Double Merle's actually ARE allowed in the breed. However, before the ownership change were only available through breeding because they are unhealthy dogs and we as artists don't wish to create dogs that are so unhealthy just for beauty. If an "owner" wants to irresponsibly breed, we can't stop them.

So they are allowed - however as far as I'm aware are only obtainable through breeding; and it's very rare to get one regardless. Just like chimerics are very hard to get(only difference being chimerics are made for public adoption sometimes)

I actually own a double merle named Lorenzo. He is deaf, partially blind, and infertile. I believe there is only one other double merle so far, though I am not certain who owns it.

There have been three double merles thus far that have been adopted. Theyre pretty rare to adopt out because we like to give working dogs, but some pups slip through the cracks. You can breed two merles together, but know there is a small chance that one of your pups will be a double merle. Of course, if you want a double merle, go ahead and breed away. Double merles are allowed within the species. c:

Um, if you go strictly by genetics, there should be a 25% chance, unload you added a gene that reduces the percentage?

I don't know if Zax plans on doing the same, but deer would roll for rare genes and such. So yes, there was a chance that it would land on double Merle, though I'm not sure if he went by 25% or not. Just know there's some chance that a double Merle will occur if two Merle's breed with one another. ^^
