I've also decided, for that last physical feature I've been missing. It will be that the wings, tail and tail feathers, aren't even part of the Avyloci at all. They're a separate organism called a Symphylux, that have evolved with the Avyloci and formed a mutual symbiosis. The Symphylux absorbs 'thought energy' (I'm not even going to try and explain how that works o3o) and in return, the Avyloci have use of the appendages. @Ciruin; Wow, those look great! Really nice job with making them unique from each other! The only thing I could think of is that Finnian's eyes look a touch too far apart? Unless that's the look you're going for. Also, some more shading around the hair, face and one one side of the clothes (Perhaps also more on Jasper's jumper to give it more depth) might me helpful?

Other than that, I've got another picture I would love some anatomy critique or redlining help with before I go through and do the proper lines and colours. Keep in mind, the eyes are supposed to be proportionally large for the orange, blue and green characters.
I'm also having trouble with the sky blue character lying down. I'm not great at poses to begin with and it doesn't look relaxed or natural enough

I have tried to sketch him here but am wondering if I should've drawn him fluffy then converted him to robot, because it's a bit tough. I added some extra pieces, particularly around the legs, to try and get his proportions right in my picture. Any suggestions or redlines?

Nix your sketch looks great, I know nothing of drawing people so can't help you with your lying down charrie but he doesn't look too awkward to me. I don't think his right pocket is in the correct position for his foot though? Or maybe the foot's the thing facing the wrong way and should be more towards us? Idk sorry I'm not much help ^^;

Ciriun those look cool. Finnian's eyes seem a little far apart? Idk if it will look better or not but have you thought of putting a bit of hair in front of Rue's ears so it's not all tucked behind? Just a thought.

Wolfsong the mouth expression looks good, I'm not sure the back legs look right though, the rump looks a bit small maybe? I only recently started working on back legs so you are best to get someone to redline for you.

For hair I'm thinking brunette to match the armouring, and maybe long so she looks a bit elf like?

I wasn't sure of your pose so I kept it as neutral as I could. Your proportions were decent, but the head felt small and squished. If this is going to be a reference, it's nice to have a neutral pose, but if you want your character to pop out, I'd suggest trying a more dynamic pose. Have your character do something typical for them. Neutral poses are good for outfit designs and such, but dynamic poses on refs tell so much more about the character. Unless you only want to show their details, then it's all good.

I also suggest playing with line thickness. Have a little bit of variety. Enable pen pressure if this is possible.

Throw in a little bit of variety. All your poses are quite similar. Everyone pretty much has their legs in the same position. Try switching some things up. Have a character lean against another, shift the weight to a different leg. Have someone put their legs closer together, or wider. Play around a little. Also, make sure you have enough space on the faces. The lady in red has so much hair that her facial features are all crammed into the bottom part of her face, making it look like she has no chin. Bump up her facial features a little, or reduce the hair to create a little space.

Also, mind your proportions a bit. I know it's hard on group drawings, and kudos on drawing so many chars in one pic (it's a hard thing to do), but some of the proportions are slightly off. The green male's right hand is smaller than his left.

I'm loving that dude on the ground, though. What a go-getter.


This isn't to anyone in particular, but I've noticed this so often. Collar bones. Usually people try to draw them in, but have no idea where they go. They end up being placed randomly. Same with the lines on the neck that people love to draw (including me). This are kinda my personal thoughts so take it with a grain of salt.



If you're going for a slim, feminine looking neck (or the neck of a young person), just leave it clear. You don't need to define muscles, they are often not visible under normal conditions. You can draw them for men if you want, but same as the previous one, unless the character is under stress, very muscular, or twisting his head, the muscles aren't always visible. Personally, I just like drawing lines. But that's me.

As for those pesky collar bones.. They connect to the shoulders. I like to define shoulders by circles, just to make it easier for me. That usually tells me where the collar bones start. But again, this is how I do things, so it's not 100% correct. Perhaps it helps, though.

What a cute character! And his name is really adorable as well. He's reminding me of those old robot dog toys that were really cool for a while ; u ;
And oh man robots can be tricky, particularly if not based directly on an organic form to get joints down.

I think it might help if you limber him up, though that's a design choice entirely up to you. He could work well compact, but it just might be easier to get the joints down if his legs were longer to allow more space between the various joints. I notice that the drawing of him by Uranium Kisses has fairly long legs as well, though that could also be chocked down to style choice

The main thing to consider with a robot I think is how it''s going to move. Since the separate body parts are stiffer, every single part that is going to move needs to be flexible, have some sort of movable joint, or a hinge. Think of it in terms of a ball joint doll-- and maybe even reference from them as well.

From there you can pick and choose how much movement to give to the robot character. In my redline I've added a hinge to the mouth, rounded out the back knee, and made the stomach more intricate to give it a wider range of movement-- but if you don't want the belly to bend, your design works fine as is.
I do suggest more of a circular knee joint for the back leg, though, for best possible movement.

I drew some circles on the plates for the shoulders and hips to sort of suggest where they are anchored on the body, but I only put them there to maybe suggest varying up the textures and designs on the metal itself. The bolts on the face are extremely cute, so putting more textures and other mechanic designs throughout the design could carry the robot concept really well throughout : D

So I'm new here... I've never posted here before (I don't think) and I have a question;
Does anyone use Paint Tool Sai for photo manips? I got one free so it might not have all tools.. I'm just kind of confused because I don't know what/how anything to do for a manip ;n;

I don't have PS and can't access it, and I don't know where to download GIMP that it will actually download on my comp.

Sorry if this isn't allowed; I'm tired, read the rules, they may have slipped my mind ;o;

I would guess as long as the feedback is in the same post as the art you're showing it still counts regardless of the order, but I'm new here so I may be wrong.

I didn't want to change the design too much as it works well with the original artist's style, but I can't really translate that into my own without adding more joints and if I'm going to do that I may as well go the whole way rather than try to minimise it. I'll resketch him when I have time and report back, and I most definitely will use those lovely legs you designed <3

Wolfsong I don't understand your question? If you are confused about the rules, they are on the front page of the thread. The one Clowesia was referring to is one stating you should comment on artworks in the last 10 posts when you post artwork of your own for review, so when you go to make a post about you art, you should also look through the post history underneath and comment on everyone's work that you can see there since it goes back 10 pages. Since Clowesia didn't post any artwork, their post did not require doing this, if that is what you are referring to.

I wouldn't go as far to calling it a tutorial. More like tiny notes on stuff.
I mostly just do it by feel. When you know where the bone starts and how it's shaped, it's generally easy to get the angle right. When in doubt, the internet is full of references, though. And looking in a mirror always helps.
