The Slytherin contestant was not quite sure whether Phoenix's response to his comments elicited hatred or admiration within him - it seemed to be a peculiar mixture of both. She was like no one else he had ever met before - quiet, but deadly, a challenge in her every look and spoken word. And when she smiled and winked at him... Phoenix really was a fiery bird. One thing was for sure, and that thing was that Xander was intrigued by his companion. Watching her leave was both painful and delightful and Xander resolved to talk to her later when they could have a more private conversation. He'd be able to turn her around; Phoenix would like him, in the end.

The next female to steal Xander's attention was Kelsey Ray, the female contestant from Slytherin. He had not had much to do with her in past years, but he liked her attitude and the way she carried herself with pride. Not only that, but she actually teased him his reception of Phoenix's reprimands. There really was only one downside - she was a muggle-born. Being a half-blood himself, there was not much Xander could do about his heritage, but he had been raised by his father, his muggle mother having disappeared after learning of his father's magic powers. Yet, here he was, facing a girl who had been raised without an ounce of magic in her life before her eleventh birthday. She acted as if this was some sort of achievement. It was just the luck of the draw, as far as Xander could see.

"And why, exactly, would we be humbled?" Xander asked the Slytherin girl, disliking her tone. "Is it because you're muggle-born?" Here, he lifted an eyebrow at Kelsey. Refusing to give her the time required to respond to his question, he turned back to Beckett, who was still sitting at the table.

"I'll be on my way to Defense Against the Dark Arts now, if you'd like to join me," he said. Then, turning to the rest of the Great Hall, he raised his voice to announce, "Duelling Club meeting before dinner tonight! Contestants and companions only." I'd like to see what I'm up against, he thought to himself as he headed for his class.

Upon arriving in the Defense Against the Dark Arts room, Xander noticed that Phoenix was already seated at one of the tables in the back. Deciding against sitting with her - he liked to keep 'em waiting - he slid into a seat at the other back table, putting his feet up on the chair beside him to save a seat for AJ. Beckett would most likely be sitting with them too and, if someone else caught his eye, they would most likely be invited to sit in the final chair at the table. Each of the four tables in the room had four seats, which usually meant that students from individual houses grouped around their own. Xander had a feeling that today the house colours would be a little more mixed than usual.

"The Odysseys of the Potion World," Vivianne read off of the cover of the book Hunter was holding. "It does sound interesting. I'm not sure if I'd want to borrow it from you - it seems like a favourite of yours." The cover of the book was worn in places, particularly in the corners, which were no longer right-angled but rounded to a neat semi-circle. It made the Ravenclaw companion happy to see a book that was well-used and clearly very loved.

Not wanting to discourage Hunter, however, she continued with, "Perhaps we could meet in the library after lunch? You can show me the potions that interest you most and I could show you the creatures that I find most fantastic?" She held up her copy of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, which she'd been reading before Nathan interrupted her. Vivianne's suggestion that they meet in the library stemmed from the fact that she had seen the Hufflepuff boy there many times, always with his nose in some book or other. Knowing this about him just made her want to get to know him better and the library seemed like the best place to do that, especially if they were discussing their favourite books.

Their conversation was interrupted by Nathan's reminder that class would start soon. Looking around, Vivianne realized that other students were already beginning to leave the Great Hall and a sort of panicked feeling entered her at the thought that she might be late to class. Roderick took his leave and Vivianne decided to do the same.

Getting up from the Hufflepuff table, she turned so that she was addressing both Hunter and Nathan, who she realized must have felt a little left out during her conversation with Hunter. Feeling slightly guilty, she said, "We should be heading to our class. I believe we all have Defense Against the Dark Arts? I would love it if both of you could join me?" Her invitation came out more as a question. Vivianne was not particularly adept at making friends, but she desperately wanted to be friends with these two. Flashing a smile seemed the way to go in order to convince them, which is exactly what the red-haired Ravenclaw did.

VALKYRIE NOX
ᴛʜᴇ ʀᴇsᴏᴜʀᴄᴇғᴜʟ ʀᴀᴠᴇɴᴄʟᴀᴡ
━━━━━━━━━━━━
17 female contestant
great hall; DADA aj, xander, beckett, phoenix
━━━━━━━━━━━━

The girl cringed openly as her companion slung his arm over her shoulders nonchalantly. "Sorry boys, Brookstone, team meeting." Oh, so they were a team, now? As they moved away from the Slytherin group, she too turned to look over her shoulder, her eyes going directly to Xander. He'd given her the same once over he gave all the girls in their year, and though she found it degrading she couldn't help but be flattered at the same time. Shaking her head the girl turned beneath AJ's arm, picking the offending appendage up from around her shoulders. She was aware he'd moved them over the Ravenclaw table at this point, likely in an attempt to get her away from his Snake friends. Though she was slim and had to look up a good bit to see him, the Romanian girl's doe eyes were glinting with contained annoyance. "And just what are we having a meeting about, oh great and powerful companion?" She asked, running a hand through her dark hair.

Rolling her eyes the Ravenclaw caught the looks thrown at them from others of their house. 'Dumnezeu, how could I get placed with him?' She'd asked this question repeatedly. It wasn't like she had anything against AJ personally, but Valkyrie didn't like to stick out any more than she already did. With him as her partner in this contest, she couldn't help but feel even more ridiculed. After all, he was the Ravenclaw that liked to chill with the Slytherin's. Surely he couldn't be all that bad, but many of their own house-mates didn't understand why he wasn't simply put into Slytherin to begin with if he got along with 'em so well. Sighing and shaking her head, the girl turned back to the task at hand when she caught site of formed on Vivianne's face at their approach.

Though Valkyrie had meant to begin discussing plans for the task they were sure to soon be given, the girl didn't get the chance. From the edge of her vision she could see others leaving the Great Hall, and checking the watch on her wrist she could only groan. "Look, we'll have to finish this little chat later since class is starting. But I'll tell you one thing now," moving closer, eyes hard and alight with determination she continued, "if you want to hang out with a bunch of Slytherin's so be it, but we're in this together and where you go, I go." With that, the girl turned sharply on her heel and exited the great hall.

Outside of the grand room, she stopped and backed into the shadows of the large doors. Leaning heavily against the wall, her eyes stared unseeing at the ceiling. How was she going to get through this? Kyrie had always been a quiet girl, tending to watch and wait for the perfect move. She was resourceful and calculating, two factors that had placed her within the Ravenclaw house to begin with. But she'd never been a fighter or overly ambitious, she just wanted to live life peacefully and do something worthwhile in the meantime.

The raven-haired girl lost track of time as she stood there, jolting back into the present as something soft and furry touched her ankle. Frowning, she moved her robe aside and gave a small smile at the sight of her feline companion, Milo. Mrow? The cat's tone was questioning, seeming to ask if his caretaker was well as he jumped into her arms. Scratching the cat behind an ear, Valkyrie began the short walk to her first class of the day, Defense Against the Dark Arts. It was a class the girl had found herself excelling in, and what had first prompted her to begin attending dueling club sessions.

By watching others practice their offensive spells, Valkyrie herself was able to hone and perfect defensive spells and counter-attacks. It was something the girl was good at and openly enjoyed. As she neared the class, she placed Milo on the ground, giving the feline one last fond scratch beneath his chin. "Alright Milo, you run along and catch yourself some mice, but stay out of trouble." She whispered chuckling as the tabby cat pranced off without a backward glance. Standing, she smoothed down her hair, took a breath, and entered the classroom. Upon entering she immediately noticed Phoenix, at a table of her own, and Xander. The later at his feet propped up, obviously saving seats for AJ and Beckett, his closest companions thus-far.

Still, every table had four chairs, and Xander had only three accounted for. Though Valkyrie generally chose to sit with Vivianne and a few others of her house, she figured she may as well make good on the words she spoken to AJ earlier. And so, with her head high and her shoulders back, the Ravenclaw settled herself elegantly on the seat at the very end of the table, the one that Xander had propped his feet upon in between them. Though she wanted to say something, a greeting of sorts, Valkyrie kept her mouth shut. She'd surely been raised to be nice to others, but she really had nothing to say to Xander at this point in time, and as of yet her heart hadn't quite stopped its frantic beating at the thought of sitting with a group of Slytherins.

[translation; dumnezeu - good lord, god]

BECKETT DRAKE
ᴛʜᴇ ᴄᴜɴɴɪɴɢ sʟʏᴛʜᴇʀɪɴ
━━━━━━━━━━━━
17 male companion
great hall, dorm, DADA aj, xander, valkyrie
━━━━━━━━━━━━

Beckett's green eyes were alight with laughter as AJ steered away his female contestant. He had to admit, the guy had to have guts to sling an arm around the girls shoulders without blinking. It was obvious she was irritated, but the little Roman was far too kind to say anything rude with the whole of Slytherin house watching her. Turning away from the retreating duo, his attention was quickly stolen by Xander. "That's right, man, you've got this in the bag." Chuckling the tawny-haired Slytherin shook his head as Xander's attention went back to Phoenix, and he couldn't help but bite his tongue to keep from laughing aloud when he called the girl a 'fiery bird'.

If looks could kill, Phoenix would be a murderer and Xander would surely be dead. It was obvious by her reaction that Phoenix hated the nickname, and Beckett hoped for his friend's sake he wouldn't be repeating it any time soon. Of course, knowing Xander meant he'd likely do just that to get a rise out of the girl. Beckett glanced up as a small hand touched his shoulder. Ah yes, Kelsey Ray, otherwise known as his contestant. She was younger than he, but Beckett knew Kelsey to be quite the little spitfire and he had to admit he was happy getting paired with someone like her. Scooting over to make room for the girl, he gave a fond smile. "Hey there, boss lady, got any plans today?" He really didn't give her time to answer, though, as his attention was soon back on the food before him again and his mind elsewhere.

Although Kelsey was his partner, and he should help her in every way possible, Xander was his friend. Beckett truly wanted the guy to win, and if he asked for it he'd help him out any way he could. Green eyes flicking over to the other male, Beck couldn't help but appreciate what he saw. The guy was taller than Beckett by a few inches, and though they were the same age they had completely different builds. While Beckett was slim and a bit wiry, his pal was tall and well-muscled, something that Beckett greatly appreciated on any guy. His skin was slightly tan, the perfect offset to his hazel-grey eyes.

Realizing he was staring hard at this point, Beckett gave a short cough and stood from the table. "Ah, I gotta go to the dorm, forgot some. Stuff." With that, the guy picked up his robes, slinging the clothing back over the crook of his elbow and exiting the great hall. Once outside, he turned in the direction of the Slytherin dungeon, swiftly making his way inside to grab his wand and books. In his rush that morning, he'd forgotten the darned things and with DADA up next he'd need them.

Beckett was entering the class only a short while later, hair still unkempt and tousled. A pointed look from their red-haired teacher, Mrs. Weasley, prompted the copper-haired male to throw on his robes. He gave the woman a wink, much to her annoyance, before moving to take his usual seat. Of course, seeing a head of familiar black hair sitting at his table gave him a moment of pause. Why in the world would little miss Nox sit with them? Frowning, Beckett settled himself on the left-hand side of Xander, nudging the guy and jerking his head to the lone girl at their table in a 'what the hell?' manner.

"Sorry guys I have to go," Emma said standing up from the table grabbing a last
piece of toast. "Professor Weasley will have me if I am late again." She said
grabbing her book bag and slinging it over her shoulder. It was black with the
Gryffindor crest, Hogwarts crest and her Quidditch number on it. She was a chaser
and proud, on day it wsa her dream to be on the Australian National Quidditch
team. Having only moved from Australia a few months before coming to Hogwarts
everyone at first had found it funny, her accent, but then they must have gotten
used to it.

"Hey Noah." She smiled at her companion. "You're a bit late, I'm heading to
DADA, want to come, we can talk strategy on the way."
She offered walking on
seeing if he would follow her. Walking towards the classroom she walked in to see
her step-brother sitting with his Slytherin buddies and his contestant, she understood
him sitting with them but what was with Valkyrie? Walking past she knocked him on
the side of the head. "Oops sorry." She feigned an apologetic look before
going to sit on the table in front of hem.

When Valkyrie mocked him he opened his mouth to reply but she had already left
the great hall for Defence Against the Dark Arts. He decided to follow suit having
seen Xander leave the hall. He knew that Valkyrie didn't agree with his friends but
really? She would get into trouble if she was spending as much time at the Slytherin
table as him she would get ridiculed, it took him two years to be mildly accepted
and then he was rejected by his own house, Valkyrie didn't need that.

She was probably joking anyway, he thought seeing her disappear around the corner.
He took his time walking to the classroom, he had a mild skill in defence against the
dark arts but he preferred Transfiguration, probably for the same reason Professor
McGonagall did. Walking into the class room the first thing he noticed was Xander and
Beckett sitting at the table with Valkyrie, she was serious?

He shook his head and sat down in the empty chair between Xander and Valkyrie.
"You're serious?" He asked the Ravenclaw contestant. At that moment he
felt someone hit him on the side of the head. "What was that for Emma?"
He asked when his step sister mock apologised.

It was quiet. The room was only lighted by some candles, their light dancing on the old walls telling stories of the past. It was a wonderful play. Rising her gaze at the candle in front of her, Phoenix bit her lip. Narrowing her green and golden brown eyes at the flame it first started to burn higher before the flame only left the candle, rose a bit higher into the air before slowly fading. A light smile appeared on her thin mouth. She really could do it. For one moment the reddish haired witch remembered the talk she had with her father five years ago. The time when he told her that the woman she had always called Mom, wasn't her actual mother. That her real mother was in Azkaban, imprisoned for using Unforgivable Curses in many cases. He had told Phoenix, that she had been an extraordinary witch, strong and intelligent. When she had asked what exactly had happened, her father only shook his head.
Her gaze was settled on the candle as steps echoed at the door. She could hear a hand laying on the door, shortly before opening it. Rushing her hand over the black wick the candle a tiny flame started to light up again just the moment Xander entered.
It wasn't needed to turn around to know that he had entered the room. His presence was strong enough that everyone would have known that it was him. A wave of relieve flew through her when he decided not to sit down with her. She really didn't wanted him at her side. Not now.

It didn't took long when the door opened a second time. Valkyrie this time. And she sat down at the table with Xander. Phoenix couldn't hide a grin, maybe she would start to bet on her winning the Tournament, at all she had the strong head for it.
With the time more students entered, and so did their teacher. With her a black shadow entered the room too, racing directly at Phoenix, jumping up and settling down at her legs. It was Nocta, Phoenix cat. Her sweet scent lulled in the Slytherin companion, while her deep eyes looked up. The feline always knew when something was wrong, it wasn't a surprise that she knew that something was troubling the girl. Lifting her slim hand Phoenix started to groom the black pelt when the door opened a next time.

This time it was AJ. AJ. The strange boy with the grey eyes. Phoenix couldn't help but stare at him. He was tall, not as tall as Xander but still. His short hair kind of wild. He was pretty. Swallowing the witch turned her gaze back at her cat who just had started to look at her questioning. Did she really just thought he was pretty. How ridiculous. But she only could think of his cheeky gaze at her in the morning and his scent. Her eyes widened. There had been that one strange scent at him. It was the same that Nocta had. What did this mean.
Turning her head she looked back at him. Gladly he didn't even thought of glancing in her direction - it would be embarrassing.

Nathan felt himself growing more uncomfortable by the minute. Vivianne invited the boy that she had just become acquainted with to the library, leaving him feel slightly left out. Hunter wasn't the only boy in the world who enjoyed reading books. As he waited for them to finish their conversation, he nervously moved his fingers through his shaggy hair. He felt ancy to get going; most f the Great Hall had been emptied out. Nathan had never been late to class, not even when he had gotten his arm extremely burnt by a dragon hatchling. No, he had sprinted to class as quickly as he could, even though his arm was burning in excruciating pain. I've never been late before, and I don't want to make a habit of that now, he though with another cast at the exit. Finally, Vivianne responded to his warning. With that, she left an invitation to both of the boys to join her in class.

"Uh, yeah sure, I'd love to," he said, trying hard not to sound so eager. He might have made a friend; after all, why would she invite him to sit with her? Hunter was also another candidate for a friendship, as long as they didn't get too close during the tournament. "Well, if you two are ready we should probably get going," he said, starting to walk out of the Great Hall at a brisk trot. He kept looking behind his back, just to make sure the other two were still following. Finally, they reached the dim DADA room, in the nick of time. Most of the students had already arrived, and Mrs. Weasly did not look impressed at his late arrival. Well, later than he ever was. He took a seat at a table in the middle, with had three seats for each of them. "There's a seat here," he instructed, suddenly hoping that they didn't change their minds.

While he waited for them to sit, he squinted at the blackboard to see what they would be learning about. From this distance, however, all he saw was white, blurry letters. Nathan did have glasses from a certain Muggle called an optometrist, but he never wore them in Hogwarts. He always felt silly in them. Besides, as long as he sat close to the front, he could usually see. However, due to their late start, he had gotten farther back than he preferred. Hopefully he would already know enough about the subject in order to rely on his already vast knowledge. If not, he could always ask Vivianne. It would defiantly give them more to talk about.

Genevieve smiled at Lyssa, who was beginning to talk. Her words were punctured by "uhs" and stutters, and Genevieve intensely hoped that she would grow more confident as the tournament went on. Maybe the tournament could change her for the better? "Yeah, I'm Hunter's companion! Truthfully, I wanted to be a contestant, but I think being a companion is just as fun, if not better!" Her reasons for trying to put her name in the cup were quite personal. Genny had wanted to prove to her parents that she could be self-sufficient and independent. Still, she hadn't expected to be chosen. Even though she wasn't a contestant, she could still show them that she could help others out!

Lyssa seemed to grow uncomfortable as soon as dangers were discussed. I knew I shouldn't have said that, she thought with dismay. "Yeah, I'm sure it won't be bad at all!" she said, hoping Lyssa would feel better. "Mental challenges sound just as difficult as the physical ones, if not more!" Soon, another Hufflepuff approached the table. He was Lyssa's actual companion, and she would not have known him had he not been in Hufflepuff. "Hello Roderick!" she said happily. He was quite the mischievous one, and he switched Lyssa and Hunter's books with ease. She gave him a throat slicing motion, warning him to cut it off. Generally, she liked him and all of his joking and teasing, but she wasn't sure if Lyssa would like it or not. "Anyways, the Cup is going to be so exciting!" she squealed, her legs kicking in anticipation. Soon, most of the students had left the Great Hall. "Oh, it looks like everyone is headed to class. I'm going to go with Roderick see you later Lyssa!" she said with a smile. "If there's still seats left, don't hesitate to sit with me!" she beamed, hoping Lyssa would take up her offer. As quick as she could, she sped off towards Roderick.

"Hey!" she said, coming up on his left side. He had seemed a bit agitated and even somewhat sad at breakfast, after he had swapped the books. "How are you Roderick?" Hopefully he wouldn't mind Genny's company, she knew that some people got annoyed with her. "Are you excited for the Cup? I am, I'm really happy that I was picked as a companion," she chattered away.

Geld

☳ ☷ ☳ ☷ ☳ ☷ ☳ ☷ ☳ ☷ ☳

Hufflepuff companion - "the stealthy one"
Gender - |Male| ☳ ☷ Age - |17| ☳ ☷ Wand - |Holly and Dragon Heartstring|
Location - |The Great Hall, DADA Class| ☳ ☷ Tags - |Genevieve|

His stride was quick, his shoulders were tense, and he was trying a little too hard to keep the frustration from showing on his face. For a moment, he almost missed his brother, Richard; as aggravating and disrespectful as the older Gryffindor was, at least he was used to the boy's horrible attitude. He expected his jests and insults, he grew up with them and knew how to deal with any resultant feelings of vexation and anger. The annoyance that was his older brother was familiar, being purposely ignored by his peers was not. Oh how infuriating! If he had any of Richard's courage, then he'd poison Vivianne's food so that she'd have the runs for a week.

"Oh my gosh!" He jumped, startled out of his 'revenge planning' when Genevieve seem to just apparate at his side. His exclamation wasn't loud, but no less surprised and he had nearly stopped walking. Wasn't she just talking to Lyssa? Roderick stayed quiet and tried to regain his composure as words seemed to just fly out of her mouth. She had caught up to him just as he was leaving the Great Hall and they were well on their way to their first class by the time she paused long enough for him to speak. "I'm well, thank you." He answered, offering her a small smile. Although 'well' isn't the right word to describe how he's feeling at the moment, confiding in someone certainly isn't something he is comfortable with.

"As for the House Tournament, I am not as excited as many think I should be. However, I am eager to begin the first task." His tone is just as polite as it was when he spoke to Hunter, though much less mischievous. He learned his lesson for now, attempts to make friends aren't worth the hurt feelings and injured pride. They reached the classroom as he finished speaking and, positive that their conversation was over considering that's usually how long casual conversations last for him, Roderick headed straight towards the seat that he favors; front row, desk and chair closest to the windows.

Slytherin contestants - "the ambitious one"
Gender - |Female| ☳ ☷ Age - |16| ☳ ☷ Wand - |Blackthorn and Phoenix Feather|
Location - |The Great Hall, DADA Class| ☳ ☷ Tags - |Xander, Beckett|

If Xander hadn't left right after speaking to her, she would have replied: "Yes, a Slytherin muggle-born winning would humble the whole house." It's surprising how little respect some wizards have for muggle-borns. A pair of normal people having a baby that is literally filled with magic, what's not amazing about that? And look how far she has come! She's doing well in most of her classes, she has a good amount of wizard money saved up, and she was chosen for the House Tournament. To think she was born and raised in a magic-less home. Soon she'll win the tournament, become the headmistress of Hogwarts, and offered the position of Minister of Magic.

After Xander and Beckett, who rushed out to fetch some forgotten stuff, left Kelsey slipped into the seat for a quick breakfast before the food disappears. It didn't take long for her to munch on a handful of bacon and a few pieces of toast, she was quite used to rushing her breakfast. Shadow, who must've eaten while she was snoozing, had slipped off her shoulders and was watching the Great Hall start to empty. After a few annoying prods, which was Shadow-language for "Hurry up!", she swallowed the rest of her pumpkin juice and picked up the feline before leaving the hall. It wasn't long until she reach the class, slipped into the room, and sat at a desk in the middle of the classroom. She let go of Shadow so that the cat could curl up under her chair.

Noah Riley
♦The Quiet One♦Age:16♦Gryffindor Contestant♦No Crush♦Single♦Current Location: DADA♦

Noah looked up at the girl with a quirked eyebrow as he took a bite of his breakfast, and when she started walking he struggled to get his legs out from underneath the table, banging them in the process. "Shoot." He muttered as he stood with a wince, looking down the space between the tables. He'd lost Emma. Looking through the crowd of people now bustling around in a hurry to get to class, he spotted the Gryffindor he was looking for and hurried after her, looking at the ground as he forced his way through the people who'd blocked his path. Once out of the hall he paused for breath, but only for a second, he couldn't afford to lose Emma a second time. Sighing, he began chasing after her again, his pace quick in order to avoid being late, but also to avoid missing the chance to sit next to his contestant. Yeah, because that would be a great start wouldn't it Noah? The boy rolled his eyes as he arrived at his DADA class, just a few steps behind Emma.

Taking another bite of his apple, the boy then strode through the classroom, occasionally moving to a side in order to prevent himself from hitting someone. Upon seeing Emma hit her step-brother, he stifled a chuckle, and averted his gaze guiltily as he heard the boy question his sibling what he'd done wrong. Continuing to walk through the desks, Noah came to an abrupt stop in front of the seat that Emma had gone to sit in. He moved to the side to allow her to sit down with an apologetic smile, "Sorry." He spoke softly, as he sat down in the seat next to hers, then started rummaging through his pockets looking for a quill. Once he'd found one, he put it out on the desk and twirled it around in his fingers nervously, "So, uh, did you expect to be chosen last night??" He asked, trying to create relevant conversation.

Lyssa May Hartley
❀The Shy One❀Age:17❀Hufflepuff Contestant❀No Crush❀Single❀Current Location: DADA❀Tagged-Open❀

Nodding as Genevieve spoke, Lyssa only smiled in reply as the girl mentioned being a companion and described it as fun. Yep, it sounds a lot better than being watched by the rest of the school as you fall on your backside multiple times. Feeling the weight of her book change, Lyssa looked down at the cover and frowned, almost jumping when the books switched back. She looked over at Roderick with a small smile formed on her lips, he was only messing about..at least, that's what she hoped. The other Hufflepuff contestant was sat with him and she offered him a smile before turning back to the younger girl who'd stated that the Cup was going to be..exciting. "Yeah," Lyssa faked a smile, "I really can't wait to get started." Her stomach churned and she began to feel sick; just the way she'd felt when her name had been announced and everyone had then known who she was and she could no longer hide.

Noting that people were beginning to leave, Lyssa grabbed herself a couple of raspberries and was about to tell Genevieve that she was going to head to DADA when she heard that the girl had decided to walk to class with Roderick. Nodding again, Lyssa smiled and replied, "I'll see when I get there, see you later, have a nice day." She was almost proud of herself for not stuttering, and as the girl sped off she stood with another yawn before clutching her book to her chest and strolling out of the hall; looking at the ground to once again avoid being seen. Weaving in and out of people, Lyssa arrived in class with a few minutes to spare; she looked around and noted that she'd gotten there before Genevieve and sighed. Walking through the tables with her head still down, she winced as she bumped into a table, her book dropping to the floor,"Oh, uh..sorry," She squeaked nervously, her cheeks flushed as she bent down and picked it up.

It didn't take long for the Defence Against the Dark Arts room to begin filling up. Ms. Weasley seemed keen to start, more keen than usual, and Xander groaned inwardly at the thought of a rigorous lesson. As much as he liked Defence Against the Dark Arts he much preferred the actual practice of it versus the theory. Though Ms. Weasley provided a good mix of the two he still dreaded the lessons that were based on textbook study.

When Valkyrie Nox sat down at the end of the table, however, his entire notion of how the class would pass by was turned on its head. Why was the pretty Ravenclaw contestant sitting at his table? His inflated ego would have liked him to believe that she was here for him; he was clearly much too attractive for her to resist. But reason told him that she was here because AJ would undoubtedly be sitting beside him. Boy, was she stubborn.

When Beckett sat down on the other side of him and nudged him, Xander felt a twinge of annoyance. He shrugged his shoulders, glancing at Valkyrie from the corner of his eye. She was just sitting there and the Slytherin contestant thought she looked a little uncomfortable to be there. It must have been the idea of sitting with the Slytherin's. He had never understood why they other houses were so prejudiced against his own.

"Why so uncomfortable?" he drawled. "We don't bite, you know." If AJ had been here he would have joked about that statement not being completely true, particularly when they were in Animagus form, but the absence of his friend stopped him. Xander hoped he showed up soon.

Vivianne followed Nathan out of the Great Hall, glad that he was keeping an eye on the time. She did not like being late - especially when she got teased by other Houses about it. For some reason, Ravenclaw was usually associated with 'keeners' - the nerdy, always on time types of students. What the other Houses didn't realize was that that really wasn't what her House stood for. It stood for intelligence and the ability to solve puzzles and problems like none of the others could.

"There's a seat here," the Ravenclaw companion heard Nathan say and she sank into the seat next to him. Looking behind her, she was glad to see that Hunter had also made it into the room, though she wasn't sure if he'd be joining them. Turning back around as Ms. Weasley cleared her throat, Vivianne's eyes fell on the board. The white chalk, in Ms. Weasley's looped cursive writing, read:

    1. Acromantula
    2. Kelpie
    3. Erkling
    4. Dementor

Vivianne tilted her head to the side, confused. That was a rather strange assortment of creatures, she thought, and she could not find any connections between them. Other than the fact that both Dementors and Acromantula had been involved in the Battle of Hogwarts, there was absolutely no relation between the creatures on the board.

Luckily, she had Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them with her still. Flipping open to the page about the Acromantula, she shifted the book so that Nathan could also read it. There, underlined by her own careful hand in the dark blue ink she liked to use, were the words 'Forbidden Forest'.

"How much do you want to bet that the rumours are true?" she asked the Ravenclaw contestant. "What if you, as a contestant, are sent into the Forbidden Forest as part of a task? Or the Lake, for example." That last one was a stretch, as the Lake had been used for a task in the last Triwizard Tournament. Yet, the random assortment of creatures had to have a point to it, in Vivianne's mind, and, being the clever Ravenclaw she was, she was determined to figure out what the pattern was.

VALKYRIE NOX

17 female contestant
DADA aj, xander, DADA class

Valkyrie almost laughed at the look on Ashton's face when he noticed her there. Almost. She muffled the sound with a cough before smoothing out her expression and turning to the boy that had addressed her. "Yes, quite. We're partners and since you're keen on playing with the snakes, I suppose I'll just have to get used to them sooner or later." Mustering a bit of confidence and courage, the girl gave a small smirk and what could almost be described as a flirty wink. "I," she continued, "chose sooner."

When Emma passed by, nonchalantly thumping her step-brother in the back of the head with a book, Valkyrie let her once smothered laughter flow freely. Shaking her head to herself, she'd begun to relax a bit when an all too familiar voice spoke up from the side. "Why so uncomfortable, we don't bite, you know." Leaning back, the doe-eyed girl locked eyes with Xander. "I dunno, don't snakes usually have fangs?" She asked mockingly. Though she feigned irritation, Kyrie couldn't help but be a little charmed by the guy.

Though he was a Slytherin, she had to admit he seemed civil enough. Perhaps she shouldn't let her prejudices and past experiences create within her a biased opinion? Pursing her lips, Kyrie might have said something else if a certain teachers throat hadn't been loudly cleared, abruptly snapping the girl back to reality. Shoving herself forward, she opened her book and bent over it, allow her dark hair to form a curtain around her, shrouding her from the rest of the class which had by that time become almost-completely filled. Bending over her book, Kyrie began to skim its pages, doubling back to re-read material the class had gone over already as a way to give herself something to do as she waited for the day's lesson to begin.

Her golden green gaze had lasted in the dark hair of AJ for a while. Some parts of her silently begging he would turn around and look at her - the other parts screaming at her to turn away. The decision was made by Lyssa. The darked haired Hufflepuff contestant had run into her table. Immediately her gaze wandered over to the female, to see her lowering to pick up a book. Rolling with her eyes, Phoenix gave the contestant an annoyed glance. "And you should be a contestant? Not even able to circle a table." she hissed. Lyssa was shy, cheeks blushed and nervous, trembling like aspen. Sighing and rolling with her eyes Phoenix signed the young witch to sit down. At all it was her job as companion to find out as much as possible about the other contestants. Sometime she had to start, so why not now.
"Here, sit down. I believe your...friends" Phoenix couldn't avoid but to spit this last word "will have place here to sit with you too." Trying not to narrow her eyes at the girl, Phoenix summed up what she already knew about Lyssa. Muggle-born, a bookworm - acording to the many times she already had seen her in the library, good with alchemy and charms. Most of all - no friend of others.
A undefined smile appeared on the reddish haired witch. It would be hard for her to compete with the others - at all from what she knew about her by now. Strict loners would have their problems in this tournament.
Her gaze was lead to the black-board as Ms. Weasley started to write something. Her swirled writing, revealing Acromantula, Kelpie, Erkling, Dementor.
A curse moved through her head. It was clear what the reason was that these four words stood there . A quick glance over to Xander wasn't helpful, he still seemed bothered with his - things. Taking a deep breath Phoenix turned back to Lyssa.
"So what do you think about the Tournament?" she asked, really trying to sound friendly and honest interested.

The stairs seemed to have planned for him to be late. Sighing he just stood there, gazing at the stairs moving always way from him - or the final destination he wanted to get to. An annoyed glance moved over the stoney stairs. Narrowing his eyes he looked evil at the next one he needed."Don't you dare to move now." his voice strong. To his surprise the stair really turned into his direction. Grinning brightly, humming he raced down.
To no surprise he was late - but not the last, a fact that was very relieving to the champion. His gaze quickly moved over the little crowd, sitting at their tables. It was a quite colorful mixture. Valkyrie had joined the Slytherins (but still with an rather uneasy expression on her face) and even his sister didn't sat alone in her edge (she looked uneasy too). The lack of understanding was written on his face.
"okaaaaaay...." she said very low. He couldn't understand why the tournament had managed to break up the old bonds within a day - that was extraordinary.
Giving Ms Weasley a warm smile and a cheeky wink Tyler rushed at Emma's side. His blue eyes studying the words on the board.

"eeeh. Spiders. They always let me shiver. With their hairy legs and their ....." a wave of shivers let the dark haired contestant moving uneasy. Shaking himself he turned over to Emma - only now he saw her rather bitten expression. Worried he leaned over to catch her eyes. "So, everything okay?"
