The little duck's name is Scooter. Paj used to be friends with a dog named Scooter, who she would always run and play with. Scooter was very kind toward her, and he never left her side, even in great danger. One day, Scooter gave Paj a small, stuffed duckling toy as a gift for her birthday. Paj loved the little toy, and cherished it greatly. However, just the next day, Scooter was captured by a dog-catcher, and taken to the pound. No matter how hard Paj tried, she couldn't locate where the pound had taken her dog friend. So she would never forget him, Paj decided to name the duck Scooter. She keeps the toy in her bed with her every night, and never goes anywhere without it. It stays with her, just like the dog did, and there are often days when she will talk to the duck as if it was her friend.

Why is it named that?
Despite what his name might suggest, Archie was far from brave as a child. Archie was always too nervous to join in on the roughhousing that most of the other young Dusties entertained themselves with, but he was not one who preferred to keep to his own devices either. He wanted a friend, that was certain. One who would be softer on him than the rowdy youngsters who always seemed to be getting themselves into trouble, but also one he could have fun with and wouldn't be a bore. One day, while Archie was walking next to a pond, he noticed a bright yellow object floating near the shore. This object was, of course, the stuffed duck, rather soggy and a bit scuffed up. Since Archie had always been rather fond of ducks (although they'd never really seemed interested in playing with him) and he felt rather bad that the duck had been left all alone, he decided to keep it.

Archie had quite a bit of fun with that duck. He spent the whole afternoon playing various games of make believe with it. It wasn't until the end of the day that Archie really realized that his duck didn't have a name. Deciding that needed to be fixed, Archie formally gave it a name—Buddy, for being a friend he actually enjoyed being around. It may be rather simplistic, but in Archie's young mind, it truly felt like the most special name in the world.

What is the stuffed duck's name? Why is it named that? Richard's stuffed duck is named Mashed Potatoes, because they're his favorite food! He loves to smother them in butter, so he named the yellow duck after them because the stuffed animal reminded him of his favorite food.

Vanille's stuffed duck is named Chocobo for the resemblance it shares with ostrich-like creature from the Final Fantasy series. The Chocobo is a recurring creature in the series, but Vanille didn't name her stuffed duckie after them because of that. She named him Chocobo because of the story of Dajh's Chocobo chick and how his father Sazh cared for it diligently while the father and son were painfully separated. Sazh and the chick saved each other's lives numerous times, creating a strong bond between them. Vanille shares a similar bond with her Chocobo.
