Hello everyone c: I had a quick question about filters in a Betta tank. I've read that they're not very strong swimmers. I was also reading that they should have a filter in their tank to keep the water clean. I had a glass tank (2.5 gal) with a filter and a heater that I purchased separately. I set up the filter and, when it was on, noticed that it was way too strong and was flinging my fish around the tank. I immediately unplugged it and took it out of the tank. I bought a new tank today (another 2.5 gal; bought it since I didn't like the other one anyway) that came with a small filter, LED light, and a lid with enough space in the back so that the filter cord and my tank heater cord can both go out the back of the tank. I prepared the tank (treated water, checked temperature, rinsed rocks/decoration plants before adding them, etc.) and introduced my Betta. I plugged in the filter and noticed, when my fish got close enough, that the current from the filter was strong enough to throw my poor Betta across the tank. I unplugged the filter after watching my fish struggle to swim in the tank.
What is the best way to use a filter in a Betta tank? Should I use one at all? I just think that filters are necessary parts of a tank, but the ones I've been attempting to use are just too strong for my little guy.

They all get along really well and its been fun trying to figure out each ones personality and i still dont know whoes top dog, but they all get along pretty well so im not looking out for anyone in paticular. Overal this has been very, very neat <3 does anyone else have a sority?

I have had fish in the past, but I was very young when we had them. I know basic fish care but that's just because I've always been very particular about the care of my animals, even as a child. I had three goldfish and three tropical fish, so having a betta is definitely a new experience for me!
Her name is Lacey, and she is absolutely gorgeous. This picture really doesn't do her any justice; she's very vibrant for a female. Her body is light pink with a purpley-iridescent glow to it when the light hits it correctly, and her fins are mostly deep pink with some purple on the edges.
Picture!
I took that picture while she was still in the cup that the pet store gave us. I ended up using filtered water to fill her tank because we have a water fountain specifically for filling bottles with bottle-grade water, so I hope that was okay! I put in one of the solutions that is supposed to make the water safe for the fish and remove any toxins. The woman at the pet store was pretty helpful with everything.
My question is, how much should I be feeding her? The woman who sold her to me said three pellets once a day, but I've read other sources that say 3-5 pellets twice a day. One even says that you should feed the fish until they stop eating, but I'm fairly positive that is not a good idea at all; fish will eat themselves to death. Another website said that their stomachs are the size of their eye, and the pellets expand in the digestive tract, so... I really don't know how much I should be feeding her! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
