Reason You Want It:
- As soon as I saw him, Matreki caught my heart. However, I'm trying desperately to discourage myself from adopting too many characters at the moment - Alas, I lost this round with myself. xD Ideas for him are... plentiful, interesting, amazing... I'm excited for him, which... oh, it makes me happy. cx
- Personality
Matreki is very much a loner - but it's not necessarily his choice. He wants the company, but he's super shy and is afraid of rejection and condemnation. He has a strong sense of faith and love, but it rots in his chest because it can't go anywhere - He has nobody to love, nobody to curl up around and keep warm, nobody to care for and adore and just... enjoy. As part of a failed experiment, he hasn't been socialized all that well, which only makes the anxiety and desire worse.
Underneath that awkwardness is an ocean of loyalty and hope, locked away by the belief that he's not worthy of anyone's attention. He thinks of himself as a freak, a meaningless accident that only upsets the natural order, and this has become so ingrained within him that, even if given the chance to love another, he will either ignore or deflect it, worried that it's just a trick, a test, something that is there to tempt and tease him, just out of reach. While he does think that there's someone out there for everyone, he stubbornly refuses to include himself in the classification of "everyone".
Matreki is damaged, and it shows no matter what he tries in order to hide it. It's always in his wings, or his expression, or maybe just how he acts. He has a crack, from which both good things (for others) and bad (for himself and his own wellbeing) spew forth. He would give the world to a complete stranger, saving only the barest of scraps for himself just so he could continue to survive. After all, one doesn't get as lanky as he is by saving a decent portion for one's self. He has given away more meals and rations of water than he has actually partook - a goal of most charities, sure, but it does nothing for his own health but force it into a decline.
It's clear to also add that Matreki is sickly. He gets ill pretty often, and it takes everything he has to pull himself together long enough to obtain a remedy to his situations. Naturally, he only takes the easiest-to-obtain options, and even then, only the portions that no other would want to use - for example, the last scraggly foot or so of a roll of bandages to wrap a serious injury - because he doesn't believe that he is deserving enough of something better - such as a full cast or splint with fresh wrappings from a new roll. His wings are often neglected and wind up dirty and tangled, inhibiting his flight and causing him some levels of pain - something a friend would remedy, if only he would allow one in.
A Friend... Or Two.
Matreki won't go through life without a buddy, of course. He's a sad little ball of rotting adoration, but that is not for forever. One of his closes friends, and someone he will, in time, spend much of his life with, is my Jelly Bean Dragon, Gizmo. Gizzy's a giant fluffball of love and cuddles, and would love nothing more than to spend hours caring for and snuggling with someone who so obviously needs it. Gizmo also has the right kind of paws to care for Matreki's wing grooming needs, though he's also going to need to find someone to teach the little halfling gryphon to get in the air and soar - luckily, though... the dragon knows just the right kind of creature.
Samael, like Matreki, is an oddball and a forced recluse. He gets it. He's looked upon warily for having an extra set of wings - as Jefferson Starships usually only have one pair - and the second set's mere presence has always cut him a little too close for comfort. But he's also adapted, and has managed to learn to cope with flight using all four wings; and he would be absolutely willing to teach a fellow "four-winger" how to get in the air and stay there. It'd do them both a great amount of good.
