Username: BlueRocketMouse, though you may know me better as Ditzy Derp.
Kennel Numbers: 10, 82, 106
Use: I have something very big planned out for these guys. Though none of them know it yet, all three of them will become connected in the future. In other words, I have a story planned for them. I'm not sure if it will be written or done as a comic, but I'll be spending a lot of time with these three. Obviously they'll be getting tons of art if I go with the comic, but even if I choose to write I plan on drawing some illustrations and standalone pieces.
Name: Malli
Gender: Female
Species: Snake Dog
Personality: Malli is the spirit of youth. Vivacious and carefree, she seems more caught up in the glamor of being a princess than actually learning how to be a good ruler in preparation for her future as queen. Malli makes most of her decisions in much the same way. She tends to focus more on having fun today than thinking about what consequences it will have tomorrow. Malli can also be quite bossy with a "you must do as I say" attitude. It's not intended to come off in a malevolent way though. Many of her commands are extravagant or even silly, but still perfectly harmless. She's charming enough that she can persuade the palace staff to follow through most of the time anyway. It also helps Malli get away with a lot of mischief. Something of a trouble maker, she's not always the best at covering her tracks, so she likes being able to snake herself (pun fully intended) out of a tough situation.
History: Malli was born to the monarchs of an expansive kingdom in the desert. Her adventurousness was noticed very quickly when she brought a (thankfully non-venomous) snake in from the courtyard and asked if she could keep it. Malli's parents expected this meant she would have an easy time making friends with other children. It soon became clear that was not the case. She may have been an extrovert, but her boisterousness caused more problems than it helped. Few children appreciated Malli's troublemaking when they were the victims. Her favorite prank was fabricating a story about how her snake had swallowed an entire elephant once, then pretending that she had escaped from her cage. Incidentally, this happened to be visitors' least favorite prank. Malli's parents hosted dozens of playdates with just as many families in the hopes that she might click with someone, but nothing worked. Understandably, they were becoming more than a little frustrated, especially since it didn't seem to be going away with age. How would their daughter grow into a successful diplomat if she couldn't even make a friend?
Malli, on the other hand, was not so concerned. She was having a fine time and saw no reason to change. She wasn't even all that lonely. Despite what her parents believed, Malli did have friends. Nobody talked to the cooks, servants, or guards more than her. They had much more interesting stories, in her opinion, and she loved the small taste of their travels they gave her. Malli wasn't exactly locked up in the palace, but she couldn't just waltz out of the city. So she had to make do with word of mouth. And so her daily life continues. Usually, stories are just enough to be satisfying. But Malli still wishes for a future free of responsibility, where she can make amazing stories of her own.
Name: Rahim
Gender: Male
Species: Amridingo
Personality: Rahim can be something of a pushover. He's not the confrontational type, too readily allowing people to take advantage of him. Working effectively under pressure is almost impossible for him, at least when he's around other people. Put him on the spot and he'll say yes to anything you say before he even comprehends what you've just said. Rahim has aspirations, but not always the ambition to realize them. He's humble to the point of letting others take credit for what he does. Despite being earnest and dedicated in the tasks he accepts, Rahim has been given a reputation for being lazy as a result. As upsetting as it is for him to be seen that way, Rahim just doesn't have the backbone to challenge it. Perhaps the biggest reason he has made it as far as he has is that Rahim is surprisingly good in combat. He'd never start his own fight, of course, but when it comes to defending against an attacker, there are few you'd rather have at your side than him.
History:As a child, Rahim grew up almost exclusively in his older sister's shadow. Nobody could deny she was mommy and daddy's favorite. She was the captain of the royal guard, an impressive achievement for one of her age. Rahim too had his sights on joining the guard, but while his sister was renowned throughout the land for her prowess, Rahim was only known for being her brother. He constantly feared that he would never be able to live up to her success. Even more, he feared that he would be stuck in childhood forever, always being compared to and then overlooked in favor of his sister. Nevertheless, Rahim felt too pressured to say no by both himself and his parents when enrollment for trainees opened up.
His application may not have looked all too impressive, but when your sister is in charge of choosing from the pool of candidates, it's hard not to get picked. Rahim's life as a trainee was not easy, however. Outside of being accepted into the program, he received no special help or favors. In fact, one could easily argue the opposite. Knowing exactly how underqualified he was for the job, Rahim's sister pushed him harder than the other trainees. Much harder. She picked on him to the point where Rahim felt like he couldn't even be sure she was doing it just to help him. What was worse was that it made the other trainees more likely to pick on him too. The whole ordeal made Rahim miserable, but the fear of being seen as a failure kept from leaving.
By the time Rahim finished with training, things had changed somewhat. Though he had started to find some recognition for his combat skills, it wasn't enough to completely ammend his sad reputation. Now that training was over and Rahim had transferred to a real unit, he didn't see his sister as much anymore. His relationship with her, having last ended on a sour note, began to tarnish. Rahim had finally made it to a(n albeit low) position on the royal guard, but he wasn't so sure anymore that it was going to fix anything.
Name: Terrestidoth
Gender: Male
Species: Dragon
Personality: Terrestidoth is a kind-hearted giant. Though he approaches others with caution on the first meeting, he's quick to trust if he doesn't percieve them as a threat. If you do seem to have something shady going on, however, watch out. Terrestidoth can be very protective of his friends when they're much smaller than him (which is pretty much always the case). It can also be hard to get a second chance with him. It's not that Terrestidoth doesn't believe in second chances, but rather that it takes him a while to get over things. Unfortunately, "a while" in dragon terms can end up being another creature's whole lifespan. That's perhaps the worst part about being separated from his species for Terrestidoth. He won't have to worry about dying for millennia, but at most his friends will last a century, if even that. It's an upsetting fact of life that he often compensates for by trying to be friends with everyone. Other people's lives are so fragile, it makes him paranoid that someday he'll run out of friends to talk to and then he'll truly be alone.
History: When Terrestidoth was born, it wasn't immediately obvious that anything was amiss. His particular species of dragon was born without wings; hatchlings didn't receive their wings until they were at least 50 years old, usually appearing fully by the time they were 100. So when Terrestidoth's 150th birthday rolled around and his back remained bare, his parents became very troubled. Their species lived high up in the clouds, an ability that was made possible by the magical qualities of their wings. For hatchlings, this wasn't a problem because their tiny size let them stay safely on the clouds while their wings grew in. Terrestidoth, however, was beginning to go through the massive growth spurts that occurred before and during adolescence. Each day brought a higher risk of Terrestidoth becoming too large for the fragile clouds to support and plummeting to his death.
After one too many close calls, Terrestidoth's family moved temporarily to the ground where they taught him how to hunt and survive on his own. Though they were trying their hardest to give their son the best chances possible, there was only so much they could do and it was impossible for them to stay forever. They yearned to rejoin the wide open skies. Half a century later, Terrestidoth's parents returned home and he was left to his own devices. To a young dragon, there was a sense of ultimate liberation in being set free on the world. The first thing Terrestidoth did was find a new proper den for himself, one that would still fit him as he continued to grow. He chose a cave set inside of a mountain that overlooked the viridian valley below. Above it, the beautiful golden sand of a distant desert could be seen on the horizon.
Not much time passed before Terrestidoth began to notice some visitors. A tiny village sprung up in the valley seemingly overnight. He left it alone for a while, but as it grew he became more and more intrigued. His curiosity soon got the better of him and he approached the villagers. Initially, his presence caused a stir among the populace. Once the shock wore off, however, and it became clear he was not there to eat them, Terrestidoth was welcomed into their community. The villagers were a peculiar folk, but that only fueled Terrestidoth's interest and made him enjoy their company even more. Indeed, he became very good friends with many of them and took on the role of a guardian of sorts, defending them against traveling bandits and looters. It's undeniable that Terrestidoth is enjoying his new life. Yet, every now and again, he can't help but feel a little lonely at the isolation from his own species.
