    1. Do not take a creature that is not yours! You must follow adoption procedure to own one, or apply for a custom when they are opened.
    2. Respect the staff as well as anyone who posts here! Bad manners and disrespect are absolutely not allowed. Please be kind to everyone, I do not want anyone to feel unwelcome or unsafe participating in this species.
    3. If ANYONE is rude to you on this thread, sends you an unfriendly PM, makes you feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, or disrespected in any way, PLEASE contact Vee or one of the staff. We will handle it and make sure everything gets sorted out.
    4. Do not spam the thread! Spam is considered as whining, complaining, posts with only one word, or things that aren't related to the thread. It is okay to post a compliment or bookmark the thread, but don't post things that you know aren't important. If you are posting to mark the thread, make a comment about something else as well!
    5. PM any questions directly to Vee, no matter how small! It may be added to the FAQ for future reference.
    6. Currently, you may own up to 10 Anapsids at a time, plus one slot allowed for a breeding. This number may change as time goes on.
    7. Three strikes and you're out! You will be given three polite warnings if you break any of the above rules, and after that, you will be blacklisted either temporarily or permanently depending on what you did wrong.
    8. These creatures cannot be your fursona or fursona's mate or anything. You may of course use them as regular characters.

Please read through these questions and answers before you ask anything, in case your question is already answered here! If it isn't, send a PM to Vellamore and she will help you!

Who owns this species?
Vee. is the creator of the Atlantean Anapsid species and they are copyrighted to her.

Can I make my own?
No, you may not. Only artists are permitted to make their own. However, you can order customs when they are open.

When will the next adoptables be released?
Batches will be released at random, as they are completed. There is no set schedule, and we will try to post them at varying times to give everyone a chance!

Are the adoptables free?
Yes. You will usually have a form to fill out, though, and they will not usually be first-come-first-serve! Sometimes, there will be writing or drawing competitions for an Anapsid.

How many can I try out for at a time?
During regular adoptions, you are only allowed to post one form. You may not try out for more than one Anapsid from the same batch. This is to ensure that others have a chance!

How did this person get a custom for free/get to make their own?
Staff members may have one to three customs depending on their status. Close friends of Vee or her staff might also get customs as a gift from time to time. Free customs will not be given unless Vee offers them!

What if I don't want my Anapsid anymore?
You may PM a staff member and they will put your Anapsid up for re-adoption. You may participate in the re-adoption process if you want to! You are not permitted to resell them. With Vee's permission, you may gift them to another user, but please make sure you ask her first!

How do I become a Guest Artist?
On rare occasions, Vee will post a form in the Events/Contests section of the thread which you may fill out and PM to her. She will choose based on your designing abilities. Guest Artist slots will be opened very infrequently.

Can Guest Artists create their own customs?
Yes, Guest Artists are permitted to make ONE custom for themselves if they do not have an Anapsid yet, and design three to be put up for adoption. If a Guest Artist wants to make a custom for a friend, they should PM Vee first and ask her permission!

What am I allowed to do with my Anapsid?
Anything you want! Give it a gender and a name, unless one is already assigned to it, give it a personality, some accessories if you want, order art of it, draw it yourself, roleplay with it, anything! You are permitted to use it on other websites as long as credit is given; link back here if you can!

What am I NOT allowed to do with my Anapsid?
You may not claim credit for the design or the species (unless it's your artist custom or guest artist custom), create your own, steal someone else's Anapsid, change its design, sell it, or gift it to another user without permission. Anyone found breaking these terms will have their Anapsid taken away and may even be banned.

Are they breedable?
Yes, breeding will be integrated into the adoptables at a later date. There is not a breeding option just yet!

Can two Anapsids from the same batch become mates?
Yes, that is allowed, but it is entirely up to their owners. Anapsids that are adopted from the main thread here are technically given out in "batches," but they don't necessarily have to be siblings. If you would rather have your Anapsid be mates with another that was adopted in the same batch, that is something you'll have to work out amongst yourselves. (Also, this does not apply to any anapsids that are results of a breeding. If you breed two Anapsids, any resulting babies have to be siblings.)

Am I allowed to make the image smaller so it fits in my signature?
Sure, you can resize them if you want! As long as the image isn't altered, that's totally fine (:

Everyone knows the story of Atlantis—“in a single day and night of misfortune, the island of Atlantis disappeared into the depths of the sea.” It was a place of intelligence, beauty, and tradition, and has been long gone for thousands of years, along with its history and stories.

Its pets, however, are doing quite well for themselves.

There are two older species of Atlantean creatures currently known—commonly referred to as the Atlantean Salamander and the Atlantean Armadillo. These species have become very rare and have been reduced to extremely endangered status.

However, there appears to be a new species that has cropped up lately and is thriving; apparently, Atlantis isn't done dishing out surprises! The teiidae anapsida, better known simply as the Atlantean Anapsid, appear to be the most intelligent of all known Atlantean species to date. Their features resemble many different modern-day lizards. From their monitor lizard legs to their gecko-like tails, these little reptiles are truly astounding.

Image

A P P E A R A N C E + C H A R A C T E R I S T I C S ;

Atlantean Anapsids are the smallest of Atlantean creatures, standing somewhere around 2 feet tall, with bodies usually around 3 feet long-- up to 5 feet long from nose to tail. They normally weigh between 40 and 70 pounds, with much of the weight being made up by the tail, which stores large amounts of fat, allowing them to go up to 2 months without food! A big, chubby tail is a sign of a healthy Anapsid; individuals in plentiful areas will usually have thicker tails than those with access to less food. They have a strong, athletic build, with a flexible spine that enables them to maneuver into incredible spaces, make sharp turns at top speed, and masterfully navigate through treetops with ease.

A turtle-like skull with a short nose and large, chubby cheeks full of muscle give these critters a strong bite, something to be avoided! They have a few small, backward-facing teeth- similar to a python, but not nearly as many. Two of the teeth on their bottom jaw can produce a mild venom to paralyze small prey. They have a thick, flat tongue, and plenty of sticky saliva to help them catch bugs to eat! On top of their head, most Anapsids sport large, ram-like horns, which are used in battles over territory or food most commonly. Anapsids have leathery, upright ears-- a rare trait in a reptile! They're closest in resemblance to bat ears, though not nearly as perceptive. Their ears change position depending on their mood to indicate to others what they are feeling. These creatures also have a pair of very large expressive eyes, with which they can see visible light the way humans do, but they can also detect infrared rays, which means they can "see" what temperature something is. This gives them excellent night vision and turns them into a heat-seeking missile!

Their bodies are covered in small, soft, shiny scales, which overlap to help protect their skin from insect bites and sunburn. Hatchlings shed their skin once or twice a month while they are growing, but as they reach their adult size, they begin to shed less often. Anapsids have very small feet with strong claws, making them excellent climbers as well as powerful diggers. When running, these claws act like cleats to give them extra stability, making them much quicker than you'd think! The heavy tail does weigh them down a bit though, so some Anapsids have a habit of curling their tail up like a chameleon when they run, to give them better balance. Like a gecko, the Anapsid has the ability to spontaneously detach its tail at the base, leaving it behind to distract a predator. In the event that this happens, their tail can also regenerate, though usually not to its previous length. Some Anapsids are able to regrow toes or even a foot, but this requires careful medical attention from a human to be possible.

D I E T + L I F E . C Y C L E ;

Atlantean Anapsids are omnivores. Primarily, they seem to be partial to seafood, though they also eat plants as well as various insects and small animals. They are opportunistic feeders and will usually eat just about anything they can find. Preferred foods depend on the individual and the environment it lives in, as these creatures have become very adaptable in order to survive.

From what we have observed thus far, Atlantean Anapsids lay a clutch of 1 to 3 eggs, with a soft, leathery shell and a round shape. The hatchlings have a small 'egg tooth' on the tip of their nose, resembling a small rhino horn. They are also blind for the first week or so of their life. Their horns do not begin to grow until they reach their first year, and the horns reach their full length by the time the babies are sexually mature, between 15 and 20 years of age. Once the offspring have matured, the parents have finished their job, and will leave. But in some cases, they appear to form groups called colonies with which they travel.

Unique to this species of Atlanteans, it appears males and females are both able to produce eggs. This is similar to the parthenogenesis observed in some species of modern day lizards, which allows an entirely female species reproduces without males. But the Anapsids have evolved even more astonishingly, where a pair of these creatures is able to produce offspring with DNA from both parents, regardless of gender.

These animals are generally very healthy and are not prone to any species-related health problems. They can live more than 80 years, and it is suspected they lived even longer in the time of Atlantis. They are social creatures and experts believe their purpose was comparable to modern day dogs, acting as guards and sentries, hunters, personal companions, or maybe even working for the people of Atlantis in ways we'd never guess.

V A R I A T I O N S ;

Some Anapsids have horns, tails, spikes, or scales that differ from the common types mentioned above. As we learn more about these creatures through breeding, more variations will become evident, but for now, here are the ones we currently know about!

On top of their head, most Anapsids sport horns, which are used in battles over territory or food most commonly. These horns are first observed in adolescence, and continue to grow as the Anapsid ages. Here are the horn types that have been observed thus far!
No horns;
This variation is not common because their horns are used for defense as well as in territorial fights with others. Lack of horns makes it harder to win!

Single horn;
All Anapsids are born with a small 'egg tooth' on the tip of their nose, which usually falls off after their first shed. But some individuals have been seen with their egg tooth still intact and continuing to grow as they do!

Tri-horns;
In Anapsids that have kept their egg tooth, some also develop more forward-facing horns with age, and have a very triceratops-like appearance.

Stubby horns;
These horns are found when an Anapsid's ram horns don't fully develop into adulthood. They're still effective defense weapons though!

Dragon horns;
So called because of the dragon-like appearance these Anapsids have, due to the bony growths that develop on their jawbones as well.

Ram horns;
The most common horn type! It is speculated that ram horns have the ability to grow longer than any other type.

Image

There are also different tail lengths among Anapsids; some of these variations are due to their ability to regrow a lost tail, but some differences are genetic! Here are the three types an Anapsid can be born with!
Short;
Short tails are very rare to find among Anapsids. A short tail means the animal has less space for extra fat stores, and is not able to survive as long without food as a normal Anapsid. This variation is only found in places where food is plentiful.

Common;
This length is seen in the majority of Anapsids, and is long enough that these animals can last through a drought or an off-season and not starve to death, by living off fat that can be burned and used for energy.

Long;
Long tails are still very uncommon to find. A long tail means an animal can go extreme lengths of time without feeding, but it is also heavier and slows the animal down a fair bit. Anapsids with long tails aren't able to run quite as fast.

Image

Some Anapsids have other traits like longer claws, spines along the body, or larger scales. These oddities are rarely documented, and every now and again, a new one pops up!

C U S T O M . I N F O ;

Here, you will be able to order your own custom Anapsid! Currently, customs are CLOSED.

While adoptions are mostly free, customs will not be. You will have to pay with CS pets, C$, dA points, or something else of the artist's choosing. Any artist has the right to raise or lower their prices as please, or to refuse any order for any reason!

C U S T O M . P A Y M E N T ;

Each artist will have their own payment method, listed here. Please be sure you can pay for a custom before you order one!

• vee. - closed.

C U S T O M . R U L E S

1. Different horns/tails/features CAN be added to your custom, but depending on the artist, there might be a small extra fee.
2. You CAN offer multiple different ideas for the artist to choose from- for example, list three different color palettes you like and ask the artist to choose one they feel they can work with. You still only get one custom per opening though, this doesn't mean you can get multiple customs at once!
3. You CAN'T ask the artist to just "design anything!" for you. If you are ordering a custom, you must have some idea of what you want-- a color pallete and preferred markings, a reference image/description, or a prompt to go off.
4. Your custom CAN'T be a "mix between Anapsid 1 and Anapsid 2." That is a breeding, silly!
5. You CAN'T grab a custom slot for a friend. It must be for you!
6. Your custom CAN'T be colored to look like an existing character or your fursona. It must be an entirely new character!
7. Your custom CAN'T be colored like any existing CS pets.

C U S T O M . F O R M S ;

Please fill out this form and post it on the thread; the artist open for customs will go through and choose a certain number of correct forms-- they won't be first-come-first-serve, so just because you post first doesn't mean you're guaranteed a spot. This way, a ton more people will have a chance!
Remove any parentheses from the forms while you fill it out! Those are just there to help you understand (:

    Bad manners and disrespect are absolutely not allowed here. Please be kind to everyone! I want everyone to feel comfortable and safe being part of this community, and I will NOT tolerate any bullying or hurtful words. I want this species to start off with a friendly, inviting atmosphere and remain that way no matter how large it might grow in the future. I've seen many adoptable communities grow cliquey and snobby and just downright intimidating, and I will do all I can to ensure that this community does NOT go down that road. I strive for everyone to be welcome here and feel accepted; staff, owners, and non-owners alike will all be held to the same standard.

    If ANYONE is rude to you on this thread, sends you an unfriendly PM, makes you feel uncomfortable, unwelcome, or disrespected in any way, PLEASE contact Vee, and do not try to handle it yourself if you don't feel comfortable doing so. Even if it's not on this site, anyone being unkind in relation to this species will be reprimanded.

    Currently empty! Let's keep it that way! (:

    Users listed here are not allowed to post in the thread. Temporary blackisted members may not adopt any Anapsids during the time, but are permitted to own them if they have them already. Permanently blacklisted members may not adopt OR own any Anapsids, and if they have any, they may be taken away and re-homed depending on the offence.

    Users listed here will have one, two, or three x's listed next to their name, and sometimes will have a brief description of their offences, if necessary. If a user has three strikes, and they break another rule which gains them a fourth strike, they will be placed on the blacklist either temporarily or permanently.
