Eric's personality clashed painfully with Tobias's and every second they spent in the same room was another second that Tobias really just wanted to attack the guy. Sometimes he thought it'd be utterly satisfying to just rip the guy's throat out. But, for the sake of his security, he had to refrain. Tobias watched Eric pick his weapons, noting that the man picked the same ones as him. That much they had in common, so that much he knew Eric would respect him for. Luckily for both of them the general called Eric aside and the two left for the kitchen. Tobias narrowed his eyes with suspicion and curiosity, knowing that he could use his hearing to pick up on their conversation. Just as he began to tune in, a voice from his side--painfully loud due to his eavesdropping sensitivity levels--spoke. "So, how about it, Toby?"
"Whaaaa--?" Toby murmured, dazed by the loudness. He turned to Hayley, a hand rubbing at his ear with hopes to alleviate the pain.
"Want to team up with me?" Tobias paused, considering Hayley's earlier proposition. He looked towards the door just then, sighing under his breath because of the fact Lucy hadn't shown up. Who knew if she was even a part of the team anymore. She seemed like she'd been close to quitting for weeks and her fearfulness had never made her very useful. It was a bad sign for him, her not being there, because now he'd have to pair up with someone that might actually notice something amiss. He refocused his eyes on Hayley just in time to catch her saying "I'm not sure I can do this alone." He frowned deeply. Normal ears may not have heard her speak, but he did not possess normal ears. Hoping to lighten her mood a bit, he procured a wide, goofy grin.
"Sure, that'd be great!" he declared cheerfully, even though it really wouldn't be great. It'd honestly suck; a lot. She was too attentive and he was worried he'd be too hungry to care. Not to mention the fact she was braver than Lucy had been--Lucy'd always avoided endangering herself and therefore avoided getting injured... and therefore avoided Tobias ever being tempted to possibly use her as a source of food. The last thing he needed was Hayley getting cocky, getting hurt and then himself possibly blowing his cover. He figured he had enough self-control, but this was the first time he'd ever been faced with a battle while as hungry as he was. "Glad to have my own personal Katniss," he teased, leaning back further against the controls and lounging comfortably.
Just then Phyllis and Eric finally strolled back into the room from the kitchen and Tobias nearly cursed under his breath, recalling that he'd been planning to eavesdrop on them. He cursed under his breath a little, sitting up straight again and listening as Phyllis made up some phony excuse about getting soup in her eyes. Hardly being able to hold back an eye roll, he perked his eyebrows a bit. Phyllis had definitely been crying, that much was obvious. As a predator himself, he could practically smell the fear rolling off of her... but she put up a good front and he gave her props for that. If the vampires ever caught her he'd have to put in a personal note to tell them to turn her instead of killing her. She'd be incredibly useful. Lastly, she muttered something about the others that hadn't shown up and told them not to feel sorry for them--of course, Tobias didn't. If anything, he was sorry that they weren't going to get killed for being the cowards they were.
Phyllis armed herself and Tobias followed suit, standing up tall next to Hayley and throwing her a look of "you ready?" Phyllis opened the door, nodding to them all, and Tobias stepped up behind her to follow her outside.
