Silverpaw returned with the marigold. She put it with the other scraps and went outside.

"Ok!" Marshfoot meowed. "Ready, set, go!" Marshfoot sprinted towards the direction of the big boulder. Paws thumping on the grassy forest floor, she hared pass two trees, determined to beat Maplefeather.

Maplefeather sprinted off, he look long jumps between paw steps, catching up fast. He narrowed himself to go a bit faster.

Sprinting off between two ferns, Marshfoot spotted a narrow gap between dead brambles. Yes! A shortcut! She thought. Diving between the spikey tendrils, she dug her claws into the grass, only to find herself trapped in the brambles. Her tail stung with pain as the brambles clawed her fur.

Maplefeather ran past the brambles, not knowing that Marshfoot was caught. He ran a bit faster, halfway there.

Struggling and spitting, Marshfoot pulled free, only to find a chunk of fur missing from her tail. Her pelt was scratched and tufted in different places and her nose stung like fury. "Maplefeather! Wait!" She cried. The scent of blood was in the air.
