ILLOOM ARTIST COMPETITION

Postby Nutheart » Tue Jul 01, 2014 10:42 am

THIS COMPETITION IS GETTING EXTENDED FOR AT LEAST 2 MORE WEEKS! TENTATIVE END DATE IS AUGUST 15.

Illooms wrote:First things first- What is an illoom?

Illooms were discovered on a far-away planet, one that grabbed explorers' interest due to the huge crystals covering its surface. The planet also possessed thick forests surrounding the crystals, and heavy cloud cover that blocked most of the sun's light, leaving the land in eternal twilight. The explorers went in to collect crystal samples...only to find odd creatures, roughly the size of great danes, living around the crystals. These creatures came to be called illooms.

Illooms have several distinctive features. They have large, batlike ears to collect sound. Their four eyes are extremely sensitive to light. They also have six limbs- four for running, and two for finer operations. The forelimbs are sometimes affectionately called "gem cutters." The gem cutters have several functions. The job they were named for is cutting out a den in the crystals, as illooms make their dens in them. Those single claws on the gem cutters are very sharp, so naturally they also make good weapons for bringing down prey. And if an illooms uses them with care, gem cutters can be used to lift things. An illoom's legs are strong, built for running after prey and climbing the mountains of crystal. The back legs have extra claws for both gripping at holds and striking out at anything that would attack from behind.

But one of the most distinctive features of the illoom earned the species its name. These are its crescent markings, which can be illuminated or dimmed at will. It was found that the crescents are used to communicate in a cote of flashes. Worst case scenario, the crescents can also all flash at once to startle and temporarily blind attackers.

Illooms are social creatures, living in small packs. A single pack will make their dens around a crystal mountain, and outsiders that attempt to move in will be chased off. They are curious souls who tried to get into the explorers' stuff every chance they got! They also seem rather intelligent, responding to human speech with crescent flashes. It is unknown if they truly understand the speech, however.

As illooms are a new species, they could use all the artistic help they can get!
So, as the owner, I'm opening up artists slots in a competition!
I will take 3 full-time artists, along with 3 guest artists. Guest artists may make five illooms, in addition to an optional custom for themselves. Artists may make unlimited illooms, along with a custom for themselves.

Some coloring tips before the main rules- The base color of an illooms tends to be the darkest, while the crescents, claws, and eyes (eye 2) tend to be brightest. Sometimes they will have crescents in different colors (such as alternating, but each individual crescent is one color). Illooms can have any range of pattern beyond that, so have fun!
Eye layers- Eyes (black, sometimes is colored) and Eye 2 (the eye color)
Crescent layers- Crescent Glow and Crescents will have matching colors. Crescent Light is left alone.

Rules
1. You may make unlimited entries.
2. You may choose to keep 1 entry as your custom (unless you want to make a new custom) IF YOU BECOME AN ARTIST OR GUEST ARTIST. Otherwise, you may not keep any entries.
3. All designs must be your own.
4. You may make line edits, but try to keep them limited. (NOTE: They are not likely to have hair, as they have smooth scales rather than fur.)
5. You have until the end of July 30th to submit entries. August 1st begins judging.

Prizes below! (because what's a competition without prizes?)

PRIZES

Postby Nutheart » Tue Jul 01, 2014 10:46 am

Three people will win a position as a permanent artist. They can make a custom for themselves and make unlimited illooms (including customs). They also get one of the store pets in this group: http://www.chickensmoothie.com/accounts ... rid=152667

Three people will become guest artists, and can make five regular illooms over any span of time, in addition to one custom for themselves. They can also pick one rare or two uncommons from this group http://www.chickensmoothie.com/accounts ... rid=152667 (I will add more as time goes on, don't worry)

...Good luck!
