also, what's everyone doing for nanowrimo? im doing a partnered piece this year, and we're both really busy so we're aiming low with 30K between the two of us, so im hoping it pans out.

Hopefully I'll be starting my zombie apocalypse fan-fiction of 'World War Z', but I'm still not 100% sure. It'll be either that, or continuing my elf story (it's only got about 2k words on it, and I believe the story will be long enough to get to at least 60k!). I'm hoping to reach at least 45k, 50k would be preferred, but you never know what might happen in between!

Hmm... be careful with that. Especially if they're asking for any money. There are a lot of scammers out there who promise stuff like that. It seems highly unlikely that a real publishing company would promise something like that to a new writer without seeing an actual complete manuscript. After all, publishing companies get plenty of submissions from would-be authors; it's not like they have to go out looking for talent. They get dozens, if not hundreds of submissions everyday.

I'd be suspicious if I were you, and if they ask for any money walk away.

EDIT: As for the NaNo question, I'm aiming for 50k. I've got the time... not sure if I have the drive. I guess we'll see. ^^

ah,, thank you for your concern,, but they are legit. my parents queried about it and then they checked pretty much everything. they are only an independent amateur publisher [so my story would not be very widely distributed, but hey,, it's somewhere to start i guess], and we've seen books that they've published [i own three of them myself,, all written by local people that i know personally]. but i know what you mean by being careful. thank you c:

hungrily awaiting the sun to complete it's slow decent below the horizion, hoping desperaty to claim another lost
and lonley soul.

I close my eyes, my will broken, alost as if I expected that this horror story would fade away back into the reality I
knew so well. My bedroom, with peeling blue wallpaper with patches of mould up near the weather wornwindows. The oaken
rim around them shimmering in the warm glow from the sunlight and the rickety desk, sitting in the corner pilled high
with stacks of notes and books. I reopen my eyes and stare blnkly down the seemingly infinante plateu of ice.
The moon silhouettes my body onto the cool ground, my shadow copying my every move, like some sort of creepy puppet
dance. I rise back onto my feet, hpoing to bring some amount of warmth into my long frozen joints. My shadow follows me as
I begin to walk into nihility, I drag my tired feet across the ground, the physical exersion and the glacial temperature
getting to me. My eyes sting and my entire body is racked with pain with every step I take. I breath through my nose, in
fear that opening my mouth will burn my lungs and freeze my throat. I look back up at the horizon, the sun now barley
visable above the skyline. I fold my arms over my hest in a feeble attempt to store body heat. My mind, which would
usually be buzzing with questions and confusion, reains quiet, offering no encouragment or help. How I got here, is to
much for my brain to even attempt to guess, but I am here... Dying, and that, for now, is all I need to know. My eyes
remain staring dead ahead, from both being painful for me to move them and fear that the now ful moon will absorb my soul
as I lay motionless on the ice. I swallow hard and my throat burns from the lack of liquid, I feel like death wouldn't be
the worst option at the moment, but the few memories I have, and the fact that everything exepct my brain is telling me
to keep going, is enough to force me forwards, even besides the pain.

This is how people are driven mad isn't it? I think to myself, isolation, starvation, dehydration and a constant echo of
screams bounding through your head... Wonderful. Now the fact that I am convinced that I am going mad, I actually might
start to lose my sanity. And to think I was such an obsessionist of Antarctica. Ha, welcome to paradise!

***
My breathing begins to sound shaky and rough and my arms are practically frozen together at this point. If I could descibe
any place on Earth as Hell... This would most definitly be it. the moon seemingly dances mockingly in front of my face, as
if to tease me. It's practically saying: "you can see me, but you'll never catch me." A sudden gust of frosty wind blows
over me, as if Antarctica was trying to embrace me, and not in a friendly way. The sun had encouraged me to move on, how
stupid I felt to trust the sun. I could picture it laughing at me now, teasing about what a waste of time it had been since
the moon was basicaly luring me into a frozen death bed. I think I just personified the sun and moon... Maybe I'm already
insane? The blat of frozen air stings my incovered face and my stomach lurches with every individual step I take. My
breathing worsens and the air around me seems to suddenly turn solid and unbreathable. I struggle to catch my now
excruciatingly painful breathing.

any clues where I should go with this? I may give prize to best idea... maybe))

Well then that's fantastic! You always have to be careful regardless. I get so mad when I hear about writers and other creative people getting scammed - creative people already have a hard enough time in this world. But if it's legit, then that's really great! ^^ Especially with your own artwork! As for which you should work on - focus on the story you feel the most passionate about. One you can see yourself being able to work on weeks and months, possibly years from now and won't want to give up on. The one that's the most interesting and personal to you. Best of luck!

How does this sound?

The real definition of death isn't this: the action or fact of dying or being killed; the end of the life of a person or organism.
In my opinion it's more along the lines of this: A state of mind caused by disfunction of physical form; often the person or thing in question has been driven j to nothing but a mindless soul, drifting around in their own head aimlessly.
I'm not a very optimistic person.

I've got a question c:

Code: Select all
Does anyone here write for a living? And if you do, do you treat it as a normal job?

I'm gonna answer this for my mother, because it's not my job xc. Yes, she treats it like a 9-5 job, sits down each day and writes, although she carries in thinking about it at other times. cx.

Hi okay so this is a excerpt of something I'm writing. Curious as to whether its written decently and flows good? You won't understand whats going on, sorry, but I'm just looking for a nice grammar check.

I gripped the wooden chair in front of me, ignoring the splinters jabbing into my hand. Up ahead was my worst nightmare, staring down from the old stage and repeating my name into the microphone. She was everyone's, actually. A symbol of our awful futures to come.

"Sadie?" She let out a coughing noise, and flung her black hair behind her shoulder. I wanted to make myself known, raise my hand or simply mutter a 'here'. Somehow, though, I could not. My lips did not want to move, and the person beside me gave me a concerned glance.

She poked my arm with her finger, prodding me to come out of my deep thought. "Sadie?" This time it was her, not the lady on stage, who was getting madder by the second. I winced as she screamed a "I know you're here!" And gave the girl a apologetic look. Finally finding my voice, I informed her that everything was okay. I would announce myself soon. But I did not, and so she raised her hand and jumped, catching the attention of everyone.

"Mrs. Zola! The one you want is right here." She made a big show of gesturing to me, and the woman practically sprinted over and gave her a pat on the head. "Swell Job, Kayla." However, before I could make a excuse for my behavior, I was being dragged out of the auditorium, in front of everyone, her nails now slicing into my skin instead of wooden splinters. As we moved, eroding flakes of iron danced down from the ceiling, coating the floor and making it hard for me not to cough or slip.

"Do you think we could slow down?" I asked, "Wherever we're going can wait, can it not?" Instead of a comforting, 'yes, you're right' or 'Of course, child' I got her hand-print on my cheek and a stern scolding. I couldn't say I was surprised, abuse here was common, but it didn't stop a tear from dripping down my face. I just wanted to be home. Home with my brother and father. But I had reached the age of eleven, and that meant suffering from here on out. My life was officially beginning to end.

Where could I add in detail so you could better visualize? Any place confusing and hard to comprehend? Suggestions? Thanks!
