Tigerstep stared, stupefied, as Bounce boldly announced her intentions. Joining the Clan? The medicine cat found himself unable to comprehend it all. Bounce? Joining the Clan? His stare faltered, emotions conflicted. If this were several moons ago, he would have been joyful. In fact, he had encouraged Bounce to join the Clan so long ago, but she had stoutly refused, stating that she was unwilling to leave her companion behind. So why now? It must definitely be the kits. "Joining the Clan," he repeated, studying Bounce. "And why have you decided to join? We don't take in loners freely, you know." He inwardly cringed at the harshness of his words, but he had to maintain a wary exterior. If he had acted any less fierce, then Rosepaw would definitely suspect something, even if she was as naive and dumb as she was. Tigerstep glanced behind Bounce's shoulder at another she-cat. Maggie. Was this the companion Bounce talked about?─────────────────────

He watched with disbelief and embarrassment as Rosepaw naively bounced forward. He held his tongue back, not wishing to embarrass his apprentice before strangers. But he glared disapprovingly at Rosepaw. How could a Clan cat be so welcoming of loners and oblivious to any dangers they could pose? Well, of course Tigerstep knew that Bounce meant no harm. But Rosepaw didn't! His ears twitched, curious, as Rosepaw asked Bounce how far along was he. There was no doubt as to who the father was, right? His heart filled with dread. How could he take back this loner who was pregnant with his kits? The whole Clan would know of his betrayal! Would Leafstar demote him? Or allow him to continue being a medicine cat underneath a stigma of shame? Tigerstep glared at Rosepaw, though he could not find a good reply.
Ah, so it was confirmed. The identity of the father. Cold claws gripped at his heart, filling his body from nose to tail tip with an ominous feeling. What was he supposed to do now? Of course, he ached to bring Bounce back to safety, but what would the Clan think? He wouldn't declare his sins, but he knew that they would eventually find out. Especially if the kits ended up looking like him. But...to leave Bounce out here was cruel. And what of the kits? If these kits were truly his, then how could he cast them away? "Very well," he mewed finally, staring at Bounce with an unreadable expression. "Let's go, Rosepaw," he called to his apprentice, flicking his tail. "I'll let you have some time to say goodbye to your companion," he told Bounce. "I'll be waiting just ahead." He gestured with his tail to the other side of the clearing, towards the direction of camp.

There it was! Right there!
Yes, Emberpaw could see it now. The mottled she-cat could make out the squirrel's ever so fluffy tail and rounded quarters, the rest of its body hidden by tall strands of grass. Emberpaw could feel excitement twitch in her paws. She had never caught a squirrel before, after all. The last time she had been out hunting with her mentor, Mousefur, she had just missed the stupid creature. Her pride, as a result, was a bit damaged. For as long as she had been an apprentice (exactly two moons), Emberpaw had been acknowledged as one of the better hunters. She brought back enough prey to challenge the older apprentices, and her techniques were almost flawless.
Almost. The wretched squirrel just had to prove her wrong.
So, that's why Emberpaw wasn't going to let this creature escape. 'Tail still,' she reminded herself. Her pink nose twitched and her whiskers laid erect against the wind. Yes, this was perfect! She was downwind; the squirrel would never be able to scent her now. 'Just a little more...' Emberpaw crept closer and closer to the squirrel, avoiding the patches of yellowed, crunchy leaves. The foolish squirrel remained oblivious to its inevitable death as it examined a particularly nice acorn.
'Now!'
"What -" Emberpaw gasped incoherently as a weight flung itself on her. Her yellow eyes widened in startled. What was happening? Her mind scrambled, unable to comprehend. 'Am I being attacked?' she panicked to herself. But a laugh registered in her ears, and her eyesight cleared just in time to see her friend's fluffy white tail trail out of the den's entrance. "Cottonpaw!" she cried out after her friend, forgetting the fact that other apprentices may still be sleeping. "I'm going to shred your tail!" she threatened Cottonpaw, scrambling to her paws. Her limbs ached from behind folded underneath her body weight for the whole night, but that didn't stop the mottled she-cat from bolting out of the den.
She exploded into the camp clearing, bits of moss and bedding hanging off of her long fur. 'Where is she?' she thought to herself, looking around camp with widened, alert yellow eyes. "You can't hide from me," Emberpaw threatened, still surveying the camp. Cats were already awake, and Emberpaw was slightly aware of the fact that several may be staring at her as if she had grown a third tail. Hopefully she hadn't roused any of them, but she seriously doubted that she had. Where was Cottonpaw? Ah! 'If I were Cottonpaw, I know where I would hide.' Ha, Cottonpaw was in trouble now!
As silently as she could manage, Emberpaw approached the warriors' den. Cottonpaw was certainly not gutsy enough to hide inside the den, but enough to hide near it. Ha, did Cottonpaw think that a warriors' den could scare her off of revenge? Ridiculous! Emberpaw's ears swiveled at the huffing and puffing of suppressed laughter, and she knew that she had her prey cornered. Not unlike how she would stalk prey, Emberpaw approached the rock and bunched up her muscles, springing over the medium sized boulder and onto her fluffy companion. "Got'cha!" she laughed victoriously.
