Didn't see this in the rules? I don't have five people who like user made adopts who I can invite, so is there any other way to get the free customs?

You can invite random people too, it doesn't have to just be friends...
Unfortunately, there isn't really a way without buying a custom. The event details are listed below the "open for posting" sign.
