LOC Name: Hodurgan
Pronunciation: ho-DUR-gon
Name Meaning/Origin: His name comes
from the combination of the names of
the Norse god of winter, Hodur, and
the Hindugod of war/victory, Murugan.
Original Name: Thalaris
Gender: Male
Element: Ice
Rank Desired: "I'm a retired warrior, currently a Cub Trainer."Personality: wrote:Solitary: "alone, without companions, unattended"
Even before The Games, Hodurgan was more of a loner.
The other cubs tended to avoid him during play due to
him always playing too rough, so he learned to be alone.
Quiet: "restrained in speech, manner, ect., saying little"
As he learned to live in solitude Hodurgan developed a
rather quiet nature. Even when interacting with other
LOCs in conversation, Hodurgan says the bare minimum.
Kind: "of a good or benevolent nature"
Overall, Hodurgan is a kind LOC. Always offering help to
those who need it. He believes that if he is kind to others
it will make up for the more aggressive side of his nature.
Temperamental: "moody, irritable, sensitive"
Despite being kind, Hodurgan can be rather temperamental,
often letting his temper get to him when things aren't
going his way. However, he never lets it rule his actions.
Calculating: "capable of preforming calculations, cautious"
When it comes to battle, Hodurgan is no fool. He always examines
his opponent and the possible outcomes of the battle before choosing
his course of action.
Bold: "not fearful in the face of actual or possible danger"
Hodurgan is not afraid of a fight. He understands that fighting is
what he was born to do and doesnot fear anything that comes his way.
Paranoid: "baseless or excessive suspicion of the motives of others"
After many years of harsh battle and especially after The Games, Hodurgan
began to experience minor paranoia and the constant thought that he will be
attacked at any moment. This resulted in him not being very trusting of others.
"You'll never know if you never ask."
The Basics: Hodurgan is a noble lion with a troubled past. Before he was called by his current name, Hodurgan was known as Thalaris. He was born in a small valley to two loving parents. His father was an ex-warrior who retired to be a cub trainer to the lions far from the main palace, while his mother was a local healer. Eventually there was an incident, and his father disowned him, forcing Hodurgan to leave home. Hodurgan only saw his father once after that, and that was after the games.
Abilities: When he was a young warrior Hodurgan was skilled in nearly all ice related abilities. He could make blinding blizzards and ice storms with razor sharp ice shards; he could make defensive walls of ice but his favorite ability by far was to freeze his enemies where they stood. However, after his tail broke his powers became erratic and difficult to control. He could no longer fully control his blizzards nor freezing other lions. Now the storms he creates are extremely chaotic, whenever he tries to form walls they are like jagged spikes, and when he freezes his opponents, their bodies are completely encased in ice.
"Who are you? Tell me of The Great Hodurgan."
"Its not every day that someone asks me about my past..." Hordurgan said in a low voice. The dark, battle scarred warrior narrowed his eyes as he looked you over. The icy blue orbs were filled with suspicion but deep within them there was a slight hint of curiosity. Finally, a faint toothy smile appeared on Hodurgan's face and he sat down, "Well, if there's anything you ought to know is that my original name is not Hodurgan. That name was goven to me after The Games of Giddeon. My original name was Thalaris, but how it changed is for another time."
"I was born in a small valley a little over 430 years ago. My father, mother, and I were part of a small community that lived in the far outskirts of the kingdom. Life where we lived was harsh; we had to hunt in order to survive. I suppose it was when I first watched my father hunt that I discovered my lust for battle... And my father took full advantage of it."
"My father was our little communities local cub trainer. He was a retired warrior from highly respected line of fighters. All he wanted was for his own son to live up the family's reputation... luckily that meant me. My father began to prepare me for battle long before any official training began. Learning how to hunt was the first part of my training. Hunting is known for being a dangerous and difficult practice, but my father wanted me to learn that I should never fear getting hurt in battle nor to be afraid to kill my enemy, whether it be creature or lion. I was eager to please my rather strict father and this eagerness to be accepted only fueled my lust for battle even more. My hunting lessons went on until the other cubs and i were supposed to begin our official training."
"Thanks to my father, I was top of my class. I defeated every opponent thrown at me and I calculated their every move. When they shifted their weight to strike, I would knock them off balance. When they succumbed to rage, I used it against them. And when they hesitated, I attacked with all my strength. Unfortunately, my classmates soon became jealous of my success. Ah yes... I made many enemies in my early years." Hodurgan paused a moment and smiled to himself. It wasn't the sort of smile you get when recalling a fond memory, but one you have after getting away with mischief. "Hm, I do recall one of my classmates ambushing me on my way home from training once. He thought he'd teach me a lesson... and boy did I learn it."Thalaris walked along the well worn dirt path that lead through the valley towards his families den. There was a light breeze blowing against his face and the young Thalaris let out a content sigh. Training went splendidly, he had gotten better at defeating the elementals that challenged him daily. "Well if it isn't the valley's little prodigy!" a voice suddenly sounded from behind him. Thalaris turned around to come face to face with his classmate Dionysus. The young fire lion had hidden in the grass off the path so as to be undetected by Thalaris. "Dionysus," Thalaris responded narrowing his eyes at the other cub, "here for another sparring match?" Dionysus' fur stood on end in rage and lunged at Thalaris. The two cubs fought for a long while and Dionysus just became more and more arrogant as he fought, and the young Thalaris thought he had the advantage until Dionysus swung out his neck in rage, wildly biting at the air. As Thalaris ducked away, his opponent caught the end of his tail by chance. Thalaris stiffened as Dionysus gripped one of the bone spades at the end of his tail. The tabby cub glared at him as they stood there. "This isn't funny anymore. Let. Go." Thalaris said as he stared at furious cub; however, Dionysus just smiled. "No." he said, his voice slightly muffled by his clenched jaws, "I didn't come here to have fun, I came to teach you a lesson. But this is far better. How can you defeat me if you can even use your powers?" With that, Dionysus bit down as hard as he could, and the last thing either cub saw was a large blast of Ice exploding from Thalaris' now broken tail...
Hodurgan tapped the bone tip of his tail on the stone ground, "When I woke up I was in the healers cave with my mother tending to me. On the other side of the den, Dionysus was being thawed out of a large block of ice. That stupid lion managed to survive, but... my tail would never heal.... My father was so disappointed. He said: 'How do you expect me and the other trainers to teach him now? We cannot teach a disabled lion'. And so he sent me away to be trained by a personal mentor experienced with training special cases like me. In essence, I was disowned because of another lion's jealousy... and I haven't seen my family since..."
"Oh how I despised my mentor. My father was tough on me yes, but because the source of my power was broken, I could no longer fully control my abilities. So my mentor pushed me not only to my physical, but also mental breaking point. He was also a fire elemental, like Dionysus. He taught me how to defeat a lion that possessed my greatest weakness. It was a lot harder after my tail was broken. To this day i can still not fully control my ability, especially if I let my emotions get in the way, but that rarely happens. Now that I look back on it, that cranky lion did do me a lot of good. Because the day I defeated him in battle without letting my power go out of control, was the day I achieved my adult form."
"After that I became a warrior. I steadily climbed the ranks despite my permanent injury. Oh how I miss those days... The lust for battle pumping through you as you wait to attack. The rush of energy and excitement as you make the first charge. The feeling of power as you look upon your defeated enemy! Ah! How I miss it... But I retired not long after The Games. Figured that I ought to teach the future warriors how to fight well, rather than grow old watching their poor skill until I die." Hodurgan let out a sigh and got up to shake out his fur. The brute turned and looked at you again. "Well, that's all there is. That's the story of Thalaris."
"But what of The Games?"
"Ah I should've known you'd want me to elaborate on my time in The Games," Hodurgan said sitting back down, "I, like many warriors during the time of The Games, was sent on a sort of military leave, a vacation if you will. Many of my fellow soldiers returned to their homes to rest from battle and be with their family. Sadly, I was unable to return home, and even if I could I didnt like the idea of sitting around all day, doing nothing productive with my time. So, on my holiday away from battle, I enlisted to compete in The Games of Giddeon...."The day was bright and warm, lions from across the planet were gathering to witness this year's Games of Giddeon. Crowds upon crowds of lions poured into the arena, among them was an unusually large, dark male with a broken tail shard. Thalaris strode silently through the mass of lions. Most of them were spectators, commenting on who they wanted to win in each of the various events. All the chatter formed a loud rumble that Thalaris had heard miles before he even laid eyes on the arena. Unlike the rest of the of the lions, who all seemed to enjoy socializing, Thalaris kept to himself. He had created quite a name for himself in battle and figured he may not receive too warm a welcome from some lions. So instead, the dark ice elemental headed to the combat arena in silence, though it wasn't long until he found it. There were three other lions, who had already signed up. Two were clearly death elementals based on their pelts and behavior, the third was a young earth elemental, who seemed to be bragging about his skills. Thalaris went and placed his name on the list, he put down his name and element, then turned back to his fellow competitors. The two death lion would prove to be the more difficult to go against, but Thalaris hoped one would be eliminated so he would only have to fight one of them. The young earth lion seemed rather cocky, based on how much he was boasting, he would most likely prove to be the easiest to fight. Thalaris went to stand with them when he heard an all too familiar voice, "Well well well, Thalaris, what a surprise to see you here. You here for another sparring match?" Thalaris turned to see the snickering face of his old classmate, Dionysus.
"After all those years of not seeing anyone from my valley, Dionysus and I met once more," Hodurgan said with a sigh, clearly still annoyed with Dionysus even after so long. "It was amazing the competition didnt start then and there," Hodurgan continued, "Our ring master broke up our... little argument, and sorted us into pairs. I would fight the earth lion called Rasjamin, Dionysus would fight one of the death elementals known as Nightshade, and the other death elemental, Damian, would wait on the side till either one of the fights ended and battle the winner of said fight. The ring master told us there were no rules to the fight, save that you only fight one lion at a time and to at least try not to kill our opponents, though if it played out that way then so be it."The arena floor was a hot, sandy pit. There were urns of water on the sides for any water elementals, though none turned up at the event. All five competitors stood in the arena, facing their opponent, though Damian sat on the side to wait to fight a winner. Thalaris looked down the arena towards where Dionysus faced Nightshade. Thalaris sursed silently to himself as he wanted to watch Dionysus' fighting tactics so he could learn how to beat him, but both battles had to occur simultaneously, so Thalaris would just have to wait. He turned his attention back to the green lion in front of him and looked him over. This lion, Rasjamin, was clearly many years younger than Thalaris himself, though that seemed to be his only advantage. He's got youth and speed on his side, Thalaris thought, But his cockiness should prove to be his downfall.
"BEGIN!!" Came the booming voice of the ring master, at the sound of which Rasjamin lunged at Thalaris; but Thalaris had anticipated a rash attack like this and took a swift step to the side while landing a decisive blow on the earth bender as he slid past. This enraged the younger male and Rasjamin turned to attack again, but this time with three massive boulders that he pulled from the earth. Rasjamin hurled these at Thalaris, who formed a domed shield out of jagged ice. Rasjamin's smile quickly faded at the sight of the fearsome shield and was even more shocked when said shield exploded into dozens of shards of ice that flew in all directions.
Thalaris strode out of the mist. His head was low, his shoulders raised, and his ice cold eyes seemed to stare right into Rasjamin. The broken end of Thalaris' tail had a cool mist flowing out of it. The large ice bender then dove at the still shocked Rasjamin and the two fought with tooth and claw . Thalaris' prediction was correct: the earth bender was young and arrogant and easy to outsmart; however, out of sheer desperation, Rasjamin opened a massive pit beneath them and the two fell apart and into the pit.
As the dust cleared away Thalaris got to his paws, sore from his landing. As he got up, a warm, thick liquid ran down his face and into his eyes as they darted around for any sight of Rasjamin until they spotted him a short distance away. "H-how do you do that with a broken tail?" the green lion asked as he stared at Thalaris. Above they could hear the cheering of the crowd and the sound of the other battle going on, "How can you use your power with a broken tail?" Thalaris stretched his claws with a sigh, "Its only partially broken," he said calmly, 'I just lack full control is all." And with that, Thalaris touched the tip of his tail to the ground and the ground froze instantly forming an icy wave that began to fill the entire pit. It rushed towards Rasjamin like lightning but the young lion wasn't quick enough and was engulfed as well. The black spotted lion let out a sigh and strode over to the block of ice containing his frozen opponent. He breathed on the part where Rasjamin's head should be and melted the ice away. The younger lion took in a massive gulp of air as his head was released from it's icy prison.
"I had won my first battle of The Games," Hodurgan said, "I spared Rasjamin, he was too young to do die so stupid. Anyway, after i climbed out of the pit i got the chance to watch Dionysus fight. He had defeated Nightshade, the poor lion was burned so badly, but Damien was now Dionysus' opponent. It looked like i was going to be fighting for first so i took the opportunity to catch my breath and watch the other battle. And as if the fates had planned it, Dionysus won. Meaning i would be fighting my old classmate for the title of champion..."The crowd had grown quiet. Dionysus stood over the charred body of Damien. It seemed only fitting that the last battle of The Games of Giddeon be a face off of opposing elements. Thalaris stood, blood still ran down his face, as he waited for the fire bender to face him. "So it's just you and me now huh?" Dionysus said in a cruelly pleased tone as he turned to Thalaris, "Ready to lose the other shard of your tail?" Dionysus' paws lit on fire, and ice began to creep along Thalaris' claws in turn. The two came at one another with everything they had. They were fierce and vicious, biting and clawing one another, trying their hardest to weaken their opponent. Fire balls and ice shards rained down from the sky in torrents. The arena floor burned in a blazing inferno as a massive blizzard swirled around the two males. "Come on Thalaris! I thought you went off to get some special training!" Dionysus taunted as he slammed a flaming claw into the side of Thalaris' face. Thalaris stumbled backwards as he glared at his opponent. Wind whipped about his fur, they could hardly see the crowd of spectators Thalaris' storm was so thick now. Thalaris burned for revenge. He wanted to make Dionysus pay for what he did all those years ago in the valley, for making him have to leave his home and his family, and especially for breaking his tail. For perhaps the only time in his life, Thalaris let his anger get the best of him and he leaped right at Dionysus. The tabby male met him and the two rolled until Dionysus was on top pinning Thalaris down. "Hahaha! Look at you Thalaris! Cant control anything can you?" the tabby male said as he dug his burning claws into Thalaris' shoulders, a wicked smile, like the one from their list fight all those years ago, appeared on his face, "With that broken tail of yours all you can create is chaos." Thalaris snapped. His rage built up so much that ice began to form around the broken spade of his tail, it grew until it formed a jagged tip, "You'd be surprised how useful chaos can be." Thalaris said before pushing Dionysus off with his hind legs, sending him flying backwards. Quick as lightning, Thalaris was now the one on top. He leaned his face down, his ice cold eyes bore into the other males, a flicker of hatred flashed within them, "Looks like I won this sparring match, Dionysus." With that, Thalaris stabbed the spade of his tail into Dionysus. The fire bender's eyes widened in shock and fear as the ice tip of Thalaris' tail broke off and remained in the wound. The fires and the wind began to die down until all was silent. The crowd looked strained to see what was happening down in the arena, and when the dust finally cleared, they could finally see the result of the games: a massive black lion with blue spots and a broken tail, stood over the limp body of a flame colored tabby. Thalaris backed away from the body and looked around at the crowd, which remained silent. "You won," said a voice from across the arena. It was Rasjamin, who had been pulled out of the pit and thawed out, "You won." The crowd suddenly burst into a frenzy as they cheered for Thalaris. Lions came pouring into the arena to congratulate him.
Thalaris unused to so much contact began to look for the ring master in the hopes of being saved from the mobs of lions. He spotted the ring master, but there was another lion with him. The crowd died down as the two lions approached. "Congratualtions," The ring master said in a blunt tone, "You've won the games." The other lion came out from behind the ring master. Thalaris, for once, was the one in shock. "Father..." The old lion had aged tremendously since Thalaris last saw him. Thalaris' father strode up to him in silence and looked him right in the eye, then looked at the body of Dionysus, "So, I send my prized pupil to compete in the games to only have him killed by my son." Thalaris' heart sank. After all these years, his father was still disappointed in him. The old lion looked back at the bloody champion. "Yes. Congratulations, Hodurgan." He practically spat the name before turning around and striding off, with the newly named Hodurgan, staring sadly after him.
"The crowd assumed that was my name and proceeded to cheer it for the rest of the day." Hodurgan stared at his paws, "To my father, Dionysus wasn't the only lion he lost that day. To him, his son Thalaris had died the second Dionysus was killed. After that, there was only Hodurgan...""Revenge always comes at a price."~Hodurgan to his pupils
Relationships:
Khuza (Student): Khuza was one of Hodurgans earliest students. He and his best friend Xerxes were trained how to fight by the victor of The Games, however, Khuza did not grow as close to Hodurgan as Xerxes. Khuza often found the older brute to be a little too harsh for his taste but still respects Hodurgan as a friend and ally, even if Horurgan only sees Khuza as a student.
Xerxes (Friend/Apprentice): Xerxes was one of Hodurgan's first apprentices and grew very close to the battle scarred warrior. Hodurgan took special care in training the young poison LoC, because he lacked control, much like Hodurgan did in once his tail shard was broken. The two grew very close to one another, Hodurgan often refers to Xerxes as the son he wished he had. Though Xerxes is a full time warrior now, Hodurgan is always pleased when he hears word of his apprentice's success. When away from battle, Xerxes often makes time to visit his lonesome instructor. http://www.chickensmoothie.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=2837073
