Theodora hasn't heard of surfing, but it doesn't take long to explain to her how to surf. She is excited when she finds out how good she naturally is, and I'm impressed. I tried to surf, but just didn't catch the hang of it. We had been using long smooth wood on the beach, but I went to look for a different shaped piece.
Before long I found the perfect piece, and ran into the water by Theodora. She look at me with raised eyebrows. "I'm going boogie boarding instead." I explain. "That's like surfing but just a bit different right? You gonna need help with the waves.?" She asks. "Nope, I got this." And I do, I've been boogie boarding for years. I'm a pro, I even taught several people how to boogie board. Theodora looks skeptical at my ability to handle it though. "Trust me, I've been boogie boarding since I was, at the very most, 10 years old. I don't need help." Theodora puts her eyebrow up again. "Alright, I admit my surfing skills really suck, but I'm good at boogie boarding!" She reluctantly give in, but I see her eyeing me as I float in the water. Several waves pass, and she gets more skeptical. They weren't right, I tell her. Then it comes, not to small not too big. It crests perfectly, and I jump. It crashes onto me, and I fly into shore. The wind blows my hair back, and seawater hits my face, but I am having fun. Too soon, the ride is over, and the wave relinquishes me on the shore. No water is covering me, and I am only sitting on wet sand. Whooping, I stand up. In the sea, Theodora smiles and laughs. "I guess I shouldn't have doubted you then." She yells across the water. "I guess you shouldn't have" I reply.
