what is a "Markiplier" you ask? Mark Edward Fischbach, better known as "Markiplier", is a twenty seven year old youtuber that falls under the category of a "let's play" youtuber. he is most well known for his playthroughs of games in the horror genre, such as Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Five Nights at Freddy's, and Slender, though he plays many other types of games besides horror. for example, he has his long running series of Drunk Minecraft (he plays minecraft drunk, with his friends Bob and Wade), Happy Wheels, and many others. He has made dozens of sketch comedy's with accounts such as Random Encounters and Cyndago. Markiplier often hosts charity live streams, to raise money for charities by playing video games for hours. along with asking his fans to donate, he donates some of his own money. in the past, he has raised money for chairities such as Child's Play, St. Jude's Children Hospital, the American Cancer Society, Depression and Bipolar Alliance, Crisis Text Line, and many others. since September, he has raised a grand total of more than $2,346,000 since he began youtube April 11th, 2012. like many youtubers, Mark has his own characters, his alter ego, Wilford Warfstache, and Tiny Box Tim, a tiny box he found in Amnesia: A Late Night Drink. as of April 2nd, 2017, his channel has over 17.2 million subscribers, over 6.9 billion total video views, and is the 21st most subscribed channel on YouTube.

Mark plays with a style contrasting that of many other let's players on youtube. while some play with a subdued, sarcastic and sometimes panicked mood, and others with a constantly confused, panicked, and action-packed way, he plays with a mixture of both. he commonly uses an exaggerated facade of courage when clear of danger, proclaiming his superhuman strength, bravery, and incredible sexy good looks (most prevalent in his earlier playthroughs). he (jokingly) overstates either his gaming skills, or his incompetence with solving puzzles, and threatens off-screen monsters often. upon the appearance of an enemy in-game, he often panics, giving his trademark screams and fleeing towards the nearest available hiding place. upon the departing of, or escaping from the threat, his smooth attitude returns and so do his jests towards the game's antagonist. on certain rage games (e.g. Cat Mario and Give Up), even unintentionally rage-inducing games (e.g. Surgeon Simulator 2013, Amnesia: The Great Work), he during any nonsensical puzzle, he goes into fits of rage, usually due to the difficulty of finding the solution. He is often very fired up while playing such games and usually takes a while afterwards to calm down. during his playthrough of the game I Am Bread, he even smashed his controller. Markiplier has an amazing storytelling voice, as well as often hilarious voices for various characters in the game he is playing.

however, what makes Mark stand out from other youtubers is that he is exceptionally caring and a loveable person, one of the main reasons his channel is growing so rapidly. he constant assures his fan base that his only goal is to bring a smile to his viewers face, and always wears his heart on his sleeve, showing his emotions clearly. special vlogs in which Mark talks directly with his fan base are not rare, but on 10/10/2013, after finishing the fan-made game Ripest of Fears, Mark openly admitted that he has lost some of the contact with his fan base while doing his best to be a good entertainer, and he accused himself of giving too much importance to things that really didn't matter, such as putting his subscribers counting ahead of himself. one can see that Mark truly cares for his fans as, closing to the end of the video, he inadvertently showed signs of having cried during his speech and excused himself of making fun of some aspects of the game he was playing, as he admitted that some effort was put into it and that was what really mattered and thanked once more his loyal fans and promised to change back to the way he was, trying harder to reestablish some of this contact he lost by doing more special vlogs and answering more frequently to people.
