A Makoatl is a terrestrial hybrid that appears to be between a shark and a dragon. They have the powerful tails and jaws of a shark, and occasional horns like a dragon. They usually have manes that run down to their dorsal fin and a furred coat to keep out the cold in their native habitats. They live on a diet of mainly meat and fish and are known to be vicious hunters - specially when they are "frenzied"! Despite this attitude towards their prey, they are very protective to their offspring and to their own kind... usually.

In order to participate in Makoatls, you must agree to these terms and rules. Be sure to read and follow them.
Do not complain about any member (including staff) entering any contest.
No stealing.
Do not bribe the staff or members for anything Makoatl-related.
Normal adopts are not allowed to have powers.
You will treat all staff, members, and admirers with your full respect. No respect no Makoatl.
Staff is appointed; please do not ask to lend a hand or become staff.
Do not take on staff duties. That includes any form of mini-modding.
There are no limits to how many Makoatls you can own from this point on. No co-owning or trading Makoatls.
You may not sell your Makoatl for any type of currency.
Trading and revamping of Makoatls are currently not allowed.
If you are banned from Makoatls, staff have the right to revoke and re-adopt your Makoatls. You may not post images or share your Makoatls publicly and you cannot post in any Makoatl-related threads.
If you want to have your Makoatls "divorce", you must bring it up with me with a reason. Your Makoatl can only "divorce" once.
Do NOT ask for customs.
I will hand out customs to people on my own terms. No complaining if I give some to friends.
When you gift, you must wait 2 months before gaining a new Makoatl (from gifting, winning, or breeding). You will not be able to be gifted back the same the Makoatl at any point.
In order to gift, you must ask me, .Talon, before gifting.
I am allowed to reject any gifting for any reason. I do not have to give you a reason.
Giving a Makoatl without permission can result in a ban and having the Makoatl being taken away.
If you no longer want your Makoatl, you can ask the artist to re-adopt it.
There are no runner ups for re-adoptions.
You may pick the contest type and have a say-so in in judging, but I, Talon, will be the main judge for re-adoptions.
You must wait 2 months between each stage. The 2 months start from the day you own a Makoatl, not the day it was posted.
You may ask artists to grow your Makoatl. If they are busy or you feel like you can grow them, you must ask Talon for permission.
You must show me any growths you do before it's posted.

Makoatls have many identifiers to look for. The primary one is what we call a "ring". There can be more than one ring on a Makoatl, in fact there can be thousands located on the body, but EVERY SINGLE MAKOATL has at least one ring marking on their body. It is unknown why they carry the ring marking from their ancestors... perhaps one day we will find out?
Besides the necessary ring marking, Makoatls can be very different in appearance. Hair, horns, accessories, colors, and tails can be varied. Makoatls posses a mane with runs down the neck which also can vary in length. Any Makoatl with less hair on the mane is incredibly rare and any Makoatl with more hair is equally uncommon.
Though they are said to be related to a dragon, Makoatl always posses the tail of a shark (or shark-like) as opposed to a tail of a dragon. This is unknown as to why, but it seems since they are mostly water-based creatures the shark-like tail became completely dominate in the survival of the Makoatls. They also always posses a dorsal fin.
Horn-wise, Makoatls can possess anything from antlers, to ram horns, to unihorns, to stubby horns. There is no limit to the kind of horns a Makoatl can be found with. The most common forms of horns are: ram, unihorn, and "dragon" horns. Though they have a wide range of horn-types, it's extremely rare to find a Makoatl with more than one set of horns. Not all Makoatls have horns, however! More often than not, Makoatls will have no horns.
Accessories are something very common in Makoatls. Since they are related to dragons, many of them have their eyes on things to collect. Some collect natural things: shells, coral, starfish, scales, things on the beach to wear and carry. Others may make their own accessories. Not all Makoatls collect things, however, and can be found with nothing at all.

If you own a baby mako, how long would you have to wait to age them to the next stage?
Each stage requires two (2) months. From the moment you own the baby, you must wait two months to advance it to teen. You must wait another two months to advance a teen into adult.
What type of noses do Makoatls have?
Their nose is similar to a bunny's nose.
Will there ever be chances for non staff to get customs? An event or contest?
Yes. Please do not ask me. I will hand them out to whomever I want to or offer them in contests.
