I actually really like this one!
The bubble-like shell is armor of some sort - they can magically summon it and make it disappear.

How did they get their armor? Octav was silently padded down to her house when she stumbled upon a witch. the witch cackled and held out a bottle of bubbles. Octav tilted her head as the witch blew a bubble around her. How dare she! The bubble soon was popped by the same witch and the liquid from the popping stuck to parts of her fur, creating some kind of armor.

How did they get their armor? Mellohi was just an average kitten living in Oz. (wizard of oz) She was an orphan and had to live on what the kind munchkins gave her. One day, Mellohi accidentally went into the palace of Glinda the good witch. Glinda was kind and decided to help the poor kitten. Mellohi and Glinda soon became best friends. When the people of Oz were fighting the wicked witch of the west, Glinda had gifted Mellohi her own set of bubble armor. The armor is lightweight and very durable, yet it can deflect and type of magic or weapon there is. Mellohi is very proud of her armor and wears it to show how thankful Mellohi is to Glinda.
