I'm posting like a mad woman XD I just love naming things ;v;

Here's some examples from my DC scroll if you don't want to look; not all the names are that great anyways
>Bloodstained Silk
>Blood Royalty
>Crimson Whispers
>Scarlet Vintage
>Scarlet Secrets
>Unforgotten Secrets
>Thirty-Six Red Roses

They're all kind of long, but they can always be short formed into nicknames.

Have you seen the show Dexter? The fins of that fish make me think of his kill rooms, I'd name that one Dexter haha.

Guys I have a problem. One of my black neon tetras whom was perfectly fine yesterday I found this morning drifting on a plant dead.
I have no idea what happened. ;.;
The tank is fully cycled and everything, but I'm now testing the levels with liquid testers. The test strip said everything was perfect, but I'm double checking with the drops just to be certain.

How many gallons is your tank? : I can't remember anymore, but it holds at least 40 litres.
How many fish and what types are they? : One female betta (wild type) (she needs a name!), and was five black neon tetras, now four. I'd have had a few more tetras so they're more of a school, but they're ordering in the fish I want and they're only there to keep the tank's cycle continuing at the right levels.
How long has it been running? : The tank has been running since early this year, around January. I can look up the specific date, the tank's been fully cycled for months now. But the fish I currently have are new. The goldfish that were in there have been moved and so it's now a 100% tropical tank. I only turned the heater on when I got the tropical fish. That was about three/four days ago.
Did you cycle it? : Yep! ^.^
If possible what are the ammonia nitrite and nitrate levels? : Test strip said they're perfect, but double checking in liquid drops, I'll update when I've got all the levels. So far I've done the nitrite levels and they're zero. I'm doing the ammonia level next.
I think I'll do a water change after I've tested everything as well.
What is the issue or question? : One of the black neon tetras just suddenly died last night and I have no idea why.
It was perfectly fine yesterday, I've been checking them every day to make sure they all settled into the tank.
I doubt the betta did anything to the tetras because at the fish store they had a tank with around twenty black neon tetras with four female bettas and they were all perfectly healthy. (and one random baby cichlid that was smaller than the smallest tetra and couldn't go in any other tank apparently) I don't see how else it could've died.
The plant it got caught drifting on was the only fake plant in the tank, so I've taken that out now so I can clean it.
It's already been decomposing, but it appears to not have a tail, but I'm not sure.
One other thing, I didn't cover the tank up for the night last night, but I've been doing so for every other night, I just forgot today.
When the goldfish were in there they were fine if I accidently forgot. So lights were on the tank the whole night.
(the tank doesn't have an actual light, but it's near a window that streams enough light in to grow a bit of algae if I'm not careful)
The tank's in my room so when I have the my light on at night so I don't damage my eyes staring at a laptop in the dark I usually cover the tank up with a towel to make it night time in the tank.
I can try and post pictures if need be.

Also I can't think of a name for my betta, so suggestions would be great. :)
And you guys all have such gorgeous male bettas! ;.; You're now making me regret not buying this gorgeous peach and navy blue betta I saw in the fish shop I usually go to. I told myself I didn't have a spare filter to put in my spare tank, nor even a spare heater, so I couldn't get it. (the spare tank being a 8 gallon or something along those lines)

It's fine, wolfy. Just need to do a little research is all. XD It's fine. I'll be getting them a nice big tank soon enough. He is for the most part leaving Violet and Angie (the two girls with him) alone, so... Yeah. She be fine. I'll be sure to do my best. Thank you!

Heh. All of the reaserch I did said they were feeder guppies. I even posted pictures of them and people were like, "That's a feeder guppy." I'm guessing 'feeder guppy' is a nickname for them. But eh. XD he is very pretty, and given enough time he might grow larger than his dad.
I'll fix this later.

Sorry, it didn't mean to come out like that. XD I meant that I just needed to do a little more care research was all. Oops! XD Yep! I'm pretty sure he is close to full grown, if not full grown now. When was he born again?

Update:
I went to my fish store to ask for advice and they said that my temperature of my tank was too low (the heater was at 26C, but the thermometre read 22C which I knew was too low, but I didn't know the low temperature would cause aggression), making my tetras sluggish, which made my betta pick on them which killed the tetra. (It's winter where I am)
I've now upped the heater to 28C, which will hopefully bring the temperature up to a decent amount, I might have to raise it more though. The man at the store said to get it to at least 26C.
They tested my water and it's perfect.
When I came home with two replacement tetras (because I decided having six would be better than five), ANOTHER tetra was dead.
We rang the store up and the same guy picked up the phone and he told us it was still the same problem, but now that I've turned the heater up things should improve.

It's strange because I've never seen my female betta get aggressive towards any of them, actually they (the tetras) often school with the betta, but I guess it was colder than normal last night, and the water still would be pretty much as cold as it was.
And you never know what a fish does when you're not there.

I'm really glad I got a solution. ^.^
Is there anything else I could do other than raise the temperature on the heater?

Your heater could be too low powered for your tank, if you need to set it so much higher to keep the tank warm... I have the opposite thing actually(heater is set much lower than the thermometer reads), since the lights(2x18W fluorescent) also heat up the water some. Also lids/hood keeps the warmth in.
If it's the betta that actually kills the tetras(and not the cold, which slows their body functions), then offering the tetras more hiding places(plant bushes, my blue neons love to hide behind them little too much...) and possibly growing the group might help(around here they recommend min. 10 tetras per shoal). Bigger shoals also look much nicer. ^^
Can we pretend that the airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now...

I LOVE feeder guppies that have reverted to their wild roots(wild guppies are one of natures most beautiful things).

I don't buy my mosquito fish...they are native where I live so a roadside ditch or pond is where I find mine(I only use safe, clean areas to net my fish) I also get other pretty fish that way. my 10 gallon "pond" tank has currently:

Two wild sailfin mollies(grey striped fish, males have large dorsal fins and blue tails)

A bonded pair of Bluefin Killifish(brownish grey fish with a black stripe running horizontally from nose to tail, males have blue dorsal fin and red tail fin)

Seven Mosquito fish(all pregnant females, need male)

Two inch long mayan cichlid fry(they are half an inch long each, very cute when tiny, gets to be larger than Oscars)

And then my two bettas in the middle(they are the head of the tank but do much to the environment of the tank...)

all of those fish(except the bettas of course) are wild caught from a clean, unpolluted waterway.

btw: my male betta has started fin nipping(sigh) and now looks like plakat betta...at least he is swimming better I guess(he darts around the tank, apparently happy with his new tail)

The guy at the store told me off for not having at least ten as well!
I would get more, but I'm waiting for them to order in asian rummynose which I'll be get between ten and fifteen of (at least), and the black neons are meant to compliment those, hence the smaller school.
If I get more black neons I'll overstock the tank terribly once I get the asian rummynose, and I don't want 'leftover' tetras with no tank to go in (as my spare tank I would like to set up as a betta tank again, but not yet, don't have equipment for that tank)
Unfortunately this tank doesn't have lights, and the lid is a simple piece of glass. So it would lose a lot of heat that way. :(
If I had the space (since I have the money to get it) I'd get another tank and give them a bigger school of like twenty. <3
Yeah, I'm wondering about buying a new heater, but the thing is, I made sure I bought a heater that was (At least according to the box) the perfect one for the tank. It could be the thermometer that's stuffed. I'm thinking of buying a secound thermometer and putting it in a different part of the tank and see what it says. If it reads the same as the first one, I think I should buy a new heater.
I think it's better to be higher powered than too low powered. What sort of heater do you have?

Well I'm still not sure it's the betta that does it (since she doesn't appear aggressive when I watch the tank for an hour or more x3), and not simply the colder water, but the first one didn't have a tail when I found it, and the secound one had an injury on its side, so that points to something bullying it. :( They all looked perfectly injury free before I discovered them dead though which is confusing.
I only have a few plants in there at the moment since the large plastic plant I had in there the fish avoided and I need to clean, and the fake java fern had really sharp edges. The live plants I've got in there are rather little. :c
I'll try and find some more low-light cheap plants, thanks for giving me advice. ^.^ I'm going to contact a breeder who practically gives away large live plants, well I need to find their number again, or I would've phoned about live plants a while ago.
Would ornaments work just as well? I have some spare ones, and I won't be able to get more plants for a week or two.
