I again got into my truck to drive to Unwavering, Bickslow sitting in the passenger seat. We begin the four and a half hour drive to Gator’s breeding kennel. We’re going to pick up my second Mudi, Freed. He’s a grey male with a white chest. We stop at a gas station about an hour in to let Bickslow pee and for me to pick up some snacks. I open a bottle of water and pour it into a bowl, which my show dog laps eagerly at. She looks up at me, tail wagging and tongue lolling as I pull out a pack of jerky and share a tiny bit with her. We get back into the car and set off again.
We drive for another two hours before Bickslow starts getting antsy again. I pull into a rest stop and let her out to relieve herself and stretch. We run around for a little before getting back into the car. The last hour goes without any incidents and we get to Unwavering, Bickslow practically dancing with excitement. I let her out off of the leash to run free, she and Kitty, the albino from before, sniff each other ecstatically and then run off. Gator comes out with Freed on a leash, he walks elegantly towards me and Gator hands over the leash.
“He can't stand small children.” she informs me.
“No children under the age of 13 are allowed at my barn and kennel.” I reply confidently, “Can’t stand ‘em either.”
The grey mudi sits regally at my feet, head helm high, I call loudly for Bickslow and she comes running, I clip the leash onto her and load both dogs into the truck before waving at Gator and Kitty, who whines with disappointment as we leave. The drive home is uneventful, same amount of stops as on the way there.
When we get back, Freed steps carefully down and Bickslow leaps out. The two sniff each other’s bums before Freed walks away, as Bickslow isn’t currently in heat. I lead them both to the house and they go inside, Bickslow almost sighs and Freed walks in without a single problem. I shut the door and go to file Freed’s papers in with Bickslow’s after I unclip the leashes.
