It's inconsequential by now, really. It's not exactly an original or copy-right-able thing, really. It's been done before in official, for profit things like Okami [Amaterasu] and Pokemon [Smeargle].
I'm gonna assume you didn't experience The Fiasco of A Day or Two Ago. XD

Basically what Binks said! I know of at least two other adopt species on CS with paint tails, and a ton more individual characters with it. I've actually not heard of that species before you just mentioned it. Not to mention, like Binks said, there are official characters with paint tails!
