Quipping Guides
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Equid patterning, known as quipping, comes in a variety of classifications, with each equid typically displaying only one type.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Theme Equids
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Theme equids are equids that have patterning that following a theme, such as other animals, plants, colours, etc. They usually appear in sets of 6 but can occur in more or less.
Theme equids include:
- Lilyquids
- Breedquids
- Cowquids
- Mothquids
This is not a complete list, if an equid is part of a theme it will say so on the adoption page.
Theme Equid Breeding Rules: - The trait special to the theme cannot be passed down (eg. a baby from a lily-quid will not have a lily patterns but may have filled quip)
- Theme equids cannot breed together

Special Equids
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Special equids are equids that have different kind of patterning. This patterning is subject to restrictions when breeding, meaning only some or none of the special traits can be passed down.
Appaloosa EquidsAppaloosa equids feature spots in the same patterns as domestic horses as well as quipping.
Appaloosa Equid Breeding Rules:- Appaloosa equids are sterile and cannot breed.
Chimeric EquidsChimera equids display two sets of genes that result in a mixture of two different coat colours and quipping patterns.
Chimera Equid Breeding Rules - Foals will only display traits from one set of genetics.
- You can request which colour gets part down as a trait request
Somatic EquidsSomatic is where a gene switches off in an equid, this can be localised or throughout in various patterns. Bloody shoulder, grease spots and birdcatcher spots are examples of somatic mutations.
Somatic Equid Breeding Rules - Foals will not inherit the trait.
- These traits now count as special when ordering customs

Event Equids
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Event equids are based on specific events, such as the winter holidays, Valentines, Halloween, etc.
Event equids include:
- Dragon equids (can breed dragon equids between the 1st January - 31st January)
- Valentines equids (can breed valentines equids between 1st February and 28th January)
- Winter equids (can breed winter equids between 1st November and 31st December)
Dragon EquidsDragon equids have patterning like Asian dragons. They have darker regular quipping on the body and either a white or black whisker marking that runs down the body. They have dappled on their body that resembles scales and have brighter, more saturated fur. They can also display blues and reds in their mane, tail and body fur.
Dragon Equid Breeding Rules:- Dragon equids can breed all year round but will only dragon babies when bred between the 1st January and 31st January.
- Foals born outside January cannot inherit the whisker or the bright, saturated body colours. Blues will be grey in foals and reds will be chestnut.
- Dragon equids cannot breed with other dragon equids.
Valentines EquidsValentines equids are the only equids that have pink in the manes and are typically in lighter shades however they can also appear as chocolate themed or singles awareness day themed.
Valentines Equid Breeding Rules- Valentines equids can only pass on valentines traits when bred between the 1st February and the 28th February.
- Regular foals will display the pinks as grey, chestnut or cream.
- Valentines Equids cannot breed with other Valentines Equids
Skeleton EquidsSkeleton equids, as the name suggests, have skeleton patterns caused by a combination of quipping and paint markings. These can appear as any animal skeleton but typically manifest as a horse skeleton. These equids are more likely to have red eyes and darker base coats.
Skeleton breeding rules- Skeletons equids cannot breed together.
- Skeleton equids can only pass on Skeleton traits when bred between the 1st October and the 31st October.
- When skeleton equids breed with regular equids the skeleton will be less prominent (referred to as half skeleton) except when bred in October. In October a single skeleton parent will make a full skeleton baby.
Winter/Holiday EquidsWinter/holiday equids first appeared in a raffle in 2024, they have now become their own theme. Winter equids have winter themed quipping, either snowflake, frost, etc.
Winter/Holiday breeding rules- Winter/Holiday equids cannot breed together.
- Winter/Holiday equids can only pass on their winter traits when bred between the 1st November and the 31st December.
