Velea Mai, which means "golden wisdom"

Panophobia, which is the fear of everything.
For Velea, things are not always what the seem. Her head contorts the truth of things around her, making her hair prick up and her ears move to things that are not there. One minute she says she hears someone talking to her, when the room is dead silent. Next, Velea will say that someone touched her when everyone is across the room. To her, these things are real and tangible... but to everyone else she is just delusional. The problem is.. that she isn't crazy, she is gifted.

Velea was gifted with an odd gift of sight. She knows when things have happened, or things that can still happen. This gift has caused her way of life to become jumbled and frayed. Ever since she was a little girl, she has to fight to keep her gift in order so that she could appear normal. But as she grew, it became harder.. for the stability in her life had failed and now she has to live in a form of chaos.

So her uniqueness, her gift, has made her become scared of everything. Possibilities. There are endless amounts, and the sheer volume is what makes Velea scared and freak out. She understands that one thing can change a million of other things. So, for her.. one step can change how she sees the world when she isn't able to contain herself.

Velea stood in the heart of the New York crowd.

Children passed her, laughing to themselves. Adults passed, talking about
their days. Everyone passed her without so much of a glance. But Velea
was staring at each and every one of them. Her face was slowly cringing
as she saw more than just the people.

That girl that just walked by.. Her class bullies her.

The man that laughed about how great his life was.. he wasn't going to
be here much longer.

Velea saw the flicker of moments of the people that walked past her,
like a web that a butterfly would fall victim to. And each flash she saw,
Velea would start to reel. Today was not a day she could control, and
under her breathe she whispered.

"I should've stayed home.."

It was starting to be too much, and Velea had no where to run. There
was just more people. Every turn a new flash. Every alley a moment
of someone's life. It was clouding her eyes and her ears were ringing
loudly. And so.. She fell.

Her hands covered her ears, and she clamped her eyes shut as tight as
they could be. Her mouth was moving, repeatedly saying... "Make it stop!
Make it stop!" And finally people started to notice the girl, crumpled
on the ground. Some people stopped and stared, some backed up as if
she was some scary monster.

Velea rocked herself back and forth, unable to move much more than
that. People were crowding around her now which was making it
harder for her to breathe. She felt as if this wave was never going to
stop, that this pressure was going to drown her once and for all..

But then something happened.

A plumie stepped out of the crowd and started yelling. Velea had no
idea what they were saying but people moved, gave her space. The
plumie then slowly approachedand crouched down next to her.
Valea finally eased up, the flashes reseeding as she started to gain
control over herself once again. The plumie tentatively touched
Velea's back, and whispered that it was going to be alright.. Valea
nodded, and shakily stood up.

And a final flash happened.

But this time it was Valea's life, and she knew that someday she
would be able to control her brokenness and that she would
be able to just... well.. be.
