Hey guys! Well, Skely, the Koi I rescued is starting to fatten up nicely. However, he is only eating from the bottom of the tank, so I can't put him in the pond quite yet. With my other Koi and Goldfish, Skely will starve if he won't come up for food. How can I teach him to come up for food?

Just keep feeding from the top. xD
I bet when he gets fatter, stronger, and healthier, he'll start learning that the top means more food.

Been a loooong time since I posted here! Well I am trying to re-home my three goldfish they are just eating everything in my dads big tank so now they are in one of mine I am thinking of bringing them to petco or petsmart. I am down to just two bettas and a boatload of guppies still I will be putting african chiclids in my 45 gallon once I fix the light situation.
mods me and Simple Serenity are bffs in real-life and we sometimes log-on from each-others computers i used to be astrosaur now i am dark dragon please dont steal!

He's probably just used to not being able to compete at the top, so he searches along the bottom. ^^

it may also be instinct, in the wild carp(the koi's wild ancestor) is a bottom-feeder, sifting through silt and mud in search of bugs and mollusks.

Also, I am surprised he has lived this long, he looked awful and on his last leg. good luck with him!

Ugh ! I hate pet stores ! So today I was at Wal-Mart and I was going to get my dog some food. I walked by the fish and couldn't help looking at the pretty butterfly koi. There were three of them about 2.5 ~3 in. in a ten gallon. Which is actually quite reasonable for a store. Anyway I couldn't help looking at the smallest fish in the tank. He was about 2 in and orange. He was skinny (I could faintly see his ribs and spine ) and had no tail! He just sort of floated near the front of the tank . Its almost as if he was asking someone to save him. I have a tropical tank so I couldn't keep him... I do know of a nearby pond though....it's rather small... maybe 150 gal of pond ? I just feel bad or the fish having to suffer like that..he could barely swim the poor thing.

Personally, I don't think Walmart should be lumped into "pet stores".

Most real pet stores are very good at taking care of their stock.
