Is it the legend of Stiffy Green? if so:
Stiffy Green and John Heinl, the only florist in town, were almost inseperable. Stiffy would lie by John's bed while he slept at night. Stiffy was there the night John died. Many of the townsmen came, but the main mourner was Stiffy himself. John's relatives weren't sure what to do with him, so his cousin agreed to adopt Stiffy. But Stiffy would just keep coming back to his owner, no matter how securely he was tied to something. This happened until the cemetery workers set up a shelter for him and fed him. He stayed there until he died of old age. Now, after Stiffy was taxidermied and placed by his beloved owner, a worker heard some barking, and went to go chase the dog off. He didn't see a dog, but he did see a pair of ghostly figures, man and dog, strolling through the park. Many others have seen the pair since.
Was I right?
