it would be an understatement to say that penelope got everything that she wished for. when in reality she got everything. ever since she was a child her favorite identical toys piled on top of each other as the young girl quickly became bored of this color or that incantation. her parents always made sure that pepper was being spoiled rotten. and that might not have been so bad if the gryffindor knew how it felt to not get what she wanted. but in the turn of events she was to find out on the hallowe'en feast of her sixth year in hogwarts the school for witchraft and wizardry.
she was seating next to new friend and house mate, arielle from beauxbatons. she had just finished the last of her self-served courses and was gobbling down the pumpkin juice left in her goblet. "when i get chosen you'll root for me, yeah?" she asked looking at the exchange student with a glimmer of hope in her eyes and her wide stretched smile. as self-centered and arrogant pepper was she was benevolent in the same amount.
when pepper wrote down her name on a piece of parchment and put it in the goblet of fire she only did it because she knew thought that the goblet would choose her. that night she walked into the great hall even more confident than usual, expecting nothing else but 'penelope paisley' to be read out loud. she was far from nervous or anxious, she was just excited to become part of this adventure.. and to have her name remembered, that promised glory and fame didn't sound bad at all. when the headmaster announced dakota o'malley to be the first champion of beauxbaton, pepper assessed her rival's skills. pretty, has twin brother, ravenclaw so smart, but not exceptionally strong, brain over brawl that girl is. a long list formed in her head separating the girl's strength and weaknesses, and if it wasn't for the second wave of applauds and the loud sighs of disappointment that came from her house's table she wouldn't have heard the ravenclaw boy being called over.
a flush of anger, jealousy and disappointed washed over her until she was drowning as arielle stepped up and left to join the headmaster with the two other students. when elle first came to hogwarts and was sorted to gryffindor, pepper took her under her wing, showing her the ropes of the school and along with one other ravenclaw, davey, together they ran hogwarts, or so pepper liked to think. and now, now, this just won't do. it was practically a stab in the back, not like the girl knew she was going to be chosen and her hogwarts counterpart will not, but in pepper's eyes this was ultimate betrayal. but still a smug smile on her face she applauded and cheered for her 'friend' as she got up and walked away from her, leaving her on the bench alone with the rest of their house.
"i wouldn't give her more than forty five minutes in the first task" she commented, a bit cruelly if she will as she looked to her right to see harley, a hogwarts gryffindor sitting next to her. at first she wanted him to hear her, but then realizing it might turn into a problem she shut her yap and picked a pumpkin cupcake from the tower in front of her and stuffed her in her mouth.
