Samira sighed and stepped out of the warm den into the cold snowy night. "Have to go can't stay long or the two-legged ones will find me. It shouldn't be snowing on the 1st of but yet another freezing night," she muttered under her breath and shivered as her paw collided with the white snow. Snow always seemed to awe her. The beautiful white flakes that flew down gracefully. "Not one is alike," she thought as she trotted through snow drifts and tried to warm her body up. Snow stucked to her striped red. However in her prancing and dancing she accidentally stepped in a hole and fell down into the snow. "So clumsy", she said shaking her green fur and blushing. Thank goodness no one saw that! She stared at her breathe fogging into the air and knew she needed to get to shelter before she froze or her beautiful red orb froze and broke. Sprinting through the snow she finally came upon a lone abandoned cottage in the woods.
Taking a deep breath she stepped up into it then accidentally tripped on the floor board once again. Flicking her ear in annoyance she stepped inside and out of the cold. It was obviously abandoned. The floor and old broken furniture was covered in cobwebs and dust. "I already miss that cave with the cold rough gravel and freaky spiders." she said out loud her voice echoing through the house. She wandered around bumping into chairs and other pieces of seemingly random furniture positioned around the cottage. She turned a corner only to find that her shiny dark red tail was stuck around the edge of a table. She narrowed her eyes and tugged more. It popped free but Samira went flying and got her horns stuck in the wall. She giggled and finally shook her head free. "I'm such a klutz!" she laughed and her body shook from the effort. But first I need to warm up. She headed over to the thing two-legged ones called a "couch". It was soft but a little dusty and Samira sneezed before snuggling down. Her tail nudged something on the stand next to her and she looked at it through one eye. It was a book. The cover was old and worn but you could vaguely make out gold lettering. Samira was now very interested. She was good at two-legged reading. She had learned a few days ago at a cold village. A little girl had told her the alphabet and everything was fairly easy to read for Samira but then again she was a very good learner and was good at figuring things out. She carefully swept the book closer to her with her tail. The book title read "The Story of Christmas". She was instantly awake now. She opened the first page and quickly read
Breathlessly she flipped through other pages. She read about Kris Kringle and how he would bring presents to all the nice children in the world. She read about his list and how if you were naughty you did't get any presents, she read that he made a list and checked it twice, she read about his magic reindeer Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blixen, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. She read how Rudolph would light the sky and guide the sleigh if the sky was too foggy. She read about Santa's red and white hat vest and pants. She read about his long white beard and Mrs. Claus. She read that Christmas was on December 25th. She finally finished the book and closed it with disappointing huff. She sighed and tucked her paws under her tail and thinking of Santa Claus she closed her eyes with one last huff.
Samira opened one eye to find the sun shining through the window. Morning. Groggily she blinked the sleep from her eyes and stretched her stiff muscles. I wish I could be Santa. I wish I could bring joy to every kit around the world. Then "Light bulb!" "Yes!!!!!" she screeched! "I will!" she jumped off the couch with new strength. She would travel to other planets for gifts! The more she thought about it the more of the plan took shape. In her excitement she accidentally knocked the book off the stand and it hit the floor with a thud and a cloud of dust. She jumped down and took the book in her mouth, careful of the pages and of the crisp old cover. "First I need to look the part." She said slightly muffled by the book. She looked around the cottage. The first room was a faded sunflower yellow. Boxes littered the floor and she automatically jumped into one spraying dust and knocking over other boxes. Sheepishly she disappeared into the box. Dolls, more toys, blankets... AHA triumphantly she pulled out a small red cloak. "It probably was once made for a doll, " she thought, "perfect size for me!" she triumphantly swung the red cloak around her furry green shoulders and admired herself in the cracked mirror nailed to the wall.
She looked at herself and realized her horns reminded her of candy canes, like the ones Santa would give the kids in their stockings. My green fur matched nicely with the bright red of the cloak and her tail and orb matched her horns. My brown hair which I had cursed over and over again was bright and shiny. "This is who I'm supposed to be!" she thought happily. Not done yet though.
She stepped out of the box and carefully padded across the floor trying not to knock anything over. Alas she thought she had made it out the door but at the last moment nudged the door swinging it shut witha loud bang and knocking over the mirror on the wall. It fell in slow motion. Then it the floor and shattered into thousands of pieces. Samira squeaked in alarm and raced to the next room. This room was much bigger and was a smudged blue. Sunlight was shining through a single window on top of the bed. There was nothing in it. Turning and backing out the door she trotted over to one across the hallway. This was just a bathroom. Feeling discouraged she saw one more room and hoped there was something in it. Opening the door with swift paw peeked inside. Nothing. I hung my head and sniffed around. What was that! I smelled something sharp. Taking a double take I finally spotted something in the corner. It looked like a candy cane but round and orange. It had a white string threading through it and she decided she could use it. Taking the candy in her paw she swung it over her neck and felt it fall into place. It felt natural and Samira couldn't remember when she hadn't worn it. Looking at the plant next to it she breathed in the deep smell and knew she had to use it. On her cloak? No. In her hair? No. Her orb? YES! She gently took a few leaves and fastened them on her orb with a small pearl hiding behind the plant. Done. She gently turned and accidentally knocked down the pot containing the plant. Soil covered the floor and Samira groaned but was soon smiling. Up righting the plant she trotted out of the room feeling happier than she had ever.
Springing out of the cottage she searched around the wood for a quiet place to take to the skies. Usually other Kits couldn't make it back into space because of earth's strong atmosphere but Samira could. Maybe because she had horns or something she didn't know. She however had always loved earth and never though about leaving it. Sighing she hovered above the ground before taking off into the skies. She only had a month but Samira knew she could do this.
One Month Later
Carrying her giant bag of treasures, Samira smiled and laughed in anticipation of the descend to earth. She had been all over the galaxy, finding special and exotic gifts for other kits. She had so many items! She hoped she didn't have TOO much. Taking the bag in her mouth she began the incline to earth. She had missed the blue sky and ground so much! Not looking where she was going Samira was hurtling towards earth too fast! The bag was slipping from her jaws and Samira tried holding on but it was no use, the bag went flying and she landed on earth but her bag of gifts was gone! Wait, the bag was in the pine tree over there, but just the bag. Samira could have cried or screamed or sobbed but she didn't. She figured it was going to be fun getting the gifts back! With that happy though Samira floated towards the tree, after being whacked in the face with a few pine tree branches, and grabbed the bag. Ready or not, here I come!
