Guys I have a problem. One of my black neon tetras whom was perfectly fine yesterday I found this morning drifting on a plant dead.
I have no idea what happened. ;.;
The tank is fully cycled and everything, but I'm now testing the levels with liquid testers. The test strip said everything was perfect, but I'm double checking with the drops just to be certain.
How many gallons is your tank? : I can't remember anymore, but it holds at least 40 litres.
How many fish and what types are they? : One female betta (wild type) (she needs a name!), and was five black neon tetras, now four. I'd have had a few more tetras so they're more of a school, but they're ordering in the fish I want and they're only there to keep the tank's cycle continuing at the right levels.
How long has it been running? : The tank has been running since early this year, around January. I can look up the specific date, the tank's been fully cycled for months now. But the fish I currently have are new. The goldfish that were in there have been moved and so it's now a 100% tropical tank. I only turned the heater on when I got the tropical fish. That was about three/four days ago.
Did you cycle it? : Yep! ^.^
If possible what are the ammonia nitrite and nitrate levels? : Test strip said they're perfect, but double checking in liquid drops, I'll update when I've got all the levels. So far I've done the nitrite levels and they're zero. I'm doing the ammonia level next.
I think I'll do a water change after I've tested everything as well.
What is the issue or question? : One of the black neon tetras just suddenly died last night and I have no idea why.
It was perfectly fine yesterday, I've been checking them every day to make sure they all settled into the tank.
I doubt the betta did anything to the tetras because at the fish store they had a tank with around twenty black neon tetras with four female bettas and they were all perfectly healthy. (and one random baby cichlid that was smaller than the smallest tetra and couldn't go in any other tank apparently) I don't see how else it could've died.
The plant it got caught drifting on was the only fake plant in the tank, so I've taken that out now so I can clean it.
It's already been decomposing, but it appears to not have a tail, but I'm not sure.
One other thing, I didn't cover the tank up for the night last night, but I've been doing so for every other night, I just forgot today.
When the goldfish were in there they were fine if I accidently forgot. So lights were on the tank the whole night.
(the tank doesn't have an actual light, but it's near a window that streams enough light in to grow a bit of algae if I'm not careful)
The tank's in my room so when I have the my light on at night so I don't damage my eyes staring at a laptop in the dark I usually cover the tank up with a towel to make it night time in the tank.
I can try and post pictures if need be.
Also I can't think of a name for my betta, so suggestions would be great.
And you guys all have such gorgeous male bettas! ;.; You're now making me regret not buying this gorgeous peach and navy blue betta I saw in the fish shop I usually go to. I told myself I didn't have a spare filter to put in my spare tank, nor even a spare heater, so I couldn't get it. (the spare tank being a 8 gallon or something along those lines)
