What are Crystal Keepers?:

A Crystal Keeper is a feline type of animal. Their most distinctive traits are that they have saber-like teeth, long tail and two horns on top of their head with the crystal floating in between. No one knows why they have this.
Each Crystal Keeper has their own coat color and patterns, like a snowflake, none are identical even if some look alike. Their base coat is almost always a natural color that seams to resemble nature but their markings on the other hand can be many different things from stripes like a tiger, rosettes like a jaguar to lines and dots like a two year old scribbled on their coat.
A Crystal Keeper is not a huge animal, only around the size of a Lynx. (Lynx Rufus)
The Crystal Keepers scientific name comes from Latin, Felis meaning cat and Lapillus meaning jewel, Gem.

I was bored one day and was messing around in Paint, just scribbling and my cat was sitting by me watching the cursor and I was like "You know what" and doodled a cat face, then randomly added big teeth and thought horns would look cool so added those, and then grew the Crystal Keepers. (Were called Gem Keepers when I started the forum, changed like and hour later x3)
(I created these in paint using the track pad on my laptop and my imagination, I have transferred to photoshop to take advantage of layers :D)

Adopting Crystal Keepers are free but Breeding and Customs are not!

Customs, Simple enough right? Well for me my system is. Its different from others. I wont make customs based off of one of your characters and/or fursona. It has to be completely new.


I customs design is NEVER final as soon as it is finished. If there is something you do not like or want changed. That can be done!

Step 1; Mutations

Just check the boxes or delete the ones you dont want in the form. There are many possiblities and more mutations will soon be released!

Current Mutations: Normal Horns or Ram horns, Normal Tail or Bob tail, 1 or 2 Crystals, Wings(Wings are currently unavailable because there are way to many with wings. Now wings are only available to staff or during events)

Step 2; Markings

Just tell me what kind of markings you would like. Anything from stripes to rosettes. Be specific though on where you want the markings! You may use images of animals or existing Crystal Keepers as examples. Remember, I dont want a drawn out example; Im testing out my skills by description!

Step 3; Colors

Ah fun!~ I have two links you could use to help you pick out colors. Try though to keep the Crystal Keepers at a natural color for the base, markings could be colorful though.
The first link is a quick way to pick colors, The second is more complicated and uses a color box almost the same as oekaki.

In the form it may say: Color of the markings. I want you to give me a nice description on the coloring. It doesnt have to be "black" You could say "The stripes start out black but fade to a dark grey toward the side of the body"

To breed a Crystal Keeper you need TWO BREEDING GEMS, one for each parent!
Breeding Crystal Keepers is a long process.
The bred Crystal Keepers Pair will produce 3 kits that will resemble both parents.

One Person owns Both Parents| Gets Two kits of their choice and one goes up for adoption.
Parents has separate owners | Each person gets 1 kit of their choice. The last goes up for adoption.

If one owner doesn't want a kit, the other still only gets 1

When Breeding I will use a method involving a basic punnet square. (But I use differently!) Each crystal keeper has a set of traits that are resessive and dominant.
Heres a list of whats dominant and whats recessive.
Dominant:

Normal Horns
Normal Tail
One Crystal

Resessive:

Bob Tail
Ram Horns
Two Crystals.

Example: Someone wanted their CK (A) Breed. This one is a Gen 1 and has Ram Horns. Its Partner (B) has normal horns but is a generation 2 and its father had ram horns.

Why do CK's have a Crystal and why is it floating between their horns?

It is unknown as to why they have a crystal and why it is floating. All we know is that once they are born, theres like a tiny pebble floating close to the head of the youngster. As the Keeper, and its horns, grow, the pebble rises and also forms into more of a crystal.
Many believe the horns have some sort a magnetic force that keeps the crystal floating between their horns. Scientists even found traces of an odd sort of a magnetic pull, yet it doesn't attract other metals like magnets do.
A CRYSTAL KEEPERS' CRYSTAL IS NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH GEMS IN THE SHOP!

How big are they?

Whats on their diet?

Crystal Keepers are carnivores. They eat anything from mice to deer. Although many prefer rabbit or hares. Many that made their home nearby streams and rivers are able to catch fish. Deer is a rare catch because crystal keepers are smart enough to know deer can be dangerous.
Keepers always eat as much of their meal as they can, there's no telling when their next meal will be. If they caught something large, such as a deer, they just eat as much as they can and leave whats left.
Crystal Keepers will never eat from the carcass of a dead animal, unless of course they are starving. They always try to catch a fresh meal.
They will almost never bring a kill back to their den, because it could attract other predators, When they do bring food to their den, its to feed their kit or mates, but whats left they dispose of away from their den.

Are they intelligent?

Yes, Crystal Keepers are very intelligent. They have been known to out smart people which is one reason why they remained undiscovered for a long time. Due to their intelligence they know whats safe and whats not, what to eat, what not to eat, whats harmless and whats dangerous. Of course the kits don't know any better just as a human baby would.
Each also seen to know other things based on the environment they live in, such as a CK that lives near a river will know how to catch fish, compared to one that may live in a drier place, will know places to find food.

How well can they move? (climb, run, swim)

It all depends where they live and what skills they've picked up in their life time. One that lived in a forest will be graceful climbers and may be fast, one that lives on a mountain may be faster climbers. And so on.
But if you want an average running speed, that would be around one of a Bobcat.
Swimming also depends on where they live and if they have been around water for awhile.
Crystal Keepers are not clumsy animals! They actually have great balance!

Do they live in clans, tribes or packs?

They do, in a way, but it is a complex system. There is one Keeper who is like the alpha, king, or queen.
They do not live together though. Each find their own den away, some can be miles apart, for their home. Almost like how people who live in rural areas. Once, sometimes twice, a month they gather to the king/queen keeper. We really dont know what goes on at this time though.
Although the scientist who managed to observe the meeting described it almost as if they are having a festival or family gathering.

Do Crystal Keepers mate for life?

They will try too. If their mate died/disappeared some find new mates. Some dont.

Do CKs wear items?

No. When anyone tried giving them items, they found a way to take them off.

Do CKs have magical powers?

Nope

Can their horns/crystal be removed/replaced/changed?

No, they are permanent.

Topic/Form/Other Questions:

Do we have to write a story for our forms? Can I have magic in the stories?

Its mainly optional, except for the weeks I say to write one. No there can be no magic in the stories, They live on earth. Although a CK can believe there magic even when there is none.

Can I gift my CK to someone else? What about trade?

No you cant. No trading either!

I dont want my CK, what do I do?

Let me know, and ill put him/her up for adoption again. If its a custom that you had for a while and bred, then you decide to either put it up for adoption, or say it died.

I dont understand how breeding works...

You really dont have to, I do. But if your trying to get a certin horn type then you do. Know that Normal horns/tail and one crystal is a dominant trait, which means if you breed a CK with one that has recessive traits, you have little chance of getting a CK with a recessive traits. If a CK has hidden recessive traits, since its parents had recessive traits, then you may have a better change or a surprise mutation. (Depending on the other parent.)

Then why arnt they in Oekaki?
