Story writing
Write a short story (3 -6 paragraphs, each paragraph is 4-8 sentences) about how your piggle celebrated new years.

Trying my hand at this! (Parker isn't anthropomorphic, FYI, he's used as a regular pig[gle] in a world of humans.)

Parker seldom stayed inside his house at night. Today was no different. With his bat fluttering above him and his spider standing on his back, he wandered the streets, the moon illuminating the world. Not that he needed it. His vision had long adjusted to moonless nights. As the moon rose higher in the sky and Sneaker crawled further atop his head, lights turning on suddenly blinded the poor Piggle.

He made a grunt of shock; if he spoke, he probably would have cursed then. Midnight, his pet, squeaked, causing Parker to realise that light was unpleasant for the bat. Pets and owner hissed, and the latter bolted into a cave at the opening of a nearby forest. Long had he noticed that bears and other such creatures had not inhabited it for a while, only the bats.

When they reached the safety of the cave, Midnight fluttered to the ceiling and curled up, not asleep but waiting for the light to fade. While it did this, Parker occupied himself glancing outside. A loud, collective shout sounded: "Happy new year!" So it was a new year. He owned not a calendar, so he had not known, but now he did. He pondered this for a while - a new year. Why did they celebrate this? It was no special milestone, unless humans had a tradition he did not know of, but he had heard of no such thing. Maybe it was because they found a new year a new start.

A new start. He found the idea to his liking. There were many things in his life he liked, but many other things he did not. He would enjoy letting go of past troubles. With a voice hoarse and soft from disuse, he whispered, "Happy new year indeed." He spoke little, including the language of the Piggles, and as such he could only slightly grasp the concept of what he had just said. But he knew in his heart that a new year equalled a new start.
