Probably personality, likes and dislikes, little things like that.

If somebody has a character but you can't afford it, what do you do? Walk (or click) away? Haggle the price?
Click away. I know if I thought about it I would spend money to try and afford it.

Their own worlds. Sometimes I'll have them meet in one world or the other, but it's only a one time thing.

What do you focus on with your characters? Art? Stories? Something fun to look at?

Stories for me. I love writing. I dabble in art a bit, too, but I'm really not as good as most people care to look at art by XD Writing is my passion, though, and it's what I use characters for. I don't really intend to use them in a book or anything. Mostly I just write short stories or scenes about them.

About 90% of my human characters live in the same world, which is Earth but many, many centuries after an apocalyptic event. The technology is basically gone, and only remnants of the old world still exist. They live in different cities and countries, so many of them don't actually interact with one another, and are only indirectly connected. The other 10% are OCs for fandoms, and belong in their respective worlds.

As for my animal characters, about 70% of them just live in present day Earth. But most of them live in different countries, and so they never actually interact. They have their own bubble of existence in the same world, I suppose. The other 30% are in entirely different worlds of their own.

Hmnn.. Art most likely and stories - it depends on how attached I am to the character. Personally, I think somewhere very deep inside, everyone own characters because they represent a life or existence they dream or hope to achieve on some small level.

Well since characters life on a whole 'nother dimension that I can never hope to reach - as reluctant as I might be, I will walk away. Believing that I'll always find a better character in the future as well. Also, it would make me feel horrible if I threw everything I have just for that one character that caught my fancy in that split moment - if in the future I lose interest in it, it'll be a complete waste of my effort and time.
Obviously, it does not mean I will always give up. I will try my best, with art, with what I can afford for those I 'think' suits me.

Does comics count as stories? Well I don't specifically, sit down and write a story for my characters. But they do have their own history and backgrounds that come from different worlds and time periods. I've been planning on starting a comic for quite some time and have done some OCTs as practice C;
