------>'help! someone help, its stuck!' a shrill voice cut through the warm april air like a knife. caden glanced up. across the train station he could see the beginnings of a crowd forming at the edge of the platform. 'oh somebody help it! its going to get itself hurt!' whether it had been curiosity or chivalry, caden did not know, but something pushed him up from his seat on the 'train seven' waiting bench. as he walked closer to the commotion he found where the panicked shrieks had come from. a young woman, fashioned in a floral print dress complimented by a buttery yellow trench coat, was leaned over the platform's edge reaching for something down upon the tracks. 'hold me steady, i'm going to grab it!' caden was not granted with as much time as he would have liked to bask in the girl's beauty. never mind the cat, she was going to get herself hurt. with muttered apologies caden pushed his way through the crowd to the edge of the platform. he reached for the girl's shoulder and gently pulled her back. her rich mahogany locks bounced as she spun around to argue. he met her distraught eyes with a smile so soft and reassuring it could pacify an angry lion. 'i'll get him, don't worry.' caden craned his neck to see deeper into the tunnel. no lights. he glanced the other way. no lights. the only life on the tracks appeared to be the impaired kitten and nothing else. so caden hopped down on to the tracks and landed just a few feet away from the cat. the feline let out a squeak of protest as caden swooped him up from the ground. 'gotcha.' he rubbed the kitten's cheek with his thumb as he extended his arm up toward an old man with his hands outstretched. the kitten had just been lifted from caden's grasp when a loud blast echoed through the tunnel. all he had time to see was a single bright light racing toward him before-
------>caden's eyes fluttered open. he rubbed his eyes and rested a hand on the bridge of his nose as he let out a shaky breath. lately every chance he got to sleep (or whatever it really was ghosts did) he had been plagued with nightmares. memories. forced to relive his death through dreams. this had happened twice before. once, in the week following his sudden death. and twice, for a few weeks in nineteen sixty seven, when oliver first arrived at the mansion. caden didn't understand why it was happening again, let alone why it happened at all.
------>he could suddenly hear gemma clear as crystal through the wall. she was complaining, as always, about wanting to find her "purpose" as a wandering spirit. she must have been talking to someone in particular, though it wouldn't surprise cade at all if she was just rambling on to herself. she had her fair share of melodramatic moments like that. as cade opened his mouth to yell to the drama queen he heard a door slam. he threw his head back with a groan. door slamming was one of his pet peeves. heaving himself up from the ratty futon he had been laying on, he walked swiftly through the wall nearest to him. his dominating voice echoed through the halls. "c'mon guys, what's the rule?" he stopped as he leaned against the railing that overlooked the front entry way of the mansion. "don't slam the doors. i don't care about whatever else y'all want to do, as long as you don't slam the god forsaken doors. it's so simp..." his words drifted off as his eyes settled on two unfamiliar faces. a boy and a girl. caden rolled his eyes. humans. certainly not the first to wander through here. even though they couldn't see them, cade never liked the idea of humans poking around the mansion. it was sort of invasive, really. he glanced gemma's way and saw the smile creeping on her lips, one he recognized it all too well. that's what he liked about his second in command. she still had that playful aura inside of her, the one cade himself had lost a number of decades ago. it was times like this, looking at gemma's glowing grin, that he wished he had it back. "just don't break anything if you can help it." he gave gemma a tired look as mercy arrived at her side.

joseph was sitting by himself, feet dangling over the table he was sitting on. he had just gotten here yesterday, and no one really wanted to talk to him yet, he guessed, because no one really had. he had appeared on a whim; a feeling in his gut sent him to this place, he wasn't really sure why or how. he didn't know anyone yet, and it was starting to worry him that he didn't pass on. why was he sent here instead of the light? was there even a light? he felt confused, alone, worried, and lost. still, he had found himself in the library with a book, reading it slowly. in all honesty, he was happy he could still read, at least. it was better than anything, right? joseph found himself thinking that maybe it wasn't all bad, something good was bound to happen here eventually. among all the mixed feelings, he could tell this mansion was a welcoming place, no matter how menacing it looked. he laughed, the noise echoing across the four walls and back to him, maybe this was why the only places in movies and books that were haunted were creepy mansions. ghosts felt strong connections and felt at home in places like this. he smiled to himself and pulled his legs up on the table, criss-cross as he flipped a page.
    ----------------
he had been pulled out of a lake. a small lake by his hometown in south dakota. it was the worst feeling he had ever experienced, being able to see himself getting pulled out of the murky water. he didn't ever want to see another body of water again; it made him feel sick just thinking about it. he missed his friends, the little that he had. he missed zane, and he wondered where he was now. he knew he had been one of zanes only friends; well, half friends. they were both really kept to themselves. turned out zane was right about all that ghost stuff. joe found himself smiling once more, but it quickly stopped when he heard noises from outside. it was mumbling, people talking. he flipped another page. waited, more sounds. there must be someone here. he thought, straightening himself. he hoped it was a newcomer like himself, maybe then he wouldn't be alone. it was mostly his fault he was alone anyway, though, he hadnt made it a point to talk to anyone.

GEMMA CONNERS
━━━━━━━━━ SECOND IN COMMAND ━━

gemma let her eyes wander over oliver's face, wondering if she
should honestly answer his question or not. sometimes the new-
bie's had such heroic or tragic deaths, making her feel pathetic.
getting drunk with her boyfriend and then allowing him to speed
across a curvy, gravel road wasn't exactly her proudest moment.
"you're telling me," she sighed, biting her lip as she glan-
ced down at the strangers. once she made up her mind on what to
tell him, gem looked back up at ollie, her grin returning in seconds.
"my boyfriend had just gotten a brand new car, and to celebrate
we took it out for a spin... needless to say, trees usually win again-
st cars,"
the raven-haired girl explained, slamming her first in-
to her palm as if to demonstrate a car hitting a tree. "the only
good thing that came out of it was that i ended up getting to avoid
an inevitably nasty break up,"
gemma chuckled, attempting to
lighten the mood. she'd rather not talk about her cause of death. she
didn't think it was really important to know how someone died. the
end result never changes, after all.

her gaze moved from oliver to mercy, who seemed to appear at
her side out of no where. "as usual," she answered resting her
elbows on the wobbly railing. "i swear, they get dumber and dumber
as the years go on," she muttered, giving oliver an apologetic look.
at times, he seemed so much more mature than he actually was.
the arrival of the two humans was causing all of them to stir. gem-
ma watched as jolee drifted off and ridley went to search for some
one else. she almost didn't notice cade appear to her left. his voice
startled the second in command, and she immediately straigh-
tened her posture and give him a stiff smile. her relationship with
cade was difficult, but they remained close nonetheless. however,
once he started getting chummy with that miserable little madison,
gemma had kept her distance. "i'm not the one you should
warn about breaking anything. caleb's probably already planning
on how to make them cry,"
she mumbled, swinging herself up
and onto the railing. she sat with her legs hanging and swinging
off the edge as her bright blue eyes peered down at the entrance
way. oh god, did this human kid actually think anyone was going
to answer? who even calls out into an abandoned mansion anyway?

a soft groan of boredom slid past the very lips of probably one of the only ghosts here who enjoyed their stay. caleb started up from the couch he'd been half lounging half hovering over and looked around, the faintest of voices being caught in his rather limited attention span. some he picked out as other ghosts, specifically some of the eldest, gemma and cade in whom he rather strayed from. the two ghosts running this whole operation weren't quite fond of his antics and he wasn't really fond of that himself so it was best they all left each other be. however throughout the ruckus of other ghosts he picked out two more, lively, voices, easily humans. a smirk splayed onto his lips as he shot out of the room he'd been sitting in, time for some fun.

somewhat gliding down the steps caleb's eyes searched around finding most of the hot shot ghosts near the railing of the steps. yet without even bothering to say hello or give some snarky comment he simply slipped by, landing at the bottom of the steps with ease before rounding a corner and nearly slamming into the humans. "boo." he hissed out before slamming the door shut behind the two living beings that were now his latest victims. one of the helpless humans was a male, face covered hopelessly in freckles, it rather gave him a more nerdish look in which only made caleb snicker more. the girl however was much more interesting to him, fairly pretty, seemingly easy to scare as most pretty girls who came in here did in fact scare easily.

"welcome to the show my pretties." the not so friendly ghost cackled out in a rather maniacal tone. he truly just prayed any other ghosts in the room would steer clear and let him have this much needed fun. whether these poor saps could see him or not didn't matter nor did it matter if they could hear him as honestly most couldn't. the real fun was spreading cold spots and making ghostly gestures around the room, usually knocking things over or stomping his feet along the halls. all of these methods usually did the trick in scaring all the living away, after all he was truly annoyed with their tendency to be so lively while he in fact was not.

------>cade's expression softened when gemma's demeanor stiffened. she had been like this, defensive, toward him for the past few months. he didn't know why, but he certainly knew he didn't like it. they were still close, sure, but not in the same way they were before... before he and madison started seeing each other. it was a curious thing, it was. was gemma... jealous? no, no certainly not. there was no way his second in command could actually have... ack, this wasn't something cade had the time to focus on.
------>'i'm not the one you should warn about breaking anything. caleb's probably already planning on how to make them cry.' as if on cue, caleb came flying out out a nearby room. "speak of the devil." cade muttered, instinctively gravitating toward gemma as she swung her legs over the railing and sat observatory of the humans. even though there was no possible way she could fall and die again, there still lied some sense of human anxiety for dangerous acts inside of cade. he propped his elbows on the railing and leaned forward, keeping his right shoulder pressed against gemma's ever so lightly. as if to act as some sort of barrier to keep her from falling.
------>there was really nothing cade could do to keep caleb's antics at bay, or rather, anything he felt like doing. so he had no choice but to hang back and 'enjoy the show'. caleb slammed the door shut behind the humans, causing cade to cringe. the leader just couldn't catch a break today. "don't slam the dooooooors!" cade hung his head in defeat. when he was alive, cade's younger brother did the same annoying act. you would think after going so far as dying cade would have been able to escape the madness. clearly that wasn't a reasonable thought to have. 'welcome to the show my pretties!' caden rolled his eyes as caleb's cackle echoed through the mansion. he felt like he was stuck in this house (which he happened to be in fact) babysitting a bunch of five year olds.

xxxxxxx the leather-clad teen glared heatedly at the paint-chipped walls, contemplating whether or not he had the ability to somehow set ablaze the ugly, yellowish green wallpaper. it might possible if he tried hard enough, but the objective still kept from arm's length and utterly out of his reach. but the intention did not look as hopeless when paired with his lingering desire to simply move on. after the loathsome life he lead, there didn't seem to be a heaven awaiting payton savage once he opened his eyes for the second time. he likes to think of the current situation as a hellish cage, unbreakable from either side and anticipating some sort of key that might never come.

xxxxxxx along with the other residents inside the humbled mansion, he found it completely uninteresting to linger in their ghostly state for all of eternity, given absolutely no other purpose except to watch grass grow. its been three decades since he'd witnessed his own bloodied demise and the young man hadn't gotten anywhere since that day. there was no liberation even in death it seems, for the whole lot of them, and while they all chose their own way of coping with a less-than favorable conclusion, payton wasn't able to relinquish from a heated resentment boiling within. sighing slowly, he dismissed his earlier notion with a slight eye roll before slipping easily through the thinly-plastered sheetrock. he stepped into the dusty hallway on the other side, nearly colliding with another spirit on the process. almost reflexively, he reached out for the girl, hands stretching as to grasp her shoulder before he stopped himself short. "no, my apologies..." he murmured stiffly before reflecting over her words. noises? surely not, seeing that the teen had spent a better part of the day on the roof while deciding to adhere to any commotion inside the house only moments beforehand. "is that why everyone is gathered out here?" he questioned jolee vaguely, glancing at the silhouettes of the group a few feet away while taking a step closer to the railing ahead.

xxxxxxx the distinguished cloud of confusion cleared from his thoughts quickly as payton chance a glimpse over the edge, noting the sight of noticeably pink flesh upon bone. "of course, its because of a pair of humans," he spoke lowly in irritation, sneering down at the two at the mansion entrance. truly, they were complete strangers, yet he couldn't repel an undignified sense of jealousy that had him clenching his fists tightly through the rotting wood of the stair railing.

AUGUSTINE
xxxxxxx evie augustine was far from scared of the alleged supernatural. since childhood, she'd grown with the image of actual spirits framing her every thought. every once in a while, she'd see a strange anomaly merely wondering in an eternal remain. these sightings normally resigned amongst haunted graves of the old abandoned cemetery on the edge of town, and often they'd have her pondering on possibility that she was going crazy and needed a sort of mental help. many signs pointed towards the former, due to the fact that the teen was clueless to whether or not these apparitions were authentic or merely a figment of her rabid imagination. however, truthfully, she'd grown to prefer their company over that of most of the hormonal teenagers that attended her county school.

xxxxxxx childhood friend, zane hawthorne, had been in the same rocky boat as the girl - even as they both had very differing thoughts on the matter. it'd been his idea to holiday at the residential abandoned mansion within the woods. maybe it was to prove some point to their classmates, but she agreed to accompany him on the visit and soon found herself standing curiously beside the other teen on a ratty rug that would have sold for thousands back in the day. she felt zane shift closer as they'd enter, whether from fright or ghostly chills was a mystery, yet evie couldn't resist a curt chuckle before carelessly aiming a punch on the other's shoulder, "how cliche can you get? this is starting to feel like a horror film," she said lightly, humorously as she took a few deliberate steps forward to fully observe their new surroundings. dark discoloration stained the connecting walls and the stale air smelt of rotten wood, however evie viewed the sightings with wondering eyes, taking note of the actual beauty of the house had they actually been back in time.

xxxxxxx the sudden approaching chill caused a charge of shivers to race over her spine, adored by a flinch from the sharp bang of the door slam. the sound caused a slight jump in her pulse as the brunette quickly spun around to encounter the unexpected manifestation in the form of a young man. 'welcome to the show my pretties.' the following six-worded statement that left the mysterious gentlemen's lips caused evie to freeze, eyebrows farrowing in confusion before slowly raising in apprehension. "um, look, random dude. that's going a little overboard, don't you think?" she said slowly as her heart rate steadily appeased. the statement was followed with an imposing snort as evie swiftly rearranged her ruffled beanie.

xoxoeighteen hours. eighteen hours gina had been sitting in the ruined room. back against the wall the girl was stuck in her head. bang! the sound of the gun. bang bang bang. a repetitive loop. for three days the girls ears rung, the sound of gunshots haunting her. she couldnt let go. gina had met some of the other ghost, but she felt better on her own, for now anyway. loneliness was empty. empty but peaceful. breathing. there was none. no need to draw breath. it made the world feel cold. no matter how hard gina tried to breath in the air, nothing. her absent lungs no longer needed the air. the concept was hard.
xoxo gina rose from the ground. the filthy ground. the girl still walked as if she were living, infact she refused to even attempt any of her new ghost abilities. not yet anyways. exiting the room, the girl wandered an empty hall. the mansion had so many, it was easy to get lost. the hall had many doors, each leading to something new. gina felt a slight happiness to discovering the rooms of the mansion, afterall she had been avoiding the so called life in the mansion.
xoxo wandering was something gina did well, although she would frighten herself with every creek the floor boards made. the perks of being such a coward. a cowardly ghost, thats got to be new. the door that stood out to gina was green, infact the door was doubled, making the doorway grand. the doors paint job was rough, but that was probably just from time. the paint peeled and had a sharp appearance.
xoxothe doors opened wide, the room not empty. books, books everywhere. one person. one ghost occupied the room. gina had never seen this one before, but that didnt surprise the girl, she didnt know many. at first gina wanted to turn and walk back out, keep up her loneliness, instead she walked towards the boy. "watcha reading?" she questioned softly, keeping her distance.

he was encased in his own world for so long that he didnt realise when she came in. he jumped when he heard a sound similar to bells, her voice. he dropped his book, and looked at her. "Oh uh-" He said, jumping down to pick it up. "Tom Sawyer." He answered, straightening. he was caught off guard by her; she was pretty for a ghost. That sounded kind of racist, but he didn't mean it to be. He brushed the book off and then placed it back onto the table he was once sitting on, where the dust still sat, untouched, as if he hadn't even been there before. he swallowed, then turned back to face her. he instantly wondered how she had died; and was she pulled here by some whim? or was it because she died here? had she been here long? he suddenly wanted to know everything about her, and he didnt know why. he bit his lip, waiting for her to answer. he noticed she looked empty, though beautiful, that perhaps she was as lonely as he was. "You havent been here long either, have you?" he stated quietly, watching her through the dust molecules bathed in light that appeared between them. brown eyes. brown hair. pale skin. she looked too alive to be dead. it made him kind of sad. he hoped her death wasn't too tragic, he hoped she hadn't had to experience being able to see herself in some horrible way. she was so young.

eva blinked at the mirror in front of her, her eyes red and puffy, spilling with an endless amount of tears as the small amount of makeup she had tried to wear was splashed around her face. she had been trying to control her emotional outbursts, but sometimes it wasn't as easy as some think it would be. sniffling back her tears, she wiped her face with the back of her hand before sniffling, realizing her hands where shaking as she slumped against the bathroom, her silent tears streaming down her face and falling into the broken down sink. the whole mansion was torn down and broken, and she couldn't help but feel that it helped to encourage her spirits, lowering her in the gloom as she sniffed, her voice breaking a bit as she sighed out, before everything flashed in front of her again. the yelling, watching her mother die in front of her eyes, screaming and kicking, and dying in a bathroom similar to this one. the anger towards her father and brother built up inside and immediately she picked up one of the broken pieces of glasses shattering the floor, a large piece, and gripping it firmly before throwing it against the floor, the shattering sound sending a wave of noise towards her direction. stumbling backwords, she leaned against the door, defeated, before wiping the makeup smearing down her face, hoping there was at least some left to look approachable as she stepped out.

hearing voices at the stairway, she sighed before breathing out, walking over slowly before listening to the conversation before sniffling and nodding slowly to payton. she liked him as a friend, he was someone she could be angry with without anyone trying to help- of course he had never seen her break down, and he hoped it would stay that way.
"of course. their going to be the center attraction for a while now." she murmured, thanking herself that she hadn't let her voice crack before sitting down quickly, her hair bouncing onto her shoulders as she averted eye-contact, keeping her gaze focused on the two.

oliver hadn't been the least bit surprised after he'd heard her explain. of course she'd have a boyfriend- it was impossible for someone like her not to. he nodded slowly afterwords, desperately wanting to give her a hug or hold her hand to comfort her, but knew she wouldn't like that- he knew he couldn't. his lips curved into a smile at her attempt to make a joke, though the situation itself wasn't a laughing matter. soon after mercy had approached, ollie had looked down at the humans, and watched as they crept closer together. his eyes burned with empathy, watched them as they moved below him. he wanted to help, guide them out of there, but being so close to the second in command, it would be a stupid idea. as gemma and mercy turned to him, his eyes quickly lifted as he hadn't been paying attention, and was a bit late to the conversation. he didn't know which was a better response- either to argue or agree. he could never tell what girls wanted, so he kept his mouth shut and was thankful when cade arrived to the group. a smile played on his lips as he watched cade pace around them. cade was like a father to him- someday ollie hoped to be as strong and brave as him, and he was working as much as he could on it. he was already maturing- at least, around them.

"you can't blame him though. it's always fun to tease someone." oliver bit his tongue before any other words slipped out of his mouth. it sounded terrible, so immature in front of people like them- he had just came there, he should have been more careful, but tried not to show regret as he finally sat down, realizing he had been standing for a while, every part of his body aching with efforts. though it was all empty, since he was stuck in a place between nirvana and here, he felt hollow. like he wasn't worth anything, didn't deserve anyone or anything that people were willing to give him. their time, their emotions- he didn't feel the need to accept it. staring down at the two as they walked along, now past his view, he blinked before placing his elbows onto his knees and palms onto his forehead, the headache making it worse for him as he stared at the ground. he breathed out slowly before turning around to look at the other ghosts who had been here for far longer than he had.
