The wind blew it's icy breath over the landscape, chilling everything in it's path. Ponds stood frozen in the moonlight, as great elm trees creek and sway overhead. Snow littered the ground like a great blanket. It was the coldest night in history. In this icy disaster, a Viscet was born. It was a small egg, hardly half of the normal size. As worried parents watch over their prize, a voice howled on the wind. "Rhys....Rhys...." It called with increasing violence. The minuscule egg wobbled slightly and fell onto it's side. "RHYS!" The wind shouted as loud as an oncoming train. Every sound of life stopped. The trees stopped creaking as the wind stopped blowing. The parents ran to the egg, worried about the outburst from nature. Nothing stirred in the blizzard outside of their warm, cozy cave they call home for the winter. Days passed. Days turned into months. The little Viscet was overdue, his hatch day come and gone. The mother watched intently for signs of life, perhaps a squeak or two. None came. Hope was fading. The light of a beautiful spring day illuminated the cave, chasing out the shadows and flooding every crevice with light. First, it was a barely audible whisper, then it came louder. "Rhys..." The wind called for the first time in months. "Rhys.... OUT!" It commanded. A long, earsplitting squeak echoed around the cave, Then one crack, two, then three. Excited, the mother yelled for the father to come. He sprinted over, almost hitting his head on the roof. They peered down at the queer egg as a small snout pocked it's way into the world. Soon came it's entire head. Relief flooded into the parent's eyes, soon to be replaced by overwhelming joy. The mother gently stretched her graceful neck over to the egg and picked up her baby, cradling it in the crook of her arm. She licked it's face gingerly. With a kiss, Rhys opened his eyes to the light of day. Unknown to the tiny creature was that his life would be filled with joy, yet many difficulties as well. With a sneeze, he smiled a great toothy smile. And so, Rhys was born.
As the undersized Viscet grew, he began to realize his differences. When other Viscets were nearing their full height, he was only about four foot tall, half the size of normal. This created many challenges for the little one, needing to compromise and adapt to his environment. He felt a deep connection to the earth. As this connection grew, so did an overwhelming desire to protect it. Whenever he saw trash left by their human companions, he waddled over to pick it up, careful to not drop any. He would run around until a trash bin was found. He would drop it in, a sense of pride filling his core being. When he was sixteen, he found a small, malnourished robin. Taking it home, he raised it, feeding it every couple hours. The robin, named Ken, became his best friend. They go everywhere together. Even so, he is beginning to wonder about his life purpose. He feels like he needs to do something important...Theme SongRhys' theme song is Roar by Katy Perry https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CevxZvSJLk8. He feels like he has something important to do in his life and will one day show the world what it is.
