I have the same problem with whatever I make, the salamanders I've made so far are based on characters from old cartoons and people are naming them Shard and Cheshire and I'm like, "Dude, how do you not know that's Waffle from Catscratch!" I don't see people naming Tris from Divergent "Katniss", so why not LABEL the character it's based on?

I don't mind them having different names (a Blackberry named Raspberry would be kind of funny XD).
They aren't really characters though. I saw some episodes of Catscratch some years ago, because they were on tv late in the evening (I don't like the humour every time though).
