Amanda ran along with him as he took her hand again, squeezing tighter and tighter as they ran down the stairs. She heard heard her heart pounding in her chest as they barely made it into the house in time, and by the time they were in the basement tears were running down her face. She was terrified, they had just barely made it into the house, and they could have died. "W-we made it D-drew." She gasped, and didn't let go of his hand. She felt like she could trust him, and she wanted to trust him. She just hoped that she didn't end up getting hurt. She never trusted people, and there was a reason. Because she always ended up crushed, that's why. She wanted to be safe, for once in her life, she wanted to feel safe. The past few days had been so crazy. What was going to happen to them? "What's going to happen to us?" She murmured quietly. Did he really trust her and like her? Or was he pretending? She tried to get this out of her mind, but it was hard to, with nothing else to do, the worried thoughts clouded her mind. She looked around the basement with a worried gaze, wondering what was going to happen to them all. How were they going to survive this? She just prayed that the rain wouldn't get into the house and flood the basement. AFter all, it wasn't normal rain, right?

His head was still reeling as he stumbled towards his house, the adrenaline had faded entirely and his muscles ached. Why did his muscles ache? Why did his head ache? Why did everything he touched die? The dog five minutes ago had dropped dead at his feet when he went to pet it, those two boys were dead because of him. It wasn’t his fault though, they’d picked a fight they couldn’t handle. But he hadn’t meant to kill them, had he? No, that wasn’t it. He’d never killed anyone before, hospitalized sure, but never made somebody’s soul shatter and dissipate like that. Souls didn’t exist, did they? Everything he’d seen told him otherwise though, okay he hadn’t seen them but he sure as hell had felt them.
Everything around him blurred together as his vision tunnelled, then flickered back again. For some moments details were crystal clear, and the next they were hardly existent. A meow echoed behind him, tiny and frail and he turned around, screwing his eyes to focus on the cat. A kitten really, it was small a jet black with electric blue eyes and a white splash under its left eye. “Mew?” It cocked it’s heads to look at him curiously. His knees shook and he stepped tentatively towards it. “C-catssss are guardiansss of tha dead...” he slurred as though he were drunk and as he reached the cat he touched it tentatively.
A loud hiss echoed from it’s small chest and it sprung away from him, alive and well, but scared. That much he could tell, from the fluffed fur, wide eyes and arched back. He cracked a small grin. So cats were immune, well this one was anyways. That was a start, he’d felt it’s life force, but it had been different, unlike the others. Almost like a ghost. His grin faded as his vision tunnelled again and he stood back up.
He turned and walked away, leaving the frightened kitten behind him. His house was close and he stumbled out of the alley across the lawn and onto the porch. The door knob didn’t twist in his hands like he expected and he walked right into the door. Of course his brother had locked it, why wouldn’t he. He fished a key from one of his many pockets, fumbling with it and nearly dropping it before he managed to get the door unlocked to let himself in.
Inside he pushed the door closed and staggered into the kitchen, taking his leftover subway from the fridge and tossing the wrapped carelessly onto the counter. He chewed, taking huge vicious bites as he made his way to the living room, but as he walked he needed to do something first and wandered into his brother’s room. He knew they were around here somewhere, yes! Gloves! He would’ve preferred fingerless gloves, but he couldn’t risk that so he settled on pulling the thin black magic mitts over his pale hands as he stumbled back to the living room. He just pulled them on before he dropped onto the couch like a ton of bricks, asleep before his head even hit the arm rest.

Shrieking was still erupting behind him and he ground his teeth together in frustration. The little girl was going to get herself and everyone around her killed if she didn’t straighten out her priorities. But that wasn’t his problem, if she was too stupid to follow then the radiation could have her. Of course that was just his bitterness talking, he wasn’t actually like that. He couldn’t just leave a child to die, or really anyone for that matter. Not like his brother, he was certain Adam had no qualms about life and death.
He shook his head and clenched his jaw harder, still pushing himself away from the two. Hopefully Quinn would at least have the common sense to follow him. But then again, he was a stranger, who were they to trust him? He was lucky his house was on the outskirts of town, it wasn’t that far away he was there within a few minutes. He rolled to the steps, then swiftly kicked his skateboard up and took them two at a time. He almost slammed into the door in his haste but remembered it was locked. Wait, no it wasn’t.
The door hung open a few centimetres and a small frown etched itself onto his face. He knew the house had been locked; he’d left after everyone else and had made sure to close it up. The key was even hanging off of one of the belt loops on his jeans. “Oh for Christ’s sake,” he hissed under his breath, “swear to god if someone raided my house I’m going to electrocute them into next week.”
He nudged the door open and propped his skateboard against the wall next to it before closing it quietly behind him. Everything looked to be in order, well as in order as his house ever was. Nothing was missing and the holes in the walls had always been there. His house was shoddy and unkempt, by no means a perfect or wealthy home, just like back in Canada. He peeked around the corner looking in the kitchen, nothing it was fine but there was a subway wrapped on the counter. That hadn’t been there. He moved on, checking each room and finding few things out of place. His room was empty, his ‘caretakers’ room was empty, Adam’s room was empty.
Of course the living room was the last place he checked although it probably should’ve been the first seeing at it was basically the first room when you walked into his house. Upon entering he gave a heavy sigh and could’ve slammed his head into the wall. Of course it had been Adam, who else would it be? His younger twin was pass out on the couch, flat on his back with one arm draped over his stomach and the other propping his head up, his mouth hung open slightly. Kevin smirked, this was about the only time his brother ever looked vulnerable and innocent. But, had he always been so pale? And why was he wearing gloves?
He shook his head and went back down the hall to his own room, slinging his backpack to the floor as well as his skateboard which he had grabbed on the way. Then he crossed the hall to Adam’s room and grabbed his thick black duvet. He hadn’t understood his brother and the monochromatic feel to him. His entire was black and white, even the wall were painted black with white trim. It was nice, but a little dark. A voice rang outside and he knew automatically that Quinn and the girl had followed. That was good. As he padded the door he slung the blanket over his brother who gripped it around himself and curled up. Who could ever think he was scary?
“Wha’chu want?” He greeted, shutting the door behind him. His anger had evaporated but he still needed the two to listen to him, even if it was just for the time being. “Alright, this might sound crazy to you guys but, uh, heh, I have a fallout shelter in my basement. What we need to do is gather supplies from nearby houses before other people realized what’s going on and come looking. We might also need to stockpile on weapons and ammunition. I’d prefer lots, because if worse comes to worse we can used them as bartering supplies.” Alright, so maybe this kid spent a little too much time playing his video games, but it was still a plan and he thought it was a good one.
“Now, I’m going to go inside and gather what I can. Do you guys have any other plans or ideas?” He looked at Quinn as he spoke, seeing as the older boy was probably more likely to have a better idea on what to do in this situation. His veins hummed as he waited for an answer, and hoped against hope that the little girl wouldn’t go on another shrieking rampage of hers. Of course, he realized that Quinn would piece together the relationship between him and Adam as soon as he saw him, and that might not be a good thing. But it couldn’t be helped.

Hannah-Nora was sure that, at any moment, she would go crazy. The silence was excruciating, and even worse that Lucy’s silence! ... Now having the marsh-mellows in the reptile’s nostrils, the creature had gotten unusually silent. She now prodded its face and, frowning, pulled out a marsh-mellow. Oh. So it was still breathing. Huh. She had thought that suffocation normally didn’t take that long, because her pet goat Freddy had died in a matter of seconds... of course, that one had been a bit, ahem, more gruesome. But apparently, it depended on the animal being massacred.
The Jamaican girl walked hesitantly up the steps behind Quinn, holding his hand the whole way. She looked over her shoulder and saw, in the distance, kids evacuating into the Town Hall. Even from here, she could hear the patter of rain on roofs. “I suggest we betta get in da house, now, mon,” she murmured, glancing up at Quinn. Then she got one of those Looks on her face. Her expression twisted into a smile and she began rubbing her chubby hands together, like a witch ready to start brewing up a batch of goodies. “Or trow Ke-von out and eat all da poptats fa our selve!” She displayed what she had caught in Animal Planet of how a monkey displays dominance, by also throwing in her vicious eye-twitch and insane laughter.
When the four-foot girl walked into the house, the first thing she spotted was the glass. Aha! So she’d shatter all of that first, just to rile Kevin up, and then she’d move onto the art thrown about the room. Shred all of that with her bare fists, she would! She was about to tumble into the room and unleash her overwhelming capacity of her overbearing presence, when she came to a crashing halt, seeing another boy. “Is he dead, mon!?” She cried, grabbing harshly at her throat with a hand-- he had scared her to death, seeing some unconscious... big... looming guy just lying there in her home! ... Alright, not exactly her home, but perhaps her future home--after all, she and Kevin were already engaged, right? Or was that Quinn? She couldn’t recall. Hesitantly, the vibes-girl took a step forward, snatched the pillow off the couch and slammed it over the boy’s snoring mouth. “GET SOME DUCT TAPE, MON!”

This girl was so utterly screechy and dramatized that Karsten was just plain annoyed. Did she not know that he could shoot her a deathly glance and she be knocked out cold? Of course not! She would be scared to death! And about just killed herself, being all reckless and stupid. All Karsten saw was her jerk back and wack herself so hard on the back of the head, get a nose bleed. Because of trying to kill Karsten, she almost killed herself. It's funny how things work, isn't it? Karsten looked at the small hole in the wall, and, struggling weakly feel his way over to the wall, stuck a moist piece of pink gum into the hole, to make sure nothing got into the room. It didn't matter anyways, he was most likely infected, and was already slowly slipping into hysteria.
Finally, the banging around stopped, and through clouded vision he stumbled over to the door, unlocked it, and the girl fell through, bounced off the play-trampoline, onto the carpeted ground. She was out, her eyes closed, but was still breathing. "She's fine." Karsten stated, refusing to lose his mind. The teenage boy stumbled over to Cass, bending down and simply staring at her. How incredibly weird he was acting, just randomly staring at Cass while her friend lay unconscious just feet away, and Jared going insane, saying that they will die. They will indeed not! Not if it was up to the German boy. But it's not. Will they actually die? Vanish just like the adults did? What if this storm will make them all disappear too?
Dark thoughts clouded Karsten's mind, but it's not going to drive him through these hard times. No no, these catastrophes, these.. these..
All of a sudden the tall, stocky figure of Jessi popped up, as fiesty and angry as ever, and Karsten immediately was up on alert, even in his crazy frame of mind. He somewhat protected Cass by holding a fork out to Jess before she tried something. "Bleib weg von mir, du bist derjenige, der mich überlief, ich tat nichts! Lassen mir sein!" {"Just stay away from me, you're the one who ran me over, i did nothing! leave me be!"} His words were sharp and piercing, and his voice was deeper than usual. He seemed stronger. With Cass calli him a 'hopeless immigrant', radioactive rain pouring from the black sky outside, and all the adults gone, he was still here. Alive.

Two things occured to Jared at the precise moment when Cassie fired the gun and she and the weapon hit the ground. One, Cassie was going to be no use, whining over her probably broken. Jared didn't know how he knew that, but he did. Two, the German kid had to be stopped and they needed Jessi. If she really was able to heal and they all really were infected with radiation poisoning, the two just seemed to go together. Jared knew that gun was the key to that.

Jared dived, leaped, pounced, and all of those other verbs, while the German kid... Kristen? Karsten?... grabbed Cassie. His fingers wrapped around the grip as he pushed himself to his feet. The world slowed to a crawl as Jared raised the gun and evenly aimed. Karsten grabbed Cassie. Jared moved to the wall, eyes never leaving Karsten, and reached through, feeling fabric and hair and pulling. There was no thought in it, no realization of what he was doing. Jessi came through, seeming as if she would literally tear everybody to shreds. Karsten was speaking. A different language, but the sounds and words he knew so well turned over in his mind, translating into English.

With a quick glance, Jared made sure the safety was off. That his finger was on the trigger. "Listen," he said, his lips forming the German words, the accent perfect. Jared silently thanked his grandmother for speaking only German. "We're not going to hurt you, and we didn't mean to hit you with the van. Jessi can't really drive at all. We just want our friend. We all probably have radiation poisoning because the rain was radioactive, but Jessi can somehow heal people. Honestly, we just want to go home. So, let Cassie go and you can be healed too."

    J A C K ~ p o w e r l e s s ~ S T U D E N T t a g g e d ----> micah

When Jack came back to the front of the house, Micah was herding kids into the houses. Jack looked up and saw a wave of water crash down far away. His skin went pale and he walked backward in a daze. However, Micah's voice snapped him out of his stupor. Quick, take these supplies to the town hall! Jack grabbed the supplies and ran as fast as he could to the town hall, and toward the water. He ran into the door at full speed, unable to slow himself down. Jack fumbled with the door handle, then ran inside. He ran up to the nearest person and handed them off to the man, then ran back outside. The water was much closer now. Jack ran back to the house, trying to keep his breath even. He wasn't all too good at it. When he reached Micah, the kid was still herding kids into houses, shouting at the oldest ones. Jack bent over with his hands on his knees, breathing heavily.

"I took the supplies," Jack breathed to Micah. He stood up, taking in a big breath of air, then walked into the house he'd patched up. He followed the kids into the house and into the basement. It was a bit cramped down there, but Jack successfully found a box holding a Christmas Tree and sat on it. He didn't think they'd be needing it any longer. He then looked around for Micah, making sure the young man had found his way down there.

Micah felt rustled into the room, something he really didn’t approve of, but didn’t really have a chance to argue about it either. In the cramped space, of smelling body odors and seeing kid’s face every place he turned, he scowled, already hating himself for going in. He was being a coward. That was the hard thing to admit: defeat. If he wanted to, he could have just pretended like he had fallen behind. Behind with his Mama and Papa, and gone off to see them wherever that could be. But he didn’t.
The African-American boy immediately felt space spread and people peel away from him. They were entering the basement. He caught sight of Drew and Amanda and looked away. Then he spotted Jack. As much as he hated to admit it, the boy wasn’t too bad of company. Until, that was, when it came to arguing about scientific research. He came over, his dark eyes scanning the periphery of kids, some old, some young, all getting situated in their “camping area” until the tink, tink, tinking of rain drops ceased from ahead. This was going to be a long and dreaded camp night.
He waded over to Jack. “Hey, travelin’ Jack,” He said, smirking a little. Why not put on a pleasant face? It wasn’t like he could do anything else. Unless get drunk. When it came to getting drunk, that was one service he could offer without grumble. He said down, wincing a little. His leg had stopped bleeding a while ago, and even though the pain killers did some part of the trick, it wasn’t all of it. There was still a gnawing, angry pain deep in his leg. And for a moment he wondered if he had got a nerve or something. Nah: if he had gotten a nerve, he’d be bawling. And Micah Judd was not one to bawl in front of people.
“I don’t think this is just going to be some summer camp,” he muttered.

Her nose was falling off—this is what she was sure of. Cassie wobbled, too infatuated with the gushing of her nose to take into account balance. Her nose! Had she shot it clean off? The pain was enough, a violent pulsing in her nose that made her grimace. And then suddenly somebody was grabbing her, but the Youtuber—engrossed with how much blood she was losing and, definitely feeling light-headed—barely noticed.
It was when she heard the guttural dialect that she looked up from her hand, cupping her nose. “Jawed?” Wow. Was that her voice? It sounded nasally and raspy. She glanced at Karsten… who was holding her. Oh. So that was who it was. Huh. Then she saw the gun in Jared’s hand. “Holwey Zaba ze unkey, Jawed! Whah are you doin’!?” Cassie let go of her handful of blood, letting the frothy crimson splat to the ground. She shook her hand in an attempt to get free of it.
Jessi was there. Cassie blinked. How did…? She raised a finger, pointing to the wall, where Jessi had been outside. Until, that was, Jared had pulled her through. Hmm. Pulled her through. Yeah… that… um, that sounded—
“I’m going to pass out,” she choked, falling limp against Karsten. Why was he even holding her in the first place? She wasn’t of any use to him. Unless she was being used as a hostage. “And… and then I’m going to have a seizure. Yep. I’m 43% sure this time.”

"You know what? I am so fed up with your stupidity tha-" He stopped himself. He would dare. Karsten wouldn't dare to let foggy vision and a rush of adrenalin get tahr best of him. It wasn't going to happen. She wasn't worth it. "I'm not your enemy. Stop trying to make me one, it's useless. This isn't your town, get it in your brain. You can't control us. I was only trying to help these guys, and I was going to let you in here if Jared here would've given me a moment more." The dog sat in the corner, surprisingly just watching everything. He never made a peep.
"I saw a man. Somebody. Before the flash, since the camera has color, it was pale skin and dark eyes. That's all I saw. If you would only listen to me we could find out why we are trapped."
"I just don't understand why you acting acting this way around me. Was I the one who wanted myself to join your little group? No! Am I the one who let everyone to safety? Think about it." Karsten focused on a battery-powered lantern that was the only source of light, at least what everyone in the room though, and with a loud pop noise the bulb exploded inside the class. The room went pitch-black, and Karsten managed to skitter across the room, swiping the gun out of Jared's hand and feeling along the wall, listening for signs of movement. All he heard was the sound of Bullenbeisser panic and run frantically around the room, every once in a while ramming into Karsten's legs. "It's amazing what you can do, Jessica. But what's ironic that if you lay a finger on me, the more energy you give out." Karsten knew that she couldn't hurt him in any way possible, but one glance at her and she's out cold, or worse. Yet when Jessi had elbowed Karsten, it hurt like heck. She never made contact with his skin.
Karsten was learning to control his power every moment he used it without draining his own energy. Earlier that day he had been knocked unconscious by his own ability, yet now he just blew up a lightbulb without feeling lightheaded, or even feathered. He quickly took out the bullets of the gun, stuffing them in his pocket.

Amanda ran into the basement with him, maybe holding his hand a little too tightly, but she didn't care. He was the only person she wanted to trust right now, and she felt happy enough to be with him. But when they got into the basement, fear tore through her as she saw that most of the people here were townies. The townies hated them! "T-they're going to kill us, Drew. There's only a few of us here, the rest of them are townies. They're going to kill us." He almost pulled him down with her as he sat, since she wouldn't let go of his hand. She sat besides him, her heart pounding, her body shaking. She leaned her head on his shoulder, even though he was quite a bit taller than her. "We're going to die, Drew. We.. I don't want to die. i'm really scared." Why was she pouring out her feelings to him? Because she trusted him, that's why. It felt so good to trust someone, for once. And he was the only one here who she would trust. She stayed beside him, leaned against him, feeling happy, actually. Even if they were going to die, she'd be with someone she liked. "Drew… i trust you." She whispered, closing her eyes for a few moments, his hand still in hers.
