Use
I've been looking for a good companion for my two favorite cat characters. While I never would have thought I'd put them in a same gendered couple, I can only see them that way now. Now that I've gotten back into seriously practicing sketching, I plan on drawing this couple and the three of the felines together - both to give them love and to practice on group shots; I've already started sketching in my notebooks the mated pair and all three of them together for practicing purposes. They'll be included in my stories and will likely even get to interact with other adoptables - as I have developed a humanoid who takes in different animals from a wide variety of species and cares for them~

Getting Through the Basics
Name
Amaryllis. A flower of red, white, or pink hue with strap-like petals; also a family type of flowers. It has come to represent pride, determination and radiant beauty.
She prefers going by her given name, but sometimes lets her companions call her Mari.

Gender
Amaryllis considers herself to be female.

Age
Amaryllis is a young'in, at only two years old. It is believed she was born around February 23, 2012

Species
She is a mixed cat, although it's believed she may have Somali, Balinese, American Curl, or Javanese in her - or a mix of these breeds and others; this is part because of her more short-hair body and her semi bottlebrush tail. To make it easy though, her owner says she's a Red silver or Cream tabby mix.

Sexual Orientation
Amaryllis considered herself asexual growing up. And she really didn't change preferences until recently, feeling comfortable in saying that she is homoflexible - interested in the same gender, but understands that things happen and everyone can change.

Romantic Orientation
Amaryllis thinks that she is panromantic. She's always liked the idea of romance, and has indulged in it with others no matter their gender or identity.

Going a Little Deeper
Personality
This lovely feline is quite aware of herself. She knows of her faults, but also of her assets. While she is willing to consider the fact that she can change, she has found altering her inherent self is difficult and has given up trying to change who she is. And in the past year, she's found she could care less of others' opinions of her; so long as she is happy with who she is, then she is fine.

Amaryllis is an intelligent cat when it comes to street smarts; she can survive on her own with little in favor and still fare well. However, in regards to any kind of book smarts or even social intelligence, she isn't the sharpest. This can lead her to seeming to be gullible, although it is less likely to occur with an individual she doesn't know or trust much. Thanks to growing up on the streets, she's highly perceptive of her surroundings and is able to read a situation pretty well. And if a situation gets sticky, she can get pretty creative using her surroundings to help get her out of it; it doesn't hurt that luck seems to favor her as well. Usually, though, thanks to her caution and careful planning, she doesn't find herself in dangerous situations.

Normally, this feline is quiet and seems to be introverted; and is quite content to just do her own thing and let others do what they wish. Despite being mostly withdrawn, Amaryllis - when she wants to be - is an amazing communicator. She has a natural way with words, able to persuade others whenever she is determined to do so. It isn't perfect, but in most of her encounters with others, she has helped others to see her point on things. However, if she ever finds herself backed into a corner, and unable to convince others not to harm her - or those she's protecting - she can become an aggressive furball of determined teeth and claws. It is at times like these, when she or those she cares for are in danger, that Amaryllis is the most dangerous. She is unpredictable in her behavior, apart from the passion she seems to be fueled by in a desire to protect her loved ones.

Amaryllis is definitely a loner at heart. While she loves spending time with those she cares about, she likes doing things on her own. This feline dislikes accepting help from others, preferring to go about her tasks and business in a solitary manner. Many who have met her in passing think she is arrogant or even rude. This isn't the case. She is merely prideful in that she got to where she was on her own - and she knows herself best; with only one individual she has less to worry about should a situation go awry.

History
Amaryllis grew up a street cat. Her mother was a light cream tabby who'd once had owners but had gotten separated from them after a stint with the pound. So she was raised to be self-sufficient; and to be wary but not entirely distrustful of humans. This advice proved to be helpful for some of the stray family, but not all.

For the first month of life, their mother left them little. She'd stick close by for hunting and scavenging - fearing losing the last of her family while she was away. Her mother fretted over the dangers that came with living on the streets, things like cars, stray dogs, territorial cats, cruel humans, and even wild animals. After their second month, Amaryllis and her littermates were allowed to roam small areas surrounding their little nesting sight nestled underneath a shed; always under the watchful gaze of their doting mother. While still wobbly on their paws, they began to learn more of the world they'd only scented and heard from the shadows beneath the wooden structure. It was both wonderful and terrifying for the small cats. They found themselves tumbling in plush grass, coughing up dust and car exhaust, running under cerulean skies, chasing colorful butterflies and beetles, hiding from booming thunder and car horns, shivering in rain and mud puddles, and running from barks and yips of wild canines.

Slowly, as they grew older, their mother let them move around more. Once they were more sure in their footing, the kittens were permitted to wander about both under the watch of their parent and while she was out hunting. However, they were never allowed past the treeline or anywhere near anything that humans could hurt them with - streets with their cars, bicycles, etc. This was fine for the small kittens of only a few months of age. The world was large and full of many scary things, even as they were intriguing.

However, this couldn't last. After her kits were six months old, they grew bolder, braver, and more inquisitive. They wanted to know of the world around them and were eager to begin preparing to live on their own. This didn't settle well with the over-protective mother. She tried to keep up her strict rules, but her kits were no longer helpless and were growing minds and personalities of their own. Amaryllis was no different in that aspect.

And so began a slow going process of learning how to survive in the wilds. Their mother was no expert, but she was a tenacious thing that used her knowledge to help her survive despite having grown up as a house cat. Amaryllis and her littermates first learned how to stalk, which allowed their mother to keep them closer to the shed. Then they practiced just past the treeline - never going deep into the shadowed foliage, always staying where the sun still shone brightly. They also were made to practice their fleeing skills such as climbing up and down trees - the latter of which caused many a problem for all the cats - building up stamina for longer sprinting stints, and learning to find hiding places dangerous beings couldn't follow them into.

It was after the kits had thought themselves masters of their mother's teachings that tragedy struck. The kits had begun becoming more independent and tended to come and go from the shed as they pleased. They upset their mother, but she knew that her kits were no longer helpless babes who needed her to watch over them. It was in their seventh month of life that three of the five young cats died - all within a week of one another. The first had bolted from a feral dog and into the street rather than a nearby tree; he died shortly thereafter from broken bones and internal bleeding. The second was the oldest of the litter, who found herself impounded when animal control caught her in a trap meant for some other animal. They never saw the black and white feline with the broken tail again. The last was of another of Amaryllis's brothers. He'd found himself the cruel joke target of a gang of young teenage boys - pelted with BBs and stones. He too died of internal bleeding and a few broken bones.

This turned Amaryllis from humans for some time. All she saw was the cruelty of the creatures who stood so tall on two legs. She forgot of the stories of her mother's childhood, being raised by kind, loving humans. She became a nearly complete feral cat as she fought to survive amongst wildlife and other strays. It was because of this that she traveled from the city and found herself living in a place crossed somewhere between rural and suburban. Of course she didn't know this. She only saw that rodents were plentiful and that there was plenty of space for each stray to live without being on top of one another - fighting constantly.

It was after she'd been settled here for a few months that she first encountered the bold and older Eylani. She'd recently turned a year old and found herself well off in her new home. However, a wrench was thrown into her life as the mixed long haired feline began to pester her. First it was teasing flirtations - stuff that didn't mean anything to either cat. Amaryllis merely ignored them and tried to continue on with her life. But somehow she found herself spending time with both Eylani and her darker coated daughter - Rikki. She didn't know how it happened or really when, but suddenly she found herself looking forward to spending time with the two house cats. And through the two pets, she learned that not all humans are to be mistrusted. It was when she was a year and half old that she 'officially' moved in with the owner and became Eylani's partner. They have now been together for half a year and look forward to the days and years ahead of them.

Preferences
Amaryllis loves spending time outside, wandering about with Eylani and Rikki. She also enjoys sunbathing, preferably in sun-dappled light with the wind tugging gently through her fur.

This feline doesn't mind being around others, so long as they aren't overly rude or ignorant. She also doesn't mind getting wet here and there, although she has to be in the mood to do so.

Finally, Amaryllis hates snow and ice - it's far too cold for her tastes. And she isn't overly fond of being completely alone or isolated from others.

Amaryllis doesn't have many she considers close in her life. Her partner is most important to her. This is followed closely by the love she has for her adopted daughter, Rikki; she is also portrayed above and to the right and is the black-and-silver tabby bobtail.

Lifestyle
Amaryllis is a part-time house cat. Most of the day, she wanders the neighborhood and area beyond. However, as late night approaches or a storm rolls in, she takes shelter in the home of the human who took her in - Eylani and Rikki's owner.
