The more commonly used 'blend modes', or layer types, are Multiply, Screen, Overlay and Soft Light and so I'll try to explain what they do.
Multiply is when Oekaki multiplies the base colour by the blend colour. So it will darken that layer, basically.
Screen is the opposite of multiply and basically makes the layer lighter c:
Overlay and soft light basically create higher contrast, which can be great when shading.
I completed a diagram using all of them at one point, which I will go out and attempt to find. I use the same image, just adding different effects.
