Background:
Creation. Your purpose in life. Never stray.
Deep within the galaxies, the mewling of a new spyhx could be heard. The parents sat proudly, giving their new son warmth between them. The territory of stars was far from earth, near Jupiter.
"His name will be Odin." the father proclaimed proudly, after much thought and brainstorming with his mate.
"It's perfect." she purred, rubbing her face against his neck affectionately. The white kit finally finished mewling and looked up at his parents with baby blue eyes.
"I'll teach him all that I know." his father said in his deep, authoritative voice. "He will be the greatest warrior that ever lurked these skies..."
A year later...
Odin's legs ached as he tried to pump them harder. His heart pounded in his chest as he rocketed across the galaxy sky. Sweat caked his fur as his stinging breaths escaped his lungs. No escape. He skidded to a halt as he realized he had reached one of Jupiter's moons. Without thinking, he threw himself into one of the craters and huddled inside. Peering out, all he could see was the black, galaxy sky. I think I escaped... The cold stone pressed against his damp fur as his panicked gaze swept here and there, looking for his foe. His heart seemed to stop as he felt something grab his scruff.
"No! No!" he wailed attempting to twist himself out of his captors grip. He felt himself be released and he plopped to the moon. Looking up, he saw his father.
"Father... I..." he began, standing up.
"No." His father growled, glaring at him. Odin's ears sagged and his tail drooped. His father heaved a sigh and sat down, to Odin's relief. "Odin..." he shook his head disappointedly.
"Father, I... I can't do it." Odin said, shaking his head and sitting down.
"Odin, if I wasn't here to stop that Star Breaker, what would have happened?" His father growled.
"My territory... would have been... destroyed..." Odin answered sadly. His father shook his head and put his paw on Odin's back.
"With more training, I'm sure you'll become a great warrior like me..." he encouraged.
"Really, Father?" Odin looked up hopefully, his heart beating a little bit more brightly.
"Our purpose in life, as spyhx are to protect our territory and its stars. The planets, the moons, even the sun on occasion. We are close to the gods." His father looked further into the galaxy, Odin turned his eyes to where his father's lay. On the Northern Star. Odin had tried to make a shooting star out of that one, his mother explained that he should never touch that star. "It's your purpose. You have no where else to turn, no other path to take. Accept your destiny, Odin, train hard. When you're older, your purpose will shine forth." Odin's eyes sparkled as he pictured his own territory. Defeating all the beasts that threatened his stars and moons.
"Yes, Father!" Odin jumped up, "I'm ready to train more!" His father got to his paws, laughing,
"Fine! If you can catch me, I'll teach you a new battle move!" he exclaimed, beginning to leap away.
"I'll catch you, Father!" Odin yowled, pelting after him.
About 400 years later.
We are solitary, but you left too soon...
Odin lay next to his mother, enjoying the pleasant night. Yesterday, it had rained, clouding up their precious stars, though the clouds had cleared and the stars sparkled dazzlingly. His father was out patrolling the territory. By now, Odin had grown to a formidable height, almost as big as his father now. Most of his deep, blue mane had grown in, being 401, it was only 99 years until he became a fully developed and accepted spyhx. Although, suddenly, a tingling feeling started in his paws. Shuddering, Odin threw himself to his paws and fluffed out his fur.
"What?" his mother whispered. She had never been as sensitive to disturbances as Odin or his father. It was a great trait that Odin had obtained.
"I... I feel... something." Odin growled, the tingling moving up his arms and into his chest. His whole body began to quiver as his keen eyes swept the star plains. An ear-splitting roar of pain echoed across the star-studded skies.
"Father!" Odin cried, his heart twisting with pain. Bunching his muscles, Odin sprang away, following the sounds of snarling and growling. His mother was left behind, dumbfounded. Finally, Odin was able to pinpoint the source of the sound. The ground seemed to disappear below him and the stars spun. A huge, black hole monster was looming above his father who lay injured on his side. Black hole monsters were pitch black, ghostly figures without eyes. Instead, they had huge mouths filled with about a hundred teeth. They fed on stars and fought spyhx ruthlessly. Apparently his father had been trying to defend their territory. "Leave my father alone!" Odin snarled, a fire blazing inside of his heart. The black hole monster looked as though it had already taken a beating from his father, so Odin was sure he could take it down the rest of the way. Leaping up, Odin fastened his claws into its fleshy neck, his talons sinking in satisfyingly. The black hole beast hissed, thrashing its head in every direction, trying to shake Odin off of it. It hurt Odin's head and claws, but he refused to let go. With a huge jerk, it threw Odin off, but Odin took a huge chunk out of it. He landed harshly, his side throbbing as he struggled back to his paws. Teeth bared, Odin growled, the huge beast was bleeding black goo, but still looked like it had some fight in it. Tightening his muscles, Odin hurled himself forward, headbutting the beast in the gut. Though, the beast had already stricken a blow on Odin, raking its talons down Odin's back. He was too numb with rage to feel it, however. The beast was hurled backwards, Odin leaped forward and slashed the beast's face for good measure. He stood there, his sides heaving and his breath rasping roughly in his throat. Blood poured from the wound on his back and his muscles ached. His heart pounded surprisingly as he remembered why he had come. Heart pounding in his ears, he ran over to his father who lay motionless. Upon putting his paw pad on his father, he felt that he was cold.
"F-Father..." Odin stuttered, tears burning in his eyes, his throat closing up sorely with sadness. "Father... Father get up!" Odin cried, pawing at his flank. "FATHER, NO!" Odin screamed, collapsing, his body racked with sobs. His role model, his best friend, his father was dead.
Fallen; a broken soul, but a new spirit.
Odin grew up a fine lion, though quieted down a great deal. He no longer wanted to play or do normal cub activities. All he wanted to do was train, prepare and study. He became fully accepted and earned his signature cuff. He then settled in a star territory very close to the Earth's moon. He could gaze upon Earth and his wonders, the spyhx that protected this territory had apparently passed away. Odin found that this was a peaceful territory, he rarely ever fought except for the occasional pest.
One night, he lay dozing, watching over his vast territory of stars. It was a perfectly clear and cool night. He could see his breath faintly in front of him as he breathed. Everything felt... frosty. The stars frosted the beautiful black nothingness of the galaxy. His breath lightly frosted the air every time he took a breath. Frost was even beginning to gather on the tips of his claws. He enjoyed cold nights, it was probably winter down on Earth. It was as peaceful as usual. Letting out a long, soft breath, Odin rested his chin on his paws. A familiar sensation hit Odin's paws, making his heart race. A black hole beast? Here? Now? Leaping to his paws, Odin's much more muscular and big body trembled. His muscles rippled valiantly under his snowy pelt. The beast hissed, Odin could see it a few yards away, it was making its way into Odin's territory. Odin's lips drew back in a snarl, his claws unsheathing immediately. Lurching forward, Odin didn't hesitate to sink his teeth into its black, rubbery flesh. It screeched in rage and grabbed Odin's back, tearing him off of itself. Odin clawed at the beast, but in vain, his claws just hit air. The beast was cackling, dangling Odin away from its body.
