Okay, but I'm going to have to disagree and agree with this.
First off, if the images are on google, they are out there for the public's use apparently and we should have a right to use them. I say this because usually it's the owner of the art that puts it on google, and they need to understand that the whole world can view it and a lot of people are going to use it. If the owner of the art didn't put it up, then they should speak with who ever put it up and ask them to remove it.Yes, that is possible. Simple as that.
If they aren't though, then yeah I would consider it art theft.

Well, most of the time.. no, the artist does not put their images on google.
First reason: most of the images found on google, are not hosted on google itself, they're hosted on several image hosting sites like tinypic or photobucket.
Second: most images appear in more than one of those image hosting websites, and with other completely different images next to them. So, unless the artist in question is really weird and is signing up in lots of websites like this and uploading his/her art and other artists' art as well.... I guess the answer is simple.

So, the most reasonable explanation is that other people are gathering art that they like, from various artists, and uploading them on their own photobucket/tinypic/whatever website account. Even though the most part doesn't claim that the art is theirs, it's still not right to take art that is not yours and uploading it on your personal account, and it's considered art theft, intencional or not.

But that's not the worst part. The worst is that when people search images on google, they do so by writting some keywords. "black winged wolf" for example. So, any pictures tagged with "black", "winged" and "wolf" will appear. Most of the pics are up on different servers, websites and the like. And eventually, you'll come across a pic you like, that other person liked, and take it. That's as bad as the what the person that you're getting the file from has done. Because most of the time you'll choose an image from one of those servers, from the people who stole it in the first place.

So, my point is, that is stealing anyway, since you didn't draw it.

No one said it wasn't possible. It certainly is possible to talk to a person who stole your art and ask him/her to remove it from their website. The problem is, most of them will use it anyway. Why? Because they just don't care. That's the truth.

I think there should be a rule about image using in roleplays.

Most people I see roleplaying do so with chars that are not their own to begin with. I see lots of chars from DA being used, most probably, without permission.

Heck, I've seen my own chars being used on another site. Not this one though. But the artists over at DA that know nothing about this site are in the same position I was in when I discovered my art.. my personnal character being used in some roleplay.

I just don't think that's right.

There are hundereds of free linearts that can be used to make up a simple ref sheet for you own char. There's no need to steal other's.

Secondly, if the original is on any other site that you upload your pictures to, the uploader should understand that they are making it public and people might use it in some way shape or form. If the uploader doesn't want that, then they shouldn't have made it public in the first place.

Thirdly, the person using the picture is NOT claiming the image as their own! They are just using the looks for a role play. I mean come on people, if they physically say that they drew and colored it and they didn't, then yes it's art theft! But, out of ALL the RPs I've seen, I haven't seen one person do that. -.-

Finally, if it is a real life picture, the user isn't stealing it. They are simply using it, as I said above. And, like I said above too, if the user is physically saying that they themselves took the picture and they did not, that can be considered art theft. If they don't say that, then it isn't.

Yeah, you're not claiming it as your own, but you're using a character another peson as created to develop a story with it and you're ok with it?... I mean.. come on.

I'm not here to start a fight or flame anyone, but saying that "no one else is doing it" doesn't make it right either. I mean, if everyone throws garbage on the ground, does that mean you're suposed to do the same? No, you act by what you think it's right. And the right thing to do here is fill in a lineart and come up with a unique charater yourself.

Personally I would be okay with it because if one persona got to it and said that they made it themselves, other people would start finding it and figure out that the other person really didn't draw it and the others would report that person.

That's what I meant before, sorry if it wasn't clear ^^ But I have seen it, they are just the minority. Which is kinda sad.

I didn't quite get what you said in the first paragraph, but I still don't think it's fine to develop a story about another person's char...

I found my char Kirous being used in 2 RPs now (not here on CS). And I didn't like it. :C It had nothing to do with him and all... Hm.

Anyway, I think I made my point and you made your too, so there's no need to keep spaming this thread with this issue.
