Uncommon • Sharp Class
Generally peaceful and independent dragons, Timberjacks are characterized by their
huge wings. In addition to their size, Timberjack wings are razor sharp, and are their
main defense mechanism. They are also fiercely protective of their riders.

Rider; laredo
Name; Thunderbeast
Gender; male
Species; Timberjack
Taming Entry;
Since a storm and heavy wind and rain was coming in today, I woke before the sun rose and decided to go get Legend, my behemoth Raincutter, and take him for an early morning fly. I knew that he could handle flying in the rain, but the wind worried me because of his size! (poor fat boy, haha.) I jumped on and we took off through the dense morning dew. Once we got through the cloud bank there it was, The most spectacular sunrise I had seen in a long time since winter had dulled the skies and turned everything cold. As we flew around and into the white puffs of clouds I heard the flap of wings behind us and turned to see nothing but the sky turning dark with storm clouds. I looked down at Legend and he had his eyes narrowed with anticipation and worry of another dragon being near. "Easy boy, it's just the storm" I said trying to be reassuring but he wasn't convinced. We were being followed and he knew it! Legend took off and headed back towards the village when I heard the noise again. Then came the storm. Legend was fine flying in the rage of the storm but the wind hit me hard and took the breathe out of me. It picked up out of my saddle and whipped me around. I saw Legend trying frantically to rescue me and then I looked up and saw this strange blur of a silhouette in the lightning. It was another dragon! A long slender dragon was plummeting down towards me, It was a timberjack! He kept his wings folded in as to speed up and as soon as his head was beside me, he looked at me. He stared into my eyes and I looked deep into his blue eyes. He was scared for me. He looked away from me and looked down to the ground where I would fall to my death. He pulled his wings in as tight as he could and sped up just enough to put his cool scaly body against me. I was scared of what this big timberjack would do but I did not want to die so I wrapped my arms around his little frame and held on tight.

Image

He felt me grab a hold and spread his giant wings to stop us from falling! The pressure of the wind over the back-side of his wings was so heavy I couldn't let go of the Timberjack if I tried! Once we slowed and he started gliding away from the storm, he looked down the belly-side of his neck to me and gave a shrilling yowl that sounded almost happy! He gently rolled over to where he was now flying correctly and I was hanging down from his neck. I watched Legend come out of the black clouds in the distance and narrow his eyes at the fact I was dangling off another dragon. I laughed and the Timberjack started a downward decent until we had come to a small ridge in the ocean where both dragons could land. The Timberjack landed so easily and held his body up away from the ground on the small limbs in his wings so I wouldn't get hit as he sat us down. Legend landed with a thud and started screaming and growling at the Timberjack who lowered his body to the ground behind me, almost like he was sorry. Legend stopped growling and grabbed me and tried to take off. "Wait!! he saved me!" I yelled at him as I ran to the Timberjack. He looked at me with sad longing eyes so I reached my hand up to his nose and he came down to meet me. It was pure joy!! I had found a Timberjack! Well he found and saved me. "Do you want to come with me?" I asked as I rubbed his horns. He put his entire head against me and let out a warm sigh. "Well then.. You will have to have a name. hmm how about Lightning-catcher?" He shook his head in disappointment. "Okay, Stormrage?" I asked and he stuck his tongue out at me and gave a little hiss. "Fine! then what!?" I yelled frustrated. I should have know he would be a picky dragon. He pushed off the ground in one big swoop and his wings made a large cracking boom that sounded just like thunder. "Got it!!" I screamed as he came back down. "You're Thunderbeast!" He brought his head down to my level and with a dragonish grin, shook his head up and down so that his head and neck were doing the wave motion. "Okay then Thunderbeast, lets all go home." I jumped on legend and we took off back home.

Rider; Caffara Ovalle
Name; Archer
Gender; male
Species; timberjack
Taming Entry; (edited w/ new word count rule)
The hunt was on! I’d seen a wayward Timberjack flying unsteadily towards the mountains last night while I was cleaning up the barn, and I fully intended to find and capture it as soon as possible. I love Timberjacks, personally; when I was younger, one was shipped from Berk to my homeland as a sort of experiment, to see whether dragons would survive outside of the hospitality of the archipelago. He was a magnificent creature, steel grey and shimmering in the sun; I remember being fascinated watching him stride off of the boat. Unfortunately, due to less-than-desirable shipping conditions, the poor thing sickened with pneumonia and died within days, and since he was so expensive in the first place the dragon trade between my home and Berk ceased. I’d always wanted to find another Timberjack, though, and now I might have a chance!
I’d been training Ink under a borrowed saddle and bridle, and figured he’d be ready for this expedition. After all, we were just going to fly to the mountains, and then I’d tie him and scout around on foot. I didn’t want to approach the creature with another dragon; knowing that Timberjacks could be shy, I didn’t want to scare him off.
Ink seemed to sense my excitement as I tacked him up; he wiggled and jigged in the ties, chittering happily. I chuckled and gave him a pat before boosting myself up. The saddle (borrowed from a kind neighbor) felt electrifying; my bag was packed full with everything I could possibly need; my dragon was full of energy; we were ready.
The flight went by much faster than I expected; I don’t give my Nadder enough credit for being fast. Soon enough he was lowering us down into the crags, allowing me to scan for any signs of the giant-winged beast I was in search of. At first, I saw nothing; the tracks of a Changewing, a few leftover barbs from a Nadder fight, even some residual amber from a Death Song. Now I started to worry; what if the beast was hurt? What if it’d dug himself into a cave? What if it’d died? What if it wasn’t even here? What if it wasn’t a Timberjack at all?
There, down below - the displaced dirt signature of a creature with a huge wingspan! It could be just a Monstrous Nightmare, I reminded myself, or a Typhoomerang. My heart pounded, though. Even Ink seemed to shake with excitement as I guided him down to earth. I slid off his back softly, glancing around. We stood in a small clearing, a small path threading through a few boulders just out of sight. The dirt here had clearly been disturbed by the beating of massive wings; something had been here, and evidently not long ago.
I turned to Ink then, laying a hand on his nose and using the other to take his reins.
“You’ve gotta stay here, buddy. I’m going in alone,” I said, winding the reins around the stalk of a scrubby tree. I knew that if he wanted to escape he would; it was more of a symbol to him, telling him that he was supposed to stay right here. Ink chittered nervously before trustingly pushing his nose into my hand.
Picking my way over the path, I kept a sharp eye out for any crevice or cave a dragon could’ve crawled into. Not too far down the path was a small opening, a black pit easily big enough to accommodate a sizable dragon. I drew out my shield and strode forward, peering down into the darkness to see if I could catch the glint of a large eye.
Finally, I lowered myself in, slowly and ever-so-carefully. Every one of my movements was hackneyed and at half-speed. I turned gently, striding forward and straining to see into the corners of the cave.
I can’t describe to you the glory of the creature in front of me. He was sitting, wings folded neatly at his chest, almost as though he’d been waiting for me. Tall, lanky, and gorgeous, the creature was splashed in white, wings shimmering blue with decorative gold-and-white patterning on the delicate, fluttering edges. His long snout hung still in the stuffy cave air, seeming too regal for such a dark, dank place.
We stared at each other for what seemed like hours, calculating our next moves. I kept my eyes firmly on his as I reached for my bag, agonizingly slow. In the most delicate fashion I could manage, I pulled a large hunk of ham out and placed it in front of me, pushing it towards him encouragingly. I would not lose this dragon.
He leaned down to take it gently in his jaws, and only then did I hear the wheeze. This dragon was sick; he’d come here to heal. Nervously, I began to approach him, directing my eyes to my feet to seem non-threatening, a rope hanging limply at my side. He didn’t make any movement, seeming wary but not afraid.
“Hey, bud,” I murmured, carefully lifting a hand and stretching it out into the heavy air.
“Want to come home with me?”
The seconds ticked by, my hope falling with each one. C’mon, I thought, be brave for me.
A gentle nose pressed into my palm.
Of course, I couldn’t take him home tonight, not with his condition. As a result, I broug Ink to the cave’s mouth and tied him at the entrance so as to keep him from falling ill. After erecting a small pile of brush for a fire, I brought a sizable stick out to see if I could made my Nadder useful.
“...flame?” I asked dumbly, holding the wood out for him. He stared at me curiously. I realized he’d have to be angry in order to give me what I wanted.
Tap! Tap! Tap! I began to hit him lightly on the nose, hoping the irritating sensation would be enough to annoy him into striking. I saw the blue color rising in his mouth and braced myself, holding the stick out far to my side.
Wham! A massive magnesium blast slammed into the rocks high above my head. I looked up at the impact sight before looking back at the blue boy, a little dumbfounded.
“What...what was that?”
Sighing, I went inside, dropping the stick with a measure of defeat into the pile. Turning, I stripped off my jacket, shuddering at the cold but realizing I’d get sick myself with how sweaty I was getting.
Whoosh!
Whipping around, I was fully shocked to see the woodpile burning steadily. The Timberjack sat there curiously, looking at me for approval. I sat down, awed.
“Smart, boy, huh?”
After that, the night went by fairly easily. I cooked some food for myself and fed both dragons generously. When I came back after saying goodnight to Ink, I found the Timberjack sleeping peacefully by the fire, stretched out comfortably. I stood in front of him, examining him in the light to try and find a proper name. The spots on his wings looked like little island in the middle of a sea, an archipelago, if you will. Archie didn’t seem right...Archer?
I tested the name, calling to him softly. He lifted his head, gorgeous eyes studying me. I saw a glint of approval before he laid his head down again, contented and calm. Never once had he seemed afraid of me.
Archer, like an arrow, regal and gallant. It was perfect.
By morning I knew my supplies wouldn’t last any longer. We had to go home. I fed both dragons and ate a quick meal of dry biscuits before walking out of the cave, luring Archer with scraps of meat. Nervously, I tacked up Ink once more, wondering if Archer would follow us.
My worries were put to rest as soon as we took to the sky. Even with his cough and wheeze, the Timberjack followed us at a steady pace. I threw scraps back to him as encouragement. Occasionally he would fall behind, but he always caught up, eagerly watching my pocket for another treat. Ink didn’t seem to mind at all, simply flying straight and true. I must say, I was proud of him; not once had he acted out the entire trip!
As we began our descent, I watched Archer to make sure he landed safely. He looked alright, if not a little distracted. However, right as Ink’s feet hit the ground, he turned sharply, shot upwards, and fled.
I didn’t move for several seconds, wondering if my eyes had deceived me. After all that work, had Archer really gone? It stung even worse than the losses of other dragons; my own childhood dream had turned tail and run right before my very eyes.
I untacked Ink solemnly, knowing my bad mood confused him. He probably wondered how I could be so down after such a great adventure. I made sure to pet him and give him plentiful food before I put him away; he had done nothing wrong.
I lumbered back to the house, wanting nothing more than to just sleep it off. I was about to do just that when I heard a heavy sound behind me. The dirt under my feet stirred.
I turned around and there he was; Archer, in his massive glory. He looked somewhat sheepish but very grateful when I offered him a treat. I pinched myself, admittedly, unsure if this was really true.
“You came back,” I whispered. He grunted a low sound, pushing his nose into me eagerly. Maybe because I came to him in a time of weakness, maybe because I had food, maybe because he just liked me, the Timberjack had returned.
“Good boy,” I praised, rubbing his head thoroughly. I don’t know what kind of dragon he’ll turn out to be, but something tells me it’s going to be quite an adventure.

Rider; fallendragon
Name; drake
Gender; male
Species; timberjack
Taming Entry; oh man that had hurt. a terrible terror had stolen my map of the forest and set it in a tree. when i had went up to get it, i fell out of the tree. i got the map though. but now i am covered in pine needles and mud. i looked at my map again, i find that its useless. im lost, im covered in mud and itchy pine needles, and my basket of fish only has one fish left. i really never should be the one put in charge of fishing. then i feel the basket on my back being opened. make that one fish now. i turn to fight for the fish from any terrible terror that's been following me, only to find a timberjack munching down my fish. "oh..." im to scared to move. the timber jack bends down and sniffs my face. i close my eyes and wait for any burns or bites. but none come. i feel something licking me, and i open my eyes to find the dragon searching me for any more fish. when he found none, he rose up as if to fly off. that's when i got a good look at him. most of his body was white, but along his spine was dark grey. his head was grey, too. he had bright blue eyes, and his wings were blue and dark grey, with white and yellow spots. he looked at me one more time before taking off.

it had been three days since i saw that dragon. now i was once again sent to fish. this time the terrors only took some of my catch. by the time it was dark, i had half a basket left. then as i was walking home, a tree almost fell on me. i looked up to see that timberjack trying to rub his back against trees. he seemed to be trying to scratch an itch, but all the trees kept falling over. then the dragon saw me and roared. before i even knew what i was doing, i threw a fish at him. he bent down to eat it. i climbed up his wing and started scratching where he had been trying to itch. after a second he realized i was there. but instead of trying to kill me, made a purring noise. i threw another fish at his face, and he happily ate it. after a minute of fish and scratching, he rose up. i had to hang on to his neck so not to fall off. then he started flying and wow, was the view great! then i realized we were more that a hundred feet off the ground. i crawled up to just behind his head and hung on to his horns. "Hey um... drake? can i call you that? ya drake can we land?" he tilted his head towards me as i talked. when i finished talking he just kept flying. he probably didn't understand me. "umm... down?" i pointed toward the ground. he looked at me again, then followed my finger. but for some reason we went higher. "Oh, ya okay. this is fine." i didn't bother trying to ask for landing anymore. then i looked up and saw the moon looked so big when we were up here. bunch of night terrors flew opposite to us, nd i looked down. we were right above berk. "Now can we go down please?" i tried again, pointing once more to the ground. this time he seemed to follow what i was saying and went in for a landing. when we landed on the beach of berk, i got of drake and gave him another fish. he ate it as i started heading home. then i heard footsteps behind me and tirned see drake following me. "Oh dear..."

after a week of training, i was able to teach drake to roll over by showing him myself. apparently he likes to copy things. to teach him to shoot fire on command, i threw a torch at a target and shouted 'fire'. so far that's all drake has learned. he became my first dragon. who new what a few fish and a back scratch could lead to?

Rider; Asdis Asketill
Name; Knight
Gender; Male
Species; Timberjack
Taming Entry; Kneeling in the woods, I examine my boot and scold myself for my carelessness. I'd been going along by myself in the woods, and it had begun to rain. Naturally, I managed to seek shelter in a cave by the forest. Except, I wasn't along in the cave. There was an angry Typhoomerang there, and it shot it's awesome - but hot and painful - fire at me. It managed to burn my leg, and I fled out into the rain. That might be helping my leg, but I think it just makes the burn even worse.

Once I fell, I knew there was no chance of me getting back up. Not yet, anyways. The fire had managed to go all the way through my boot and burn the skin, and I don't dare find out how bad it is yet on my leg. I don't want to puke when I see how bad it is. So, instead, I lean against a tree, and glance upwards. The good news is that the Typhoomerang didn't follow me. The bad news is that night fall is swiftly approaching. Being out in the woods at night when I'm pretty much defenseless - minus the daggers I have, but I only have three and I don't trust my aim at the moment - isn't all that appealing. Not that I really have a choice.

I curl up a bit, sighing as I do. I'll just have to hope that I'm not attacked by any dragons while I'm out here in this state. Leaning against this tree isn't very comfortable though, so I end up just curling up on the ground. Not that that's much better.

When I wake up, I find myself surrounded by...wings? It takes me a moment to remember why I'm not in my house, but I'm startled by what these wings belong to. As I start to move, the wings pull away, revealing the sun and clear skies. The rain is gone! That's not the only thing it reveals though. A beautiful Timberjack leans back on its tail, tilting its head and staring down at me. I'm so surprised that I can't even do anything but gape. I've been told before that Timberjacks were quite nice if you didn't anger them. But I didn't know that they came up and sheltered people.

"H-Hey." A little nervous, I push myself a bit closer.

It doesn't move, as if it's still examining me. I think hard on what I know about Timberjacks. They like eels. I remember that. Reaching into my satchel, I pull the eel I caught the other day out. I'd been saving it in case I had to try and ward a dragon off - I should've used it with the Typhoomerang - but I could try and give it to this Timberjack instead.

"Here you go, boy." I toss it towards him, unsure if he would want me to get closer or not.

He scoops it out of the air quite fast, and I laugh a little. He seems to eat it quickly, and then watches as I try to climb to my feet. That doesn't work the way I would hope though, because I fall over. Groaning a bit in pain, I glance upwards only to see the Timberjack's head is right there.

"Hey? What are you doi-" I let out a gasp in shock as he grabs me by my shirt and hoists me into the air.

In fact, he tosses me into the air. I scream, shutting my eyes in fear, but before I can feel myself plummeting back towards the ground, I feel something catch me and begin to pull me. I open my eyes, and gasp when I find that the Timberjack caught me on its back. Quickly, I hug its neck, afraid to slide off as it flies me out of the woods. It actually brings me pretty close to the village, and it surprises me considering the fact that wild dragons don't normally come too close to the village. When it lands, I dismount a bit painfully, but before I do, I scratch the dragon's back a little.

"I guess you're going to be going back now, hm?" I say it a bit sadly. I barely even know this dragon, and yet I feel like I know him quite well. He protected me, and helped me get home. A knight in shining armor saving a damsel in distress. Quite the cliche.

He tilts his head, staying on his wings. Sighing, I turn to go, but I'm quickly pulled back by the Timberjack again.

"Are you trying to tell me something, boy?" I raise an eyebrow and smile a little.

Slowly, I extend a hand, and the Timberjack touches his nose against it. I smile even wider, and hug his neck a bit awkwardly. I'm not sure if that's even something he'd be okay with, but I do it instinctively. He let's me though, and when I let go, I decide that he needs a name.

"A knight in shining armor..." I whisper, thinking back to my original thought on him. I then giggle a little. I'd already discovered a name for him. "Knight?"

The Timberjack moves back a little and goes on to his tail, and somehow I know he's telling me that that name is perfect for him.

Congrats!

One of these days a-coming, I'm gonna take that boy's crown

Cause I am, I am a little wicked
I am, I am
Hands red, hands red just like he said

I am a little wicked

No one calls you honey when you're sitting on a throne
