Name You'd Choose for It: Shikoba (shee-koh-baa) It's a Native American name that means "feather"
My fursona's name is Calypso, so I felt it would be appropriate to change the name x]
Gender: Female
Reason You Want It: Because she's really pretty and I love her the simplicity of her design, and the necklace she wears around her neck. She looks so spirited and adventurous, but also extremely kind and loving.
History/Background/Other: Shikoba flew through the sky, her golden wings stretching joyously beneath the golden sun. Her friends flew beside her, and the three of them whinnied and neighed, joyous with the freedom they had up in the air. These horses belonged to a herd of Pegasus' that lived above the clouds, and due to the laws of the herd, they weren't allowed on the ground below, and could only land on the highest mountain tops that rose far from the valley of horses down below.
As her friends began to fly back to the waterfall on the main mountain top, Shikoba swerved away, calling out, "I have to go check something, I'll see you guys soon though, don't worry!" This winged horse had a huge secret, and she stayed hovering in the air until her friends were out of sight. Then, suddenly, Shikoba dived down towards the earth, shooting quickly through the clouds until she was level with some of the birds of prey above the Wymishk valley, where the regular horses were. It took only a moment to find the herd, but once she had located it, a grin played on her face, and the mare delicately lowered herself as close as she dared, hovering out of sight while she quietly observed the horses.
Shikoba had done this countless times before, knowing that she wouldn't get caught as long as she kept a fair distance between her and the non-winged beasts. The others of her Pegasus herd always claimed that because they didn't have wings, the regular horses were stupider and less emotionless, having to result to running across the ground instead of soaring through the skies. Deep in her heart, Shikoba knew this was wrong though, since the regular horses seemed to enjoy their lives so much more than the life of the Pegasus'. To roll in the grass, to have to worry about the rain in your face, and to use the muscles in your legs to race across the land... That's what Shikoba wanted more than anything. When she saw those horses in the valley, she understood that you didn't need to be feathered, that you didn't need to fly in order to find happiness.
She was about to fly back, when she saw that the whole herd of horses had spotted her, and they were looking at her with such interest, and such welcoming eyes, that Shikoba couldn't help but stay suspended in the air, holding her breath as her heart pounded in her chest. What could possibly happen now?
A small foal, who had been hiding beneath his mother's legs took wobbly steps towards the Pegasus, and soon, it was standing beneath her, looking up with wide, curious eyes. The rest of the herd was standing still, and they too, were watching Shikoba, to see what she would do next.
The Pegasus felt as though she had lost control of her body, she was so drawn to these earth-dwelling horses. Slowly, she lowered herself to the ground, her large, flapping wings sending small ripples of air across the manes and tails of the ground herd. It wasn't long before her back hooves hit the ground with a "thump" and in that instant, Shikoba made the decision of a life-time, as she lowered her front half, and stood for the first time ever on the rolling green grass. Instinctively closing her eyes, the mare felt herself lifted from the ground once again, but she had never experienced something like this during flight. Sighing, all Shikoba felt was a tingling in her shoulders before feeling her hooves touch the already familiar ground again.
Shikoba slowly opened her eyes, and immediately knew that something was wrong. Turning this way and that, the re-born horse discovered that she didn't have wings anymore, and that she would be stuck to the ground forever. Tears rolled down her face as she realized all that she had lost and gained.
Suddenly though, a strong breeze blew by, and the horse herd snorted and pranced in delight, before rushing out across the land, the foal closet to Shikoba waited a moment, before rushing off after the herd. Deciding she wouldn't waste another minute, the horse bucked and reared before galloping after the others, appreciating the wind in her face and the sweat on her back. As she ran, Shikoba noticed an object floating in the air, and it was coming straight towards her. She skidded to a stop, wondering what it was, when she recognized the red and gold feathers that were typical to those of her flying family. They were attached to a string, and Shikoba waited for the necklace to land around her neck and then she raced after the horses, realizing that this is the life she was meant to have. To many, the feathers around her neck would look like ordinary leaves, but as long as Shikoba remembered what they were, and as long as she remembered her old life, everything would work out for the best.
Shikoba slept under the stars that night, looking up at the heavens, She could've sworn that she saw winged figures watching her, and even then, the horse didn't regret a single thing.
I understand that by adopting Shikoba I take full responsibility for her.((Also, I don't have a character thread yet, but if I'm able to get her, then I will most definitely make one
