Name you'll give it: Fönn; Icelandic for "snow drift".
Code: #935-F-SAR. (Alphabetically is ICE-F-SearchAndRescue.)
Gender: Female.
Reason you want it: I love the tracker dogs, and of course she'd be my first one. The glowing blue ones are my favorites <3 She'd get art and would be used in RPs, and would have a home in my character thread. I can't personally draw to save my own life (I hope these aren't judged off art >.>), but I can write and will have no problems coming up with stories for her, which will then be posted here or PM'd to you, if you'd like.
Other info: Fönn will be transferred to a base in Iceland; her handlers have designed large, battery-operated heated crates that remain in their vehicles. In the event that she reaches a core temperature below the safety level, she is taken back to these and will remain there until she is rejuvenated enough to return to her original position. Her assistance is most often used in tracking lost tourists or mountaineers ambushed by snowfalls. She interacts well with other animals, and often works with Icelandic horses and Bernese mountain dogs. Currently, she does not have much experience with locating criminals. She is playful yet well-behaved and intelligent, thus making her easily trainable and a valuable addition to the team.
She remains at the base at night, but due to her high levels of activity she has a designated room roughly half the size of the average gymnasium to stay in, and various handlers maintain eight-hour shifts daily to see to her exercise needs. Fönn is extremely valued, as she is the first tracker dog in her area and is something of a celebrity.
Her unit's SAR base maintain their own operations and have viable SAR personnel. The team sees Fönn as a partner, not an animal any one of them can claim to own, and treats her accordingly. It is very rare that she will be exposed to many criminal searches.
Personality: A dog of substantial attitude and stamina, her natural intelligence and comprehension has made her nearly infallible as a partner. While not loyal to one human in particular- making working with her easier on the team in general- she showed a strikingly attentive dedication to her training from a young age and seemed to devour her training in great strides. Though highly active, she maintains a generally laid-back personality and seems to have no qualms with newly-introduced handlers or animals, and has been seen touching noses curiously with the resident housecat at the station. Because she is a SAR-dog rather than your usual criminal tracker, Fönn accepts being touched by those she locates and will often stay near to them and bark to garner her handler's attention rather than leaving and coming back. She is not aggressive with those she comes across unless given specific commands, and has a high protective instinct. Fönn also excels at problem-solving. She prefers cooler temperatures in general, and when let into her outside run she spends the majority of her time simply flopping in the snow. It is difficult for her to reach her body's temperature limits when it comes to frigid temperatures, but recently her handlers have discovered they have to be just as wary of her body overheating. Her indoor enclosure is typically kept anywhere from fifty to sixty degrees, which seems to be on the warm side of comfortable for her.
Prior training: She is both a ground and aerial (that is, scents left in the air) of SAR dog, and thus was given extra training on even more thorough scent discrimination and trailing. She works systematically and rapidly, a token of her intelligence, and has the ability to work all areas, including those that are not downwind. Her trainability, stoicism, and physical fleetness all granted her great finesse in this field of work, and they were also useful in her Schutzhund training that began as a puppy. Fönn also went through rigorous obedience courses, and has thus learned free heeling and long-range detection.
When she discovers a human scent, she will thrust her head into the snow in an attempt to discover if the scent strengthens. If it does not, she immediately begins working outwards. If it does, she digs until the victim is located.
