They all get along really well and its been fun trying to figure out each ones personality and i still dont know whoes top dog, but they all get along pretty well so im not looking out for anyone in paticular. Overal this has been very, very neat <3 does anyone else have a sority?

Seasonal <3 wrote:I just got myself a betta as well! ^_^ I've been getting a bit lonely since I no longer live at home with my cat, dog, and bird, so I decided to get a betta because they are easy to care for. I have had fish in the past, but I was very young when we had them. I know basic fish care but that's just because I've always been very particular about the care of my animals, even as a child. I had three goldfish and three tropical fish, so having a betta is definitely a new experience for me!
Her name is Lacey, and she is absolutely gorgeous. This picture really doesn't do her any justice; she's very vibrant for a female. Her body is light pink with a purpley-iridescent glow to it when the light hits it correctly, and her fins are mostly deep pink with some purple on the edges.
Picture!
I took that picture while she was still in the cup that the pet store gave us. I ended up using filtered water to fill her tank because we have a water fountain specifically for filling bottles with bottle-grade water, so I hope that was okay! I put in one of the solutions that is supposed to make the water safe for the fish and remove any toxins. The woman at the pet store was pretty helpful with everything.
My question is, how much should I be feeding her? The woman who sold her to me said three pellets once a day, but I've read other sources that say 3-5 pellets twice a day. One even says that you should feed the fish until they stop eating, but I'm fairly positive that is not a good idea at all; fish will eat themselves to death. Another website said that their stomachs are the size of their eye, and the pellets expand in the digestive tract, so... I really don't know how much I should be feeding her! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Funsized wrote:@ seasonal feed them about 4 pellets. I suggest feeding them 2 in the morning, 2 in the night. It's good because then they eat it and you don't waste the food, because if fed 4 in the morning, they will probably only eat 2 but still be hungry at dinner.

I got a new betta last night, a gorgeous halfmoon.
I've wanted one with a more round tail for forever (I have two rescue veil tails) so I went for it.
My axolotl also came in the mail two weeks ago, and is settling in very well. Still looking for a name for her.
In the tropical tank, I am currently having troubles with diatom blooms. I've been trying to keep things dark to inhibit growth, I've scrubbed everything three times now, and I got a mystery snail to try to control it, but it's coming right back. Any tried and true remedies that you know of?
Is the tank cycled? How long has it been set up? If your tank is new and hasn't stabilized yet, that's the cause of the diatom blooms. In that case they will go away on their own after a couple months. I know the diatoms are a pain, but they're actually one of the better algaes. They rapidly consume the nutrients needed by other less healthy algaes that cause more problems. If the tank isn't new... are you using a silica sand by any chance? Diatoms feed off of silicates so the higher the silicate level in your tank the more diatoms you'll have to deal with.
I personally use nerite snails for diatom control. Mystery snails aren't worth it, imo. Too much waste and not enough algae eating.
