Yush! Qwerty, what about sperm bank and lent mothers? I thought of it for my species, because it bugs me seeing mxm and fxf couples having babies that mix traits. Basically the pups have traits of one or another parent, and the others are (a) random or (b) from another pallio of the opposite gender--with permission, of course.

Hmm, well I dunno about sperm banks because canonically speaking, the pallio world is not advanced enough for that type of technology (I also feel like it'd be a hassle to deal with and set up). Pallio world is set in a medieval-ish sorta era. Probably a more likely thing is surrogate parents of sorts. Basically, if people want, they can get a third pallio to be a mom/dad (they'd need to get a user's permission, of course), and the resulting pup will go to the couple who requested the breeding. Pups will have traits of one of the requesting pallio, and the surrogate.

Okay, I think I need to think about this more. I don't want things to be too complicated though, I want the whole process to be painless and fairly simple.

Gonna wait for more input from people. You guys can post here or PM me on how you think same sex breedings should work. I won't be making the nursery until I know how I'm gonna handle things.

Ah, glad you think so. Been trying to settle on how I'm gonna make this nursery work. So far this is what I've got:

- Male/Female (anatomically speaking) pairs will be treated like a normal breeding. (I think I might have to do a test breeding, I've never created a design based on a pairing before. )

- Same sex pairs can either adopt (Owners will give me some traits they're looking for, then I'll design the rest. Pups will also share at least one trait w/ one parent) or go the surrogate route w/ a third pallio of the opposite sex. Owners will decide who's gonna be mom/dad and I'll breed accordingly.

- I'm thinking of having breedings always resulting in 1 or 2 pups. I'll let the users decide whether they want 1 or 2.

- Pups may be kept by the owners, gifted to a user (must not have max limit of pallios, obviously), or put up for adoption. If going the adoption route, I'll let the owners decide how they want to deal with that. As the pups are their pallio's kids, I'd assume they'd want control over where it goes.

Again, if anyone has any feedback, please post or PM! Not many of you guys have responded thus far, so I just want to know if it's worth making the nursery at this point.

Not sure if I should go pup->teen->adult or just pup->adult. Hmm. I need some input from ya'll on this. Pup->teen->adult is more realistic, but it's a longer wait time and is more work for the artists. Pup->Adult is a lot faster in making things progress. It's also not like people can't RP their pallios are kids/teens already anyways. Younger pallios just have a smaller cape is all (and are less fluffy if they've got a mane and stuff).

As for the aging thing, I personally would prefer pup --> adult just for speed and ease. I feel like sometimes teen aging a are unnecessary because, like you said, owners can just role-play their pups as growing up and all that jazz. But I dunno, whatever everyone else thinks is best~

Also the artists may forget to age them if the aging is so far apart time-wise

Mm, I'm glad some of you like the pup->adult route. I feel like having the teen phase in between just creates unnecessary work. Probs gonna go that route then. And again, it's not like you guys can't RP your pallios as teens/pups already.

Now, to think of how to handle breeding genetic stuff.

We can go the realism route, where a white pallio x black pallio would result in either white or black pups. Basically, it follows real life genetics, except it won't be completely realistic since it may be hard having to figure out how to deal with all the markings and such.

Another route we can go is something I call "sparkledog genetics". Basically, in a white x black pallio breeding, we'd get pups that come in diff shades of gray. If you've ever played a pet site that had breeding (Wajas, Flight Rising, etc.), the mechanics will be similar to that. For markings, I dunno. I'll figure it out.

Gonna try doing some test breedings later so I can figure out how to deal with genetics and so you guys can get a visual on how breeding works. I'll be creating new pallios rather than breeding existing ones, so I'll probs end up putting the family up for a special adoption of sorts.

For breeding rules, so far I have this:

- Pallios may breed 2 months after being adopted. This is so peeps won't just adopt a pallio and then just breed them right away. Not sure on 2 months though.
- Max of 3 breedings per pallio
- Any pallio can breed as long as they're not related
- A user can only breed a pallio once a month
- Must have permission from all users to breed, assuming the pallios belong to diff people.

One thing I gotta figure out is whether I should let pallios have one mate and can only breed w/ them or have them just breed w/ whoever. Also, if you guys have suggestions for some rules, please tell me! I want to get everything covered now so I don't need to deal with it later. What things do you, the pallio owner, want to know before you breed your pallio?

Oh yeah, gonna up the ownership limit to 4 now, by the way, since we got a nursery coming up in the future. Not sure if I'll up it again, but we'll see. Won't be anytime soon though.

are you going to make the growths yourself?

i'd imagine it would be a bit smoother to make default pup lines for the design of the pallio
then, you might be able to have artists grow pups with the default adult lines as well, to take some work off your hands
