Why I Want Her
Lorena reminds me of why I began to love horses in the first place. She is beautiful just like every horse and she looks like an appaloosa to me which is my favorite breed of horse along with the other ones listed above. Her structure is just perfect and if I had a real horse I would want her or him to look like Lorena. Her design is unique and simple which I love and it contains natural colors which I also like since I don't usually go for characters with bright colors and crazy designs so i think Lorena is the perfect match for me. Also I'd just like to add that this is the first time I have actually wanted a character this bad and have actually went through a whole background story/plot for one and I really would love to bring Lorena into my family I think she is perfect for me and she reminds me of....well...me
Personality
Lorena may seem fierce but she is actually quite kind and gentle. Her soft heart reaches out to others and her presence almost seems to calm those that she is around. Lorena is rarely angered and when she is it seems as if she is an entirely different horse. Lorena is quite intelligent and is always thinking of new strategies to outdo the other horses around her. She may seem quiet and boring but she actually is a lot of fun and loves playing around although she always puts her priorities first.

Background
Lorena was abandoned hours after birth for her weak and premature state by her careless and dangerous birth herd, Wild Souls. Her birth herd was known for their rowdy ways of escaping from cowboys and injuring many herds. The lead stallion is hardly ever challenged but if it does happen the opponent usually winds up dead or on the verge of death. It seemed to be a miracle for gentle Lorena to have been found by a much kinder herd not moments later. They were known widely as Twilight Stars.
Lorena was taken in by a nursing mare who had lost her calf to the Wild Souls. Lorena was not taken to kindly at first but when the other horses began to notice her gentle and shy nature she became the center of attention. Other foals admired her and the mares adored her. Surprisingly enough Twilight Stars was not led by a stallion but a mare named Starshine. Her granddaughter Juno was the one who had raised Lorena back to health.
Twilight Stars was a small herd consisting of less than 20 horses and because of this they are a close knit family. Unlike most herds who don't take kindly to strangers Twilight Stars welcomed them and cared for them before sending the horses on their way again. Lorena watched her herd's teachings and ways and soon adapted to it. She was a gentle creature and soon became a teacher to the foals and lone horses. She taught them right from wrong, good from bad. Although Lorena was still young she is wise beyond her years and little did she know she had a great future ahead of her.
History
"She can hardly walk!"cried a one horse.
"She's worthless to us. Leave her." came a harsh voice.
Was that her mother? The filly looked up at the surrounding horses and whinnied pitifully. They only shook their heads in disgust and turned around, cantering off into the distance. How could they just leave me here? the filly thought with pain. She ran her tongue over the roof of her mouth. She was terribly thirsty and hungry and her stomach growled loudly. She struggled to stand up only to fall back down again. Why had her family left her? Was she really that useless?
A shadow cast over the filly's pitiful form and she looked up her large dark eyes fearful but there was no need to be. A different horse trotted up to the filly and licked her soothingly."Stand up sweetheart. It's alright. You're coming with us now." came a gentle soothing voice. It seemed to call to the small foal and she struggled to stand up finally managing to carry her weight on thin wobbly legs. The mare nudged her and the foal trotted after the nice horse who was trotting back to a small herd with nervous faces. Some of their voices carried out her.
"Are you sure this is the right thing to do Starshine?"
"What if they come back for her?"
"Don't let her near here! She is a Wild Soul!"
"What about my foal?! He won't be safe around her!"
The mare who had spoken to the small filly reared on her hindlegs and neighed for silence."Obviously they wouldn't have left her there if they were coming back for. Do not judge for you have not gotten to know her yet." the old mare said fiercely. The smally filly caught up with Starshine and pressed against her legs nervously. Her eyes were wild and looked around with fear and hunger.
A small mare stepped forward."I'll take care of this filly. I still have milk left." the mare spoke with a tinge of sadness creeping into her shy voice. Starshine nodded in approval."We will call this filly Lorena." Lorena wobbled over to the kind mare who she later on learned, went by the name of Juno. She suckled greedily till she was full not noticing the glares from the horses of Twilight Stars who were normally gentle and kind. Only fighting when needed and never the ones to judge. Until now.
And so began the days of Lorena's time as a mare of Twilight Stars.
On a sunny spring day as the weather was growing warmer there came the loud patter of hooves against dirt. The horses of Twilight Stars lifted their heads to see who it was. They figured it was just another herd passing through the pasture they grazed in but as the sound of hooves drew closer the outlines in the distance began to take shape. Ranglers. They were short on horses and they knew herds would be weak due to spring foals and so they cruelly used their weakness against them.
The head rangler stopped a couple yards from the small herd and eyes them carefully. Lorena stood frozen with fear. She snorted and pawed at the ground nervously. The cowboy smiled and gathered up his lasso, holding it high above his head. The others did the same and their horses charged forward with a kick to the gut.
Lorena's eyes widened. Her herd would be captured if they didn't do something fast! She looked around with wild brown eyes and realized it was too late. The rangers had the small herd surrounded and she reared as a rope wound around her neck and was tugged on, tightening its hold. She bucked with protest but this only choked her and she reluctantly stopped only neighing pitifully now. She noticed Starshine the old mare had been caught too. Practically the whole herd, no wait, the whole herd had been captured. When she caught Starshine's eye she gave her a questioning look.
"It's alright."said the mare calmly."I'm sure we will be safe."
Lorena nodded trusting her leader. The mares remained tense but didn't fight although Lorena couldn't say the same for the stallions. They were bucking furiously and she could see the sweat trickling down their necks and flanks. As the cowboys drew them in a tight group the ones behind Lorena began to move forward pushing the herd forward. This continued for what seemed to be hours till Lorena noticed a medium height wooden fence that linked together in a large circle. There was no sign of grass inside it. Were they planning on keeping them in there? How was her family supposed to feed when there was no food? So many questions kept popping into Lorena's head as she was herded into the corral with Twilight Stars.
Days passed and the humans only came to see the horses around feeding time. The stallions' failed attempts to escape had only gotten them lashings. The only other humans besides the rangers that visited were strangers and only stopped to stare at the horses and examine them individually for an hour or two before walking up to the lead cowboy and shaking their head before getting back on their horse or vehicle and riding off.
Apparently these people were customers here to buy them. Lorena had found this out from Windstreak who had been here twice before along with other older members of the herd. They had been released the other times since people found them too gentle and un-competative to compete in races or pull carts. Twilight Stars was too fragile and so they would be let go in hopes of them growing fierce our in the wilderness by themselves and were re-captured every couple of years. Lorena took this information in with growing interest and she began to study the humans with careful curiosity.
One day was different though. A young woman with dark brown hair and eyes and a gentle smile stopped by and studied the horses for a few hours. Lorena figured she would leave but surprisingly the woman just watched them till the man who had led the roundup walked up to her. They began to converse for quite some time and Lorena watched with curiosity as she saw the man's eyes go wide. He muttered something to himself then retreated into the large cabin.
After a few hours Lorena found herself riding in a large moving truck with windows where the horses could stick their heads out. She watched the road fly by and glanced at the other trucks in front and in back of her own. It turns out the woman had purchased all the horses for her rehabilitation ranch. These horses were gentle enough to be trained to let disabled children ride them and since this ranch was new the woman was in need of gentle horses and had just enough pocket money to purchase the entire herd. Twilight Stars went cheap since no one ever seemed to want to buy them.
Well at least she doesn't seem abusive, Lorena thought. She could tell the other horses didn't like this though unlike her. They would occasionally stomp their hooves and snort in protest or would sway their heads from side to side. They were uncomfortable around humans and though Lorena had to admit she was to it wasn't so bad as she thought it would be. One day passed of riding in the trucks and then they came to a spluttering halt around a large corral with lush green grass that the herd could pasture in. Ironically the ranch was named Twilight Stars which seemed like no coincidence to Lorena but only fate. The herd was led out of the trucks with sweet coaxing and some carrots and soon everyone was in the extremely large pasture.
The woman's ranch was also a rehabilitation ranch for abused horses who would be free to roam around out of harms way. Only the horses who seemed to like to be ridden would be working with the disabled children. Of course none of the stallions were chosen but Lorena was picked along with Starshine and several other mares and one or two foals who were young enough to be trained properly. Lorena quite enjoyed being ridden and the kids loved her gentle nature.
And so Lorena knew she and her herd would live happily at Twilight Stars Ranch.
I may have an alternate ending so this is still a major WIP.
(I will probably edit this later and make it better and more up to date)
Other
This story is a large WIP and once I have a couple more characters and possibly find or create a mate for Lorena her colt will have a major part in the story about the herd of Twilight Stars.

Awesome ^^
I have no real objections to it, but we may miss it when we gather forms, as the adoptions are technically still closed. Besides, there'll be a few more donations when the next round starts C; we'll try to do that by the end of the week.
