Frost Tracker

Postby DoctorDraca » Fri Aug 20, 2010 5:14 am

This Tracker Dog can tolerate extremely cold temperatures due to the markings on its back. They keep the dog warm as long as it moves. If it were to stand still, the system would stop working and it might freeze to death. The more it moves, the brighter the markings glow, once they stop glowing, the dog needs to be transferred to a warm place immediately. The nose, inner ears and tongue also glow slightly, as smaller heating systems are active there, to keep them from freezing. The Tracker is naturally active and doesn't stand still, even in the safety of a warm police station or anything similar.

Name you'll give it: Natalia ( Latin name derived from (dies) natalis, meaning "birthday," or in Church Latin "Christmas day." In use by the Spanish.)
Gender: Female
Reason you want it: Well. I particularly like this dog because I can tolerate low temperatures. [strike]That reminds me when I was going to camp in six grade when I wore only two layers of shirt and one layer of pants. Some kids thought I was crazy because of that.
I am also naturally active like this tracker dog.
Other info: WIP
Month that was created: December

History:
Natalia's specialty region is somewhere cold like in the mountains, arctic and such. Ever since she was created, Natalia has been successful in every crime she was worked with. Sometimes she would get too cold and the cops would try to take her back. Instead she fought back and kept on going. The cops were successful once when it was -165° F. How did the cops manage? They got another three more tracker dogs to find her and bring her back. After she was well again, she was determined to finish the job.

Name you'll give it: Wyomi
Gender: Female
Reason you want it: This design is wonderful, the dogs characteristics are brilliant.
Other info:

Personality:
Wyomi is a very active and loyal tracker. When on patrol, this dog can never stop and always catches the crime. She is a very fun- loving dog, but takes her job seriously.

History: For it's whole life, this dog has been capturing vilians in extremly cold areas. The artic is one place where she is most known. The snow isn't an obsticle, but sometimes this dog has been too cold, forcing the cops to bring her to a warmer place. This has happened once, and it hadn't gone away for hours. The tracker nearly made it but is back on the job!
believe Jesus Christ is your savior and are not afraid to admit it, post this in your sigi.

Name you'll give it: Fönn; Icelandic for "snow drift".
Code: #935-F-SAR. (Alphabetically is ICE-F-SearchAndRescue.)
Gender: Female.
Reason you want it: I love the tracker dogs, and of course she'd be my first one. The glowing blue ones are my favorites <3 She'd get art and would be used in RPs, and would have a home in my character thread. I can't personally draw to save my own life (I hope these aren't judged off art >.>), but I can write and will have no problems coming up with stories for her, which will then be posted here or PM'd to you, if you'd like.

Other info: Fönn will be transferred to a base in Iceland; her handlers have designed large, battery-operated heated crates that remain in their vehicles. In the event that she reaches a core temperature below the safety level, she is taken back to these and will remain there until she is rejuvenated enough to return to her original position. Her assistance is most often used in tracking lost tourists or mountaineers ambushed by snowfalls. She interacts well with other animals, and often works with Icelandic horses and Bernese mountain dogs. Currently, she does not have much experience with locating criminals. She is playful yet well-behaved and intelligent, thus making her easily trainable and a valuable addition to the team.
She remains at the base at night, but due to her high levels of activity she has a designated room roughly half the size of the average gymnasium to stay in, and various handlers maintain eight-hour shifts daily to see to her exercise needs. Fönn is extremely valued, as she is the first tracker dog in her area and is something of a celebrity.
Her unit's SAR base maintain their own operations and have viable SAR personnel. The team sees Fönn as a partner, not an animal any one of them can claim to own, and treats her accordingly. It is very rare that she will be exposed to many criminal searches.

Personality: A dog of substantial attitude and stamina, her natural intelligence and comprehension has made her nearly infallible as a partner. While not loyal to one human in particular- making working with her easier on the team in general- she showed a strikingly attentive dedication to her training from a young age and seemed to devour her training in great strides. Though highly active, she maintains a generally laid-back personality and seems to have no qualms with newly-introduced handlers or animals, and has been seen touching noses curiously with the resident housecat at the station. Because she is a SAR-dog rather than your usual criminal tracker, Fönn accepts being touched by those she locates and will often stay near to them and bark to garner her handler's attention rather than leaving and coming back. She is not aggressive with those she comes across unless given specific commands, and has a high protective instinct. Fönn also excels at problem-solving. She prefers cooler temperatures in general, and when let into her outside run she spends the majority of her time simply flopping in the snow. It is difficult for her to reach her body's temperature limits when it comes to frigid temperatures, but recently her handlers have discovered they have to be just as wary of her body overheating. Her indoor enclosure is typically kept anywhere from fifty to sixty degrees, which seems to be on the warm side of comfortable for her.

Prior training: She is both a ground and aerial (that is, scents left in the air) of SAR dog, and thus was given extra training on even more thorough scent discrimination and trailing. She works systematically and rapidly, a token of her intelligence, and has the ability to work all areas, including those that are not downwind. Her trainability, stoicism, and physical fleetness all granted her great finesse in this field of work, and they were also useful in her Schutzhund training that began as a puppy. Fönn also went through rigorous obedience courses, and has thus learned free heeling and long-range detection.
When she discovers a human scent, she will thrust her head into the snow in an attempt to discover if the scent strengthens. If it does not, she immediately begins working outwards. If it does, she digs until the victim is located.

Re: Frost Tracker

Postby kivr & fireflii » Fri Aug 20, 2010 12:23 pm

Name you'll give it: Moroz (frost in Russian)
Gender: M
Reason you want it: As I said in my last form, which unfortunately I didn't get, I've been recently looking for a character to adopt. One that was made on CS actually. I've gotten a few sketch requests to draw them, and I've begun to taken a liking to the species. It's unique, new, and at the same time, I can actually see it being real. I particularly like the design, it really stood out to me. The colors go well together, and the markings are fairly simple. The glow is an awesome effect too. :3 I don't plan on having too many characters to show on CS, so I'm sure he'll get lots of attention (possibly thinking of getting a "mascot" for my shop).
Other info: (If I "win" him, this is what I'll put for his biography in my character thread//which has yet to be made (he'll go in fursonas until then)

GENERAL
-this image will go here until I make a new reference (which will have his name)-
Alias;; Mor, Roz
Age;; 9 months
Species;; Tracker Dog
Alliance;; pet
Home;; St. Petersburg, Russia

PHYSICAL
Height;; 22 in
Weight;; 64 lbs
Accessories;; leather brown collar (no tag)
Appearance;; Moroz's physique is that of an average tracker dog. His limbs are long and thin which enables him to reach greater speeds with a higher level of stealth. All four limbs are equipped with two toes with sharp claws and hardened paw pads. This natural build greatly helps him Moroz's own job of tracking. Russia, being as far north as it is, has many times during training thrown him snowstorms, hail, raging rains that feel like frost on the skin. His pads help him trek through the snow and hardened (occasionally permafrost-ed) ground without a worry of injury.

True to a frost tracker dog, Moroz's natural coat allows him to easily blend in within his natural surroundings, with or without snow. The lower part of his body is a smooth snow-white color. The other main color is a dark, washed out blue, the markings being wavy along his body. This allows him to blend in with the snow to better stay hidden as he tracks those he follows. However, the glowing marks, ears, and tongue on his body also allow his own owner to relocate Mor in case he blends too well in the snow. Although the glow allows Mor to produce his own body heat which makes him compatible, valuable, and especially reliable in the northern region.

Like most other tracker dogs, Moroz's fur is fairly short, almost looking smooth. The occasional patch of fur can be found on the more thicker areas of the body such as his chest. However, being a frost tracker dog, Moroz hardly has any need for extra fur. He tolerates the cold, likes the warmth, but more fur could end up in over-heating himself in times of tracking in snow storms. Nonetheless, he can venture around the city, and in the future country-wide trails, without having to worry about obstacles such as temperature.

MENTAL
Likes;; Work, exploration, rules, knowing what to do, helping, mental and physical challenges, tests, fire (warmth), thunder (the concept), the unknown
Dislikes;; Laziness, boredom, cold temperatures (though he can withstand and tolerate), teaching, being underestimated, distractions
Strengths;; Stamina (including long-distance tracking) tracking, stealth, perseverance, loyalty, working, listening, observant, familiars (what keeps him going, namely his owner), intimidation, problem-solving, memory (more specifically with languages (English and Russian) and remembering trails)
Weaknesses;; Friendliness (chooses work above friends), socializing, familiars (would do anything for them, namely his owner), fighting, forgiving, impatient (excluding owner), size (light-boned, smaller) younger (less experienced), trusting (is trustworthy, but hard to gain his trust)
Goals/Hopes/Dreams;; To please his familiars, succeed in capturing all those he is ordered to track down, to live a happy life, increase his patience and fighting skills, to eventually go down in history
Fears;; Disappointing and losing his familiars (by death, accidental separation, or abandonment), losing an important trail, death before his job is done (whether it be job as a tracker, as a partner (not really a pet), or as a single job is unknown)
Personality;; Moroz isn't exactly a hard character to understand. The main thing to know about him is that he loves working, and aside from his family and owner, it is his life. Although, unfortunately, Mor doesn't actually track to save others lives, but rather he does it for the thrill. One can't exactly call him an “adrenaline junkie”. However, he does live for the exciting chase and the unknown. He's a bit snappy, but he's quite adventurous. He isn't afraid to explore the unknown and give himself new tests of knowledge and physique, which in some cases can make him a reliable dog, but at other times it can make him trouble. Most of the time, aside from following his instincts, Mor does his best to please Feliks, his owner (but to what he likes to think of: his master).

His attachments to people and animals alike are in great qualities. Without hesitation, he would end his life in order to protect theirs. However, although his trust is great, it is hard to find. Moroz is the kind of dog that doesn't easily get attached. He doesn't beat around the bush either. If he meets someone he doesn't like, he will make his thoughts well known and won't hesitate to growl a warning. It's not that he's nervous around strangers, but rather he avoids contact with unknown reactions as he has learned in his job that humans are completely unpredictable (or at least less so than natures patterns).

Because of his, Feliks takes great care in keeping Moroz wherever he goes. It both pleases the canine and also helps him socialize (not that he tries to). However, Mor is an incredibly loyal dog and would stay by Feliks' side nonetheless. As a result, he tolerates those that his master hangs around, not that he always approves. It comes with the job though. For that, he's at least a bit interested and curious. He is always eager to learn about humans. Mor figures, if he knows enough, maybe he could tolerate them a little more.

HISTORY
Sire;; Kamu (camo in Russian//part of the word kamuflyazh which means camouflage)
Dam;; Belyĭ (white in Russian)
Siblings;; Koro (short for korotyshka which means runt in Russian), Yav (dʹyavol = devil in Russian)
Owner;; Feliks (Russian form of Felix)
Moroz had a pretty average childhood as most pet canines. He was born and raised up by his sire and dam with 2 other siblings, to which he occasionally communicates with during his work. In order to best reach his talent, Moroz and his siblings were purebred from purebred frost tracker dogs. However, in no way did this mean Mor himself was a quality bred dog. He was reliable, but not professional. Mor and his family were raised up in the northern part of Russia, namely in a city called St. Petersburg. Rather than being bred and sold away, Mor and his siblings were bred purposely for tracking. Due to the increasing amount of various trafficking (drug, human, arms, robberies, theft, etc...), the times called for more talented trackers.

Thus Moroz's litter had been born. Their sire and dam were chosen and put together to best benefit the offspring. From his sire's side, Moroz had gained a part blueish coat in wavy patterns. This allowed him to better camouflage within the deep snows, but at the same time, did not allow him to completely disappear from his owner. From there he also gained a well-looked upon trait: the will to work. Aside from the stories and training, his father's temperament further pushed Moroz into having the instinct and will to work for and please his master. On his dam's side, he grew his main white coat which gave him the ability in the first place to blend in with his surroundings. From Belyĭ, his dam, he was given his softer personality. Although as a male he is naturally a bit snappy when it comes to completing his work, Moroz was given great stamina to take on long treks, along with tolerance when it came to the things he didn't enjoy (as if pleasing his master wasn't enough).

A few months into his growing, as most purpose-bred canines, he was taken from his family by his new master (to which he follows to this day), Feliks. Moroz, as purposely bred, was trained in a popular, well-known job for canines. He became a tracker to combat various purposes such as drug, human, and arms trafficking. Moroz is currently still in training, but from what has been shown to him, he has learned to be very wary and cautious of strangers. He has become extremely attatched to his new owner and now considers him part of his own family (aside from his sire, dam, and siblings). As with his own family, due to his job, Moroz luckily gets to communicate with them once in awhile during training or "partner tracking treks".

Name you'll give it: Lorcán (LUR-a-cawn); an Irish name meaning cruel or fierce.

Gender: Male

Reason you want it: Great design, great idea. I would love to write about this species (story, etc.) for practice. It's always nice to test yourself with something new and unusual to write about.

Other info:
Location: At the base of the Rockies in winter when assignments do not draw them elsewhere.

Background:
Lorcán's handler, Ciarán (KEE-a-rawn meaning black) is the son of an Irish immigrant. Trying to get away from his father (stuck in the old ways), he turned to the new age technology of police. He first learned about tracker dogs a year or two after their conception and was blown away by their success. His father forbid him to become a handler for the 'evil of man, freak of nature, worthless high-tech mutts'. In an act fueled by pure rebellion, Ciarán applied for the program. All that changed when he saw Lorcán. Touchy, and restless, always ready for what was next, not what was past. Their assignments would be to track and kill. No prisoners. Ill will and father forgotten, Ciarán and Lorcán forged a deep bond and set about their dark work to which their names so rightly fit. Black and Cruel.

If I am awarded this character, the stories would focus on Ciarán and Lorcán as a team, instead of just the tracker. I want to work on developing characters, tying in back stories, and adding a dark element to my writing.

Are we allowed to go for two tracker dogs at once?

Name you'll give it: Xyliana (or Xy/Xylia for short :3)
Gender: Female
Reason you want it: This is probably my 3rd time trying out for a tracker dog, but never managed to get one. Tracker dogs are the most unique and original species, they might look a bit scary at first, but Xy seems extremely cuddly. Xylia's design is unique, beautiful, and goes together very well. Her markings jumped out to me like she was sprinting off the page. Xyliana's designs are easily recognized even from afar, which makes her once again, unique and special. Xy will have her own little section in my Charries thread and possible art done of her. She will be taken care of there :3
Other info : Once again, a spot in my Charries thread, perhaps more art done of her, many people to adore her, and kept there safe and sound, not collecting any dust.
