my health. "Go on! Before someone see's you!" I exclaimed, making a run at it in hopes of chasing it back to the waves it had emerged from. Instead the tracker merely danced away ahead of me, and its eyes suddenly seemed to glow with a new enthusiasm. "I'm not playing with you! Stop playing with me! Get back into the ocean you blasted-!"

It took almost half an hour before I realized I had just spent half an hour chasing a tracker up and down the shore. And the blasted thing was laughing at me.

"Fine then! I give up!" With a frustrated huff I flung myself down onto the sand, sprawling out on the beach and pressing a hand to my forehead. "But if anyone see's you and decides to take you home, don't blame me, got it!? Your own fault!" Closing my eyes I sighed; the chase had dried me, so the now setting sun didn't cool me as much as it normally would. I knew I'd have to return to the tacky diving shop soon to return my equipment for the deposit.

A soft shuffling sound drew my attention; warily I cracked open one tired eye, and found myself once again staring into glowing blue eyes. "Oh what do you want?" I grumbled; the tracker responded in the form of a cold, wet nose against my cheek. "Oi, stop that." I pushed against it's snout with no real strength behind the act; it seemed to recognize my actions were unenforced because it merely lowered itself into the sand beside me, curled up nice and cozy against my side, and rested it's large head on my stomach.

She - a female, I realized now from this new close up of the tracker - released a content sort of sigh and closed her eyes, seemingly quite content to lie beside me on the rapidly cooling sand.

Slowly I reached up to rest my hand on top her head; her finned tail gave a loud thump of approval and with a small smile, I began to gently scratch the wet fur behind one long, thin ear and closed my eyes.

Somehow, I couldn't see her gobbling me up in one bite.

I grinned.
