I Would Like To Adopt; Litter TwoUsername: Wolfnekku
Crate Number: 3
New Name: Tobiah (often called Toby)
Personality: An extremely friendly Karmal Bell, who is really kind and caring towards others. They would never walk past someone in trouble!
Other: Here I am again with the story writing!
Toby walked towards the pitiful howls that grew louder as it approached. Soon the young wolf pup came into view. The pup looked towards Toby and gave an small bark, it seemed glad to see someone, even if that someone was a weird brightly colored creature that made ringing sounds every time it moved.
Mum was wrong! Toby thought, remembering the earlier conversation.
Toby had heard a whimpering somewhere in the cliffs and had asked their mother if they could go help.
"That's a wolf pup! You can't go there, the wolf mother might be somewhere near and she'll tear you apart!"
"But it sounds like it's in pain and if the mother is somewhere near she would have helped it already!"
"No Tobiah, it's too dangerous."
But when has Tobiah stayed put in a situation like that? Never that's when! The minute their mother's attention turned to Toby's siblings, Toby had slipped out of the den area. Now they had finally found that poor little wolf puppy!
"It's alright, I'll help you," Toby whispered.
The wolf pup gave another whimper in reply. Toby circled round the sitting wolf, but they couldn't find anything wrong with it.
"Are you just lost? I can't help you with that," they murmur to themself while thinking of what to do.
I've come this far, I can't just give up now! The wolf gave another whimper, as if begging for them to stay.
Maybe I need to look closer. Toby walked closer to the pup, but this just seemed to scare it. The puppy flinched away and tried to get up to run away, but fell down. That's when Toby realized that its leg was trapped between the rocks. Its fluffy fur had been covering up that spot with the position it had been in.
"Poor you!"
This time Toby slowly inched closer, not wanting to startle the pup again. Once they got close enough they bent over and gently grabbed the pup's leg in their teeth. The wolf started whimpering louder than ever, but didn't move. Toby twisted the leg so that it was in a different position. After that they could tug the leg out of the hole easily.
"You're free!" Toby exclaimed and bounced up and down in excitement.
However the pup didn't seem to realize that it was free, and scared out of its wits by the yelling and jumping as well as by Toby's bell that rang loudly every time they jumped. Its whimpering turned into yelping. Unfortunately for Toby, the yelping attracts the attention of the long awaited mother. A loud growl rises from behind some rocks. Turns out she was coming to help her pup after all.
Toby, calm down. You helped the puppy, the mother will understand. The only reason wolves still chase you after these situations is because you run away. They're a predator, so their natural instinct is to run after you, right? Despite Toby telling itself this multiple times, they still almost bolt away when the mother comes into view. Whilst the pup was smaller than Toby, the mother definitely is not!
I've never seen a wolf this close before... But there's no need to fear! I helped the pup, it won't hurt me!"Glad to see you're here to take your pup home," Toby says to the wolf, trying to make themself less afraid.
Bad move. The mother, who previously been sniffing her puppy in a worried way, completely oblivious to Tobiah, now turns her attention to them.
She instantly lunges toward Toby, who dodges just in time.
"I saved your pup!" Toby shouts desperately as the wolf pads closer, getting ready for another attack.
Toby utters a shriek of terror and flees.
It's chasing me! I can feel it getting closer! Toby's thoughts were correct, the wolf was getting closer. So close in fact, that it could reach forward and attack Toby, which it did. Toby felt sharp teeth pierce the skin on his back leg as the wolf grabbed it in her huge jaws. She thrashed the helpless Karmal Bell in the air until she suddenly let go, making Toby fly through the air, only to hit a large rock and plummet down to the ground in a painful experience. Terror was the only thing that allowed it to get up and run. Sometimes terror is good, like in that case, Toby would be dead for sure unless terror had taken over his mind. But whilst it can help, terror also makes you completely blind to your surroundings. That was true too in this case. Toby ran, but they didn't look where. They tumbled straight over a steep decline. Toby only had time to see the wolf stare over them from the top of the cliff before they hit the ground.
Bruised, battered and bleeding from their back leg, Toby gets up.
The wolf, it's gone, is the only thing that their drowsy mind could come up with. After a while they've gathered enough consciousness to place together the missing pieces.
I must have fainted... But the wolf! It's gone! I'm safe! I should go home now. Despite being hurt all over, Toby didn't really feel the pain, it was more of a distant numbing feeling, than the flashing, burning sensation that it usually is. It could have been because of the shock, because they bumped their head or because they were too tired to care about anything other than going home. It might have even been a combination of all the above, who knows?
Even though the only thing Toby could think of was going home, there was something different about the forest to them. They jumped at every shadow, every creak and noise. It wasn't that they was afraid, they were pass that. They wouldn't have cared or reacted in the slightest had that wolf returned and jumped right in front of them. It was more that he expected the worst from everyone around them. The forest and the creatures in it were threats not friends.
Approaching the den area Toby could hear happy laughter coming from their siblings and their mother.
They didn't even notice I was gone! Rage fills his mind.
How dare they!"Toby! What happened!" is what their mother gasps when they see Toby.
You're just acting! You don't really care! It's just false pretenses when I'm here, I heard you laughing a minute ago!"I'm fine! Just had an accident falling off a tree branch. The branches scratched my leg," Toby snaps.
They don't deserve the truth. I'd only get told off on top of it all. Toby pushes past his mother into the den. They hear somewhat worried chattering from outside the den.
Leave me alone! I don't care anymore! They shriek inside their head.
Nobody really cares, everyone's two-faced and nothing more beneath the surface! I just want to be by myself.Toby never realized what truly happened to them that day. It was too much for their young mind to understand or realize. They were too hurt inside to see, to deeply in pain to truly comprehend it, but that was the day they lost trust in everyone. They had always believed that at the end everyone is good and that doing a good deed will always result in something good back. When the mother wolf had attacked them all that had gone, leaving only bitterness and a hurt rooted deep inside their heart. It was too overwhelming for them to make out at all. But memories and experiences fade through time. Even though feelings and emotions are stronger than that, they fade too. Even when only a day had gone Toby was much closer to their true self. Slowly they lost the bitterness and hurt. Their life turned back towards what it once was. Others became sympathetic and loving companions to them, not deceptive creatures full of lies. But despite all that there was still something stuck in their heart. Because the thing is, while experiences do fade, the never
disappear.
I was going to make the story a short one, and didn't realize it had become so long! Hopefully it wasn't too much to read through!
Here's a picture I drew about the moment when Tobiah was with the wolf pup! (Please excuse the wrong shades of red, I didn't have a dark red pencil, so I had to try adding black on top of it, but it was hard to get more than one shade of dark red with it. All my pencils were all pinkish red too. I tried my best with the pencils I had!)
