History/Background/Other:Dog fights - Dog fighting is an illegal practice in which two dogs, usually of a Pit Bull breed, are put into an enclosed area for the purpose of attacking and quite frequently, killing each other. Spectators bet on which dog will win. On average, fights last about one hour, but sometimes last two hours or longer. The fight does not end until one of the dogs is no longer able or willing to continue fighting. Dog fights usually end in serious injury or death for one or both dogs involved. (Definition from here.) That's the definition of dog fights. What that doesn't tell you is how the victims feel. They don't want to fight. They just want to have a loving family, who pets them, and gives the treats. They don't want to kill. The just want to be loved. How do I know this? Well, I have some experience. Oh, how rude, I forgot you didn't know who I was. Hi there, I'm Sorrel and this is my story.
Several years ago.I cowered in my cage. I hate this place. I looked away as a dog hit the dust. I hate this part. The other dog finished him. I felt nauseous. The crowed roared.
How can they like this? I thought.
How can I see THAT and cheer? Humans are idiots sometimes. I shrank back in my cage as the "winner" walked in and got a steak and a pat on the back. "Shrimp. You're up." The owner of us called to me. I'm the smallest one here. The only girl, and I'm blind in one eye. The owner is a big, burly man. He hits us with stuff. I'm scared of him. "Heh. Shrimps toast." A couple of the other dogs laughed and some shot me looks of sympathy. I trudged out as the owner opened the door. He picked me up and said "Listen' here, Shrimp. DO NOT LOSE. Now, go win me some cash." He put me down and I walked into the arena. The crowd took one look at me and burst out laughing. Their was one girl in the audience who looked like she was 18. She had short black, spiky hair, and startling green eyes. I turned to see who I'd be facing.
Oh my gosh... I thought. I kept looking up and up and up until I saw his face. A Great- Dane. Great. I was toast. "Hey there sugar." He snarled at me. I backed up. He laughed. I saw his teeth her yellow and red. I backed up into a wall. He laughed again. The bell rang. He charged at me. The next few seconds were a blur. I just remember I didn't want to die. Next thing I knew, he was bleeding, and I was planted on top of him, my teeth and his throat. The crowd was silent. The cigar feel out of the owner's mouth. the girl though, didn't show any expression. I got off the dog. "W-w-what? Y-you're not g-going to k-kill me?" he stuttered. "No. Nobody's that heartless." I said. The girl smiled. I walked up to the door and waited for it to open. When it did, I walked in. The other dogs stared at me. I walked to my cage and sat down. The owner walked up and gave me a steak. Then he said "Next time, kill the dog." I growled and he backed away. The owner put me in a few more fights. Each time it was like a re-run. I didn't kill anybody. The girl was always there. But now, every one was afraid of me. The dogs didn't talk to me, but shot me looks. And I was miserable. I wanted to run away. One night, I heard the owner arguing with some one. "I don't care who you -" The person cut him off, but I couldn't hear them speak. "But -" "Fine." A moment later, the owner walked in with some one I knew. The girl. She had pale skin, and she was wearing a black dress with black sneakers. She had a wolf with her. The wolf was white with gray spots, gold eyes, a moon necklace, and gold band around her tail at the bottom, and around all her paws. The wolf was frowning. The owner started to protest about something. But the girl shot him a look that cut him off. How odd. She was much little smaller than most 18 year-olds. The owner opened his mouth again and the wolf pulled her lip over her white teeth and did a snarl that had me shaking in my cage. The owner shut his mouth quickly. The girl walked over to my cage and opened the door. She smelled good, like spices. "Hi there!" She said, smiling. "I'm your new owner!" I stared at her. She would probably put me in dog fights. I started shaking. She had scary wolfs, and she had more power than the owner. I was scared of her. She picked me up and started petting me. She walked past the owner. She whirled around at the door. "Oh, yeah, what's her name?" She asked. "Uh...D-6." He answered. "You don't give them names?" She asked, her voice seething with disappointment. "No matter, I call you.. Sorrel." I liked that name. I wagged my tail She laughed. The other wolf took one last look at the owner and snarled again then followed the girl out. It was a cool night. She set me down on the other wolf's back. The wolf, kept looking forward, not smiling. "Oh, sorry, you don't know Moon. Sorrel, this is Moon, my guard." I said hello, but Moon didn't respond. "Yeah, she's not very friendly, but she's great once you get to know her." The girl whispered in my ear. I nodded. At last we arrived in front of a house. The girl opened the gate and Moon walked in. She shut it behind us. We walked into the house. It was bigger than it looked on the outside. The front room was scattered with things. "Welcome to your new home. Oh, I forgot to introduce my self. I'm Nuky." The girl said, patting my head. I slid off Moon's back, and she walked away, into another room. "You must be hungry." Nuky said and she took me to the kitchen. She got me a steak. It was really good. She took me up-stairs to hallway with tons of doors. One door said "Shimmer." Another said "Moon." They all said different names. She took me to one at the end of the hallway that said "Sorrel". "This is your room." Nuky said and she opened the door. The walls were pale yellow with lavender plant splotches every where. The carpet was light pink. The dog bed was light blue with light green polka-dots. I loved the room. "I know it's not much now, but later you can customize it." Nuky said. I went to the bed and curled up. It was so soft. I got up and ran over to Nuky and licked her face. She laughed and petted me. I like it here.
Several years later...Now, you've learned about how I got rescued by Nuky. I met all her friends. They like me and I like them. Now, when she rescues some one else, sometimes I come with her. This...is....AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bye!
